company refused to honour a claim for a consultation and reimburse a single anatomical site MR scan. they requested a clarification letter from the consultant even though the first letter was obvious and despite repeated phone calls and exhortation from our insurance broker they again demanded a further letter from the consultant - this was insulting to the surgeon and a huge waste of time, after several months we paid out of our own pockets - the insurance is not legitimate - as the policy holder and a medical professional i found the actions of this company to be bogus

I had a total shoulder replacement on…
I had a total shoulder replacement on Friday 21st March and from my initial phone call to my medical insurance company, General and Medical, to ask about claiming for this procedure every one was so helpful , they all realised that I was quite nervous, I’m in my late 70’s, and helped me sail through my claim with patience, knowledge of my claim and respect and kindness towards me. When they said they would call me back, they did. On Friday 11th April, 3 weeks post operation, Sanum , Clients Relations Co-ordinator, called me back due to a question I needed answering regarding my physio, immediately she answered my query and asked how I was progressing and took time to explain everything to me. I will most definitely recommend General and Medical regarding claiming- they are a pleasure to deal with.

If I could give no stars I would
If I could give no stars I would. I raised a claim relating to an urgent referral 2 months ago and am still waiting for a response.
The consent form that they provided for me to send to my GP is unclear and badly worded leading to a long delay in getting the information. My GP surgery has confirmed receipt of the consent form and are awaiting the request for information. General Medical maintain that the consent form is the request! I feel like piggy in the middle and I'm getting nowhere.
General Medical have not been proactive throughout the claim process. When I have requested an update their emails to me have been rude and abrupt. One email even implied that I'm stupid or a liar!
It feels like they are deliberately creating confusion and delays to avoid paying out. I strongly suggest spending your money elsewhere.
Edit following the standard response received from General Medical: I have been in contact with General Medical using those contact details many times and received the abrupt, unhelpful responses referred to above. With other insurers the process of me giving consent and them receiving access to my online medical records is all electronic and happens in a matter of minutes/hours. Two months is a ridiculous amount of time for this process to take and the delays are all caused by General Medical's unclear forms and lack of guidance/follow up.

Very slow to respond to claim requests
Very slow to respond to claim requests, took two weeks for a physio request which was then declined by the underwriters anyway. Left and moved to BUPA who respond to claim requested within 24 hours regardless of the outcome.
