THIS IS A COMPLAINT AND REQUEST FOR ACTION AGAINST HEARTLAND LEGAL GROUP. I have been overwhelmed by creditors and lawsuits caused by the lack of contractual compliance by Heartland Legal Group! This company, a debt reduction/solution company, formally contracted with me in March 2020 to stop all interest accumulation and reach settlement agreements for six credit cards. In the contract I became aware of a Retainer Fee of ~$1000 in addition to an exorbitant fee structure – ultimately NOTHING was accomplished by Heartland and their "negotiators". Heartland defrauded and scammed me, and now almost five years later (at age 81), I have been sued by three of six debtors. I have been forced to endure no progress, no debt resolution, excessive fees, harrassing phone calls, poor communication with Heartland, no known results. I fulfilled my contractual obligation and then terminated my account with Heartland Legal Group through Global Holdings. Of course, I requested a final report from Heartland. However, there was never even a final communication, no report or letter or phone call, my portal was abruptly cut off, and to this day, I do not know what transpired with my account. Because of the abrupt shut down of my portal, I do not even have digital information. And, worse, CT Small Claims Court just issued a judgment against me (03/13/2025).

I urge investigation of Heartland Legal Group. This company’s representatives (legal or administrative) withheld activity information on my accounts and accomplished no resolution of my debt. Repeated attempts to obtain information were unsuccessful. I now believe that all moneys were falsely obtained from me, that I was defrauded and scammed; that my credit was ruined and that I am still suffering from the financial backlash of my experience with Heartland.

Heartland Legal Group must be investigated and amends rendered to me. I HOPE THAT MY COMPLAINT WILL CONTRIBUTE TO PREVENTING OTHERS FROM ENDURING SIMILAR HARDSHIPS AND ENCOURAGE THAT HEARTLAND LEGAL GROUP IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS.

I spoke to someone about a week ago in customer service to remove a debt that was on my program because for the past 9 months my wages were garnished to pay it. They have not removed it and in fact show it in litigation, which is false. They have now collected almost the full amount of my total program debt in 4 yrs and will not stop taking my money. The debt that was garnished was the largest of my debts and it was almost $10,000 taken over a 9 month period. I don't know what to do. I just want them to stop taking my money.

These lawyers are the most thieves that you can trust, they promise you a discount that one says is not much, but it is less and I take away the banks above, but in the end you pay more than what you owe to the Banks and there is no solution, Either you pay or you lose everything, you call them, they tell you that this was an estimate, the estimate was 15,000, and it turns out that you pay 21,000, neck and tie criminals. do not do business with these items.

During the pandemic I gave Heartland over $15,000 thinking I did the right research in finding a legal group. I was paying $508 a month to someone I thought would complete my debt in 3 years. One of my card was garnish , and when I call the attorney he stated he couldn't do nothing about it. When he was doing and told me he couldn't do that was if one of my cards was dropped from $1200 to $ $650 he couldn't pay it In 2 payment so he paid $25 a month until it was paid off on the credit card. Another card was dropped to $720 and he was paying $35 a month and I still complained to pay it off in 2 payment that never happen. He is an attorney, so what better, he drain almost all my money. So I took action and ask to talk to the supervisor, an attorney, so she helped and paid to more card in full....now I have a garnish card and 2 more that I took apon my self to pay. They was able to only give me back $800. Anyone that wants to use a legal group read the find line

So these guys are absolute crooks I had $20,000 in credit cards they told me I can have them entirely paid off including all their fees for about $15,000 and so I agreed and now that it comes down to the end of the three years they still have not taken care of the largest account which is over $10,000 of that total and of course now I’m going to have to pay more than I would’ve had I just been making the payments on the credit cards to begin with these guys are crooks. They’re liars they’re thieves. They should be sued. And of course now I’m going to have to pay more than I would’ve had. I just been making the payments on the credit cards to begin with. These guys are crooks they’re liars they’re thieves they should be sued and we should not have to pay any more than what they say under contract, they get away with it by saying it’s an estimate, and it’s under good faith, but I believe you are not under good faith, if you were off by 30% it’s just crooked and we all know the credit cards are settling for pennies on the dollar and they’re just here to milk. Those of us who were dumb enough to sign their contract do not do business with these people. These people will just ruin your lives, and you still end up getting hate mail from all the attorneys from all the other agencies that they aren’t paying .

