Met Toby and Joanne after winning a MTM shirt at a Rugby event. While at the fitting for that, I was measured for an ordered a new dinner suit. Collected that 2 weeks ago and could not be happier. Great quality and excellent service all round. So happy in fact, that my wife and I have ordered some further items.

I recently used Hemingway Tailors to provide both mine and my best man’s suits for our wedding day in Santorini and they didn’t disappoint. The tailoring and attention to detail was of the highest standard and from first meet to final fitting the service and professionalism from both Toby and Joanne was exceptional making it a very pleasant experience.

I first met Toby about five years ago when he made a beautiful, bespoke overcoat in 100% cashmere for me. It was a lot of money for me at the time but it has been such a good investment. I never ever regretted it. It always looks good, I always feel good in it.

Since then I have bought other items, as has my husband and my good friend Christine, we have all been delighted. Today I went for lunch with another friend, in Durham, wearing top-to-toe Toby - shirt, trousers and the most gorgeous green cashmere jacket which I only brought home two days ago and, when I walked in, a lady said to me "I like your style". Perhaps I should have said "Actually it's Toby's style" but I was too thrilled with the compliment.

With Toby's help I am buying less but buying better. Further, these are investment pieces and meant to be worn and seen, not hidden in a cupboard and "kept for best".

He is friendly and welcoming and so knowledgeable, I'm so glad I found his details on the internet.

I've had a couple of suits made off Hemingway and I must tell you that they are simply superb! If you are looking for superb quality and exceptional personal service then this is the place to go.
The quality and attention to detail provided by Hemingway really does set them apart from others offering the same tailoring services.
So if you're in Leeds or travelling and need a suit then I strongly advise you pay Toby and co a visit at their offices.

Have gotten so many compliments in the short time I've had it! The material is lovely, myself and everyone who's felt it says how soft it is. The fit is comfortable, although I bought a size up as I'm currently bulking, it still fits me perfectly and works kinda well too as being something loose fit. Cannae complain about it; love how it jells with the rest of my fits. Corduroy trousers + Hemmingway = sheer delight

After searching on the Internet for what felt like forever I stumbled across Hemingway. I was seeking a white suit for my wedding and I had told Toby my idea of what I wanted it to look like and my god he delivered. The whole experience and how welcoming he was will be unforgettable and a lovely memory of my journey to my wedding day. Being in a same sex relationship I was a bit nervous about going to a tailor and me looking like a women in a man's suit but he just simply got it perfect. I’ve always viewed a suit as an investment which returns confidence. In the past I’ve purchased designer suits, but never opted for tailor-made. Toby was a highly recommended referral and now I see the difference an expert can make. To cut to the chase, I now own a beautifully tailored navy suit. It fits like a glove. Reason being, Toby’s meticulous approach and the time taken initially, listening to my requirements. The perfect cut, style and material has already received several compliments which feels good, and my wife is absolutely delighted with me for once. Ha!

I first met Toby and Joanne several Years ago when my son and I wanted suits for my daughters wedding. Since then several suits, jackets and shirts later I can honestly say the quality is always of the highest standard and the service so personal in everyway. Although retired I always look sharp and feel good when wearing one of Toby's creations.

I needed some new suits but wanted something classic looking. It is really difficult to find something elegant on the high-street that isn't just following the latest fads. Nothing ever seemed to fit properly either.

I contacted Toby and Joanne at Hemingway, and from my first suit two years ago I now have four, several shirts, and a pair of chinos on their way. Toby's experience, background, and manner lend themselves to trusting him and I have never been disappointed. I have expanded my taste thanks to Toby's advice, and now have a wardrobe for almost every occasion.

The suits themselves are wonderful. I look forward to putting them on; the cut, style, colours, material, everything makes you feel confident when you put one on and they're so comfortable you don't feel like you're wearing formal attire. If you have to go into lots of meetings, or conferences, or just formal events, there is something for me in having something that makes you feel comfortable and confident.

Customer service levels are of the highest standard; Toby and Joanne are both very friendly and welcoming, and immediately put you at ease. To the point I now look forward to visits. The whole experience is that good.