Just like everyone else they make promises that they'll save you money in the end they cost you more money after 3 years I am left with $12,000 in debt that I have to handle myself because they wrongfully and purposely misread me information and now I have to hire attorney to see what legal ramifications I can have against them for breech a contract. The attorney they assigned to me never reached out to me when I had questions they always said that they would give me a supervisor to contact me never had I had to start recording all conversations on my end just so I can see what I can do. They say one thing and do another it is ridiculous that they did not even give three of my creditors power of attorneys so for 3 years it sat delinquent I started the program with no delinquent credit cards and now I have three of them that I need to take care of they have ruined my credit they have nothing but charge offs on my credit these people call themselves attorneys but I don't know if they even understand how to practice law!! They take advantage of people's vulnerability especially with the pandemic and people having a hard time with their jobs you essentially do not save money using them. They take their program cost first before they even start paying your creditors so your creditors don't receive money into your escrow account is built up so literally probably 6 months before your creditors even see a payment puts all your accounts in delinquent and they don't negotiate anything but to take off the late fees and the interest built up. And when you ask them for information to be sent to you about your account they have an attitude with you and you have to call them three or four times to get your information I still haven't received all the information I've asked them for their hiding stuff.

Beware of the hidden fees associated with Heartland Legal and Global Holdings, LLC. They took alot of money from me in services and fees which no one could give me an actual explanation of what the fees are for.

Terrible experience. The majority of my payments were going towards various fees and virtualy nothing went to accumulating a balance to settle my debts. If I had not started doing the math I would probobly be paying these vamps until the day I died.

I was working with heartland legal to settle unsecured debt. They were taking $496/mo out of my account with the plan to do it for 3 years. I came across a letter that one of my creditors would be going taking me to court. I called heartland AND emailed a copy of the letter I received. They gave the promise "it would be taken care of." It never was and now I have a judgement and additional collection against me. Last year I could no longer pay the $496/mo due to my bank account closing and financial issues. I didn't receive a dime back even though only one of my accounts were settled for $3000. They use Global holdings LLC as a payment processing company and either HLG and/or GBL charge outrageous fees versus what actually went to my debt.

I have paid the amount required in full and final settlement of my debt including the processing fee and other charges. This company is holding on to my money, and will not settled with the creditor. Every month, they deduct account maintenance charges for close to three years.

My complaints against Heartland Legal Group are the same as the rest. The salesman sell one thing and then they do another and no one returns calls, despite being escalated several times. They set you up on a payment plan and claim they will resolve your debt at %50. After they got all 30 monthly payments from me the creditor offered a %60 settlement. Instead of Heartland paying %50 and me paying the other %10 as the salesman said, they are expecting me to pay the whole %60 and are still withdrawing money out of my account beyond the 30 payments I agreed to. No one will call me back to explain what happened to all the money I paid them to pay off the %50, they just fall back on the legalese fine print in the contract, which completely contradicts what the salesmen sold me and the expectation they set on at the beginning. I would have saved money repaying %100 of the debt myself. All they do is redistribute the money you owe to themselves and then leave you with the debt they were supposed to resolve.

I was with this company over 2.5 years and they only settled 3 small cards out of my 9 I was up to date on all my cards before I started with this program. They told me to stop all payments on all my cards so this would drive the companies to settle for a lower price from them so in that time you collect late fees and other fees so let’s say you had a $500 debt then after not paying for 5-8 months your bills is now 800-1000 so they settle your account for $500 because they only have to save you less then what the account balance is at the time of settling not what your balance was when you first joined it’s a complete rip off also you pay for a lawyer $100 a month for 12 or so months but they don’t even have any lawyers licensed in your State I was being brought to court by one of my cards I uploaded the paperwork to heart land like I was supposed to but no lawyer even showed up I was standing there all by myself I didn’t know what to do. Now they want to garnish my wages which is crazy because wasn’t that what the money they take out of my account is for already?Might I add I was in this program 2.5 years paid $400 a month and they closed 3 small $300 cards so where did the rest of the money go you ask? Well how about you ask them? Because I’m more in debt now than I was before!! COMPLETE SCAM!!!

Have been a client since 2019. Only missed one payment due to Covid, even that was a chore. They have settled some of my debts but moving super slow while still collecting fees in excess of what they are paying my creditors. I understand what was in my documentation but it’s deflating to see how much of my money has gone to them vs what I still owe. I currently have 6 more payments. When trying to purchase a home, my DTI was a fraction too high. I called to ask if I was able to make a lump sum payment so my monthly payments can be reduced. Answer was no, due to the contract. I asked if I could send them the remaining 6 payments at once to end my program so I can move forward with my life. Person told me that in order to finish the program and pay them off today it would cost almost $8000. Which makes no sense. I went back through my paperwork and there is nothing that would warrant this scenario. They cannot explain anything without talking in circles and math is math. Please also note that one of my resolution dates for one of my debts would be 11/23 which is way past my end date. Have received no notice of this and only informed when I called them. I’m struggling to see how this is really helping me. Only time they took any action was when I told the lawyer assigned to my account that I might as well file bankruptcy. Anyone can allow the debts to be charged off and then negotiate a lower amount. My future plans and budget are hinging on an end date of 7/23 not sure why there has been zero movement on the last few accounts and I refuse to pay them past my contracted date. It has been a while since I googled them to see if I am the only person going through these changes and concerned that I am being scammed. They had a good amount of positive reviews the last time, which is why I stayed in the program. You are unable to receive a refund from them on charged off accounts but the very nature of what they do results in charge offs! Contradictory language and they take advantage of desperate people. They ignore requests from the BBB to resolve issues and I feel like I have paid thousands of dollars in admin fees and not to my creditors when they really aren’t working on my file. One of their partners Versara contacted me in the Spring of ‘21. Said I qualify for their program. I can take a loan to pay off the remaining debts. Which sounded good at first. All I have to do it continue paying them the same amount that I’m paying Heartland but tack on more than double of my remaining payments! Keep in mind, I was halfway through with the program at this point. I asked if the amount could be reduced. Answer was no. Apr was through the roof even though my credit was bad due to Heartland’s strategy. When I declined the offer and asked these very questions *crickets* I dodged a bullet with them but still in the fight with Heartland.

I am doing a final follow-up review with Heartland Legal Group. After leaving the program in November I already have my finances in order. I settled one account for way less than I owe. It will be paid up in March by paying less a month than what Heartland was taking out of my bank account. Another will be paid in full by November by paying less than the extra that they wanted to settle a debt. It is under control. I have been advised to report them to the Michigan Board of Responibility. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau. They have a score of F. There are alerts against their account. I have reported them to the Federal Trade Commission. There are agencies out there that can help. They have stolen my money and done nothing but settle one account. The rest I have taken care of myself. The downside is that the ones that went to court or sent to lawyers will still be rendered as a judgment against me but in a few years that will come off my credit report. I have also been advised to report my no-show lawyer to my states Board of Responibility. It will be a struggle to get out of the mess Heartland created for me with their scam but I will make a comeback. I hope this info was helpful to you that are struggling with this unethical, irresponsible, company. I wish they had a rating of no stars. My rating for them is a big fat ZERO.

Complete scam. Did nothing, took $7000+ in service fees. Refused to help.

I wish I could give 0 stars. Horrible experience. I understood that it would take some time to accumulate enough money in my account for debts to be settled and they did settle a couple of the smaller ones. However, this process is just taking too long. They took their fees off the top so it’s hard to understand my statement with multiple fees a month and sometime double the fees. And when I tried to remove a debt for one creditor they LIED and told me the negotiator reach out to the creditor and the creditor said they didn’t want a lump sum payment and to leave it in debt consolidation. I had to call WITH the creditor on the line to get that one removed. THEN I authorized a payment to pay off a debt was given the run around for 3 week and finally told that there wasn’t enough funds in my account to pay off the debt and that I would have to have add more money for them to request payoff. How is that possible you ask? Because they charged me additional fees that took my balance below what it would cost to settle the debt just so I would have to pay more money to cover new fees. This is the last debt that I have with them and I can only assume that they don’t want me to leave because they can’t charge me anymore fees. Meanwhile I’m the one hurting because I can’t get this creditor paid and it keeps reporting every month as a missed payment. No one seems to care. Honestly I’m thinking of contacting an attorney and starting a Facebook group to get a class action lawsuit together with these crooks. This has been the worst 2 1/2 years of my credit life. I realize now I should never have done this. I did a better job negotiating the debt I removed from them than they did. Do not sign up!!!!

The customer service agents are powerless so this isn't directed at them. They have always done their best to assist but have gotten me nowhere. This is directed toward their chain of command! I have been patient and never missed a payment despite struggling myself. Now that I'm on my last settlement I can't believe the lengths they are going to delay this process. I called numerous times and have been promised a settlement since August. Oh and get this, its with a company that they are familiar with working with on top of that!
I feel like this is a stall tactic for them to wait until I complete my term and given what these other people are saying I wouldn't be surprised if they asked me for more money. If someone doesn't give me an update soon I'll be asking for my money back because this is ridiculous. People who are in debt are already under emotional distress and here you guys are adding to it.

Worst company ever! This company started off paying things off. Then, all of a sudden I heard nothing and the two years were up. I called weekly in the Summer and every week they said I’d hear about settlements for all the remaining accounts. It never happened. Sure enough they wanted more money. Then I told them I wanted to cancel their service and get my remaining money back. They told me they canceled it and to expect a direct deposit into my account. A month went by and I called them back. The account still wasn’t closed and my deposit wasn’t even requested. I called 4 more times within a week to finally get the account closed correctly. Then, they never ordered the direct deposit. I had to call Global Holdings and tell them I believed everything to be a scam and I feel that I need to get a lawyer. They assured me I would get paid. Sure enough…I finally was the next day. This company is a total scam! Run! They are a nightmare to deal with!

If you want to have the worst experience in your life choose this company. They will tell you that in 2 years they will negotiate your debt to make a settlement but they will take half of what you pay as service fee then after 2 years you get a litigation. Noone in2 years negotiated anything for you then after you paid them over 9k for your debt they will ask you for more money to make the settlement my debt was originally 12k so I will end up paying even more. Noone will ever call you or communicate anything to you until you are screw. Save yourself the trouble and don't choose them.