I was looking for a couple of ladies business suits but could find nothing in the shops which were of a decent quality and, after looking online and at Trustpilot reviews, I came across Toby, who seemed to have many excellent reviews (spoiler alert, this is another one !!).
I gave them a call and had a chat with Joanne, who was very helpful and friendly and she explained the process.
I was a little nervous before our appointment, I have never bought any suits like this before and didn't know what to expect but I needn't have worried, Toby was very welcoming, friendly, explained his background (he comes from a family tradition of tailors and is rightly proud of it) and he made me feel at ease.
We went through lots of garment books and he took the time to explore all my likes/dislikes and explain my options (of which there are many when you buy a suit like this, I was amazed), offering helpful comments as I made my choices.
He has an eye for detail, as you'd expect and, when we were at the measuring stage, he looked slightly mystified, as he said my jacket wasn't hanging correctly (although it looked fine to me !!), then he found the cause; I have one shoulder ever to slightly more sloping than the other (I must have walking around like that for over 50 years, who knew, not me !!).
When the suits were ready and I went to try them on, he took a lot of time to make sure they fitted exactly and no alterations were needed (none were, his expert eye again!!).
Clients have recently commented on how smart my suits look (what did my old suits, pre Toby, look like I now wonder!).
I was so impressed with Toby and my suits that I have been back recently to order a couple more.
Joanne kept me updated regarding my order and timescales as we went along, so I always knew what was going on.
All in all, one happy (and smart) client !!

I recently got married in April 2023 and used the opportunity to my first proper suit made as well as two bespoke shirts as I’m 6ft 8 and can never find clothes to fit correctly. From the initial conversation with Joanne and meeting Toby to go through the elements and details of commissioning a suit, the service was excellent and professional. The result was fantastic, and everything fitted perfectly. I returned to Hemmingway’s later in the year to commission a made to measure coat for my wife, and again the service was brilliant ad the result was fantastic as Toby was able to accommodate all the details my wife had in mind, from the cloth to the length of the coat. I would strongly recommend Hemingway’s to anyone to wants to commission a garment, you’ll definitely be in the right hands.

Rapid efficient service as always with beautiful quality made to measure shirts to go with the previous suits I have had. It’s increasing difficult to look like Cary Grant nowadays and I find the answer to be people like Toby at Hemingway Tailors. Todays high street outfitters seem obsessed with whatever is the latest trend which can look ridiculous on gentlemen of my age and build. Knowing what suits you and being able to have it made exactly as you would wish really is worth the effort.

I got my first made to measure suit from Hemingway and I have to say the whole experience was fantastic from start to finish. I looked at a couple of tailors and chose Hemingway after Toby made me welcome, talked me through the process with not just knowledge but sense; he was not going to let me make a terrible style decision! Four weeks after measurements and specifications and the suit arrived, fitting perfectly. I feel like a million bucks in this thing. Toby has fitted me with suits for many years. They are a great fit but my weight changes. Over time of course it goes up but sometimes I lose weight and I have the joy of wearing them again.

My daughter got married last year but like a fool I didn't contact him. I think covid had muddled my brain. So I bought a suit locally and had it "adjusted" by a local tailor. Not a great look. And then a few months ago I e mailed him and he called me within a few hours. Hurrah all was well and so was he. Same expertise and a smile. It comes naturally to him.

He made a cracking suit for me and had it sent to me on time for me to host afternoon tea for a small group to go to Claridges. That way I looked almost as smart as the others. Certainly as good as the waiters.

I confess to be from Yorkshire as well. It doesn't mean that he speaks to me somedays with an accent from Barnsley and the next day the dialect of someone from north Yorkshire. He may be able to do that, I'm not sure. But it means he does simple things very well and gives me good value. All the advice you need from buttons, linings, pockets and fabric. All with a smile and great patience. Bit of a star.

So I unreservedly recommend him to anyone who wants to dress well, whatever the occasion. You'll always look better than the waiter and women won't despise you for your dress sense.
