The communication is very unfriendly and not helpful. There are many other auction houses providing better services
By far the worst auction experience
By far the worst auction experience, I would give 0 star if possible. I wish I read all those negative reviews before I bid with them. The lot I bought is flawed and were not described in the description. The auction house uses an automated telephone service and when contacted by email, they rejected return or any form of refund. Instead, they told me it's my own fault for not asking for a condition report. This is their way of getting away with flawed items without describing the flaws. Also, they charge a ridiculously expensive shipping fee of 32 pound for what's normally within 10 pound with DPD.

I use this car auctions more than 24 years now They are cheaters. Always he put price up on air . And the office very rude. Specially the old woman .
Sold items but when it came to payment…
Sold items but when it came to payment day I got nothing, when I sent an email to ask why money is not there they lied told me it had been paid I sent another email saying I would take it further they have now told me because I left a bad review and saying I will take it further deems me as nasty in their eyes and they say as punishment they are going to withhold it from me for 2wks as a lady with disabilities I'm in desperate need of this money which is legally mine, so now I have no items and no money and don't know what to do.
Please avoid these rude unhelpful lying disrespectful people .

Several aspects of this purchase which I find necessary to complain and write a review.
1) Condition report of Artwork inaccurate.
2) No in house transit insurance offered.
3) Arrived 24hrs late by recommended Courier.
4) Despite the work being well packed,Glazing and frame arrived in a damaged condition.
Be aware.!
Awful
Never left a review before but this place is so bad I had to. Avoid at all costs! £19.80 to post cuff links…
Also, it’s almost impossible to get through via telephone as they have installed a purposefully convoluted automated answering machine. When I did get through the member of staff was incredibly rude. I buy a lot from auctions and I’ve not once made a complaint, completely abnormal experience.
Having dealt with Eastbourne Auctions…
Having dealt with Eastbourne Auctions for approx 10 years, I honestly don’t recognise the adverse comments. It is an auction, different rules apply however my most recent transaction caused hiccups due to size & collection probs, they exhausted all avenues to assist me. On many occasions in past I have requested condition report on items & always received, as with any enquiries rapid response.I tend to buy from many auctions countrywide & Eastbourne Auctions are equal to those I regard as professional, helpful & accommodating.
Dreadful service, unhelpful and extortionate
Dreadful. Online card payment system not working and bank confirmed that it was a problem with the auction house's payment system - does not meet latest online security standards. Auction house refused to sort out. Unhelpful staff. When I arranged for my courier to pay cash to get round their broken payment system, they extorted additional money by way of increased commission 'for the delay'. I buy from hundreds of auction houses each year and this is without question the worst experience. To be avoided.
Eastbourne Auctions = A Hellish Nightmare. I wish I had read these negative reviews before…
I wish I had read these reviews before getting involved with this nightmare online auction room. Impossible to get any decent information about anything before bidding, for example whether an electrical item they had barely described is 240V UK voltage. I bid £50 on an amplifier shown with one poor quality picture and poorly described but at least offered with it's original shipping box. They then added a £14 charge for the "service" of taping the shipping label to the box.
I disputed the £14 packing fee because the auction was for the amplifier with a matching box that, if unfit for purpose, should not have been advertised. Instead of making it simple to book a collection they refused to give me weight and box dimensions until after I paid. The messages I received were rude, unprofessional, bordering on illiterate. One of Eastbourne Auctions' moronic replies reads:
"Sir what is absurd is you have failed to pay and are asking ridiculous questions. Moreove you seem intent on compalinging for no reason. We will pack and weigh when you have paid, is this absurd?"
The staff's attitude, is shockingly unprofessional..
A response from the managing director was requested to no avail.
After paying the £50 I had bid plus the £20 auctioneers fee I still did not receive the information needed to book collection,so I again requested box dimensions and weight.
The next day I received the box dimension, but still no shipping weight. I had to ask again for a sixth time. The next day they finally told me the weight.
I immediately booked a £30 UPS express collection and emailed a shipping label to Eastbourne Auction, who replied
Hello, We have attached your label to the box. A few hours later they emailed me:
Dear Sir, UPS have been to collect your parcel but refused to collect it. Kind regards.
UPS later emailed me: "Our driver made a collection attempt, however the item was not packaged therefore not ready for collection. The auction house would need to be contacted to ensure the item is packaged and ready for collection."
Eastbourne Auctions also sent me several blunt threats of additional "storage fees" that would quickly result in me losing the item I had paid for and thus the £30 paid to UPS for collection. These nasty threats included statements that their "terms and conditions" give them a legal right to re-sell "uncollected" items in their next auction.
They ignored my messages with photos of the item I had bought, that proved I had bought an amplifier with its original shipping box that simply needed taping up.
My requests for a photo of the box which I was told had my Parcel2Go/UPS shipping label attached but was allegedly "not packed" were ignored.
Clearly Eastbourneauction were attempting to extort an extra 14 GBP from me for taping up the box or keep the item uncollected, so they could start charging storage fees in accordance with their "terms and conditions" many of which clearly contravene the Unfair Terms & Conditions Act 1977, the Trade Descriptions Act, the Sale Of Goods Act and UK Distance Selling Regulations.
I was left with three choices, 1: Let them keep it and lose a lot of hard earned money. 2: Waste more time and money by taking a train from London to Eastbourne 3: Hire a local Eastbourne minicab to collect from Eastbourneauction.
The brilliant mini cab driver was perfectly happy to buy a roll of tape, and drop the taped up box down the road to the UPS collection point. I sensed immediately that Eastbourne is full of honest helpful people and although my faith in positive, kind human spirit had been slightly restored, unfortunately I had also experienced the nastiest human specimen that, had I known, I would not have gone near with a ten foot barge pole, let alone placed bids with Eastbourneauction.
Thank goodness I read these reviews
Thank goodness I read these reviews. I intended to bid but the 30% charge is ridiculous and the postage terms are also ridiculous. Won't bother. Thanks reviewers.
Bought a doll at auction for 50
Bought a doll at auction for 50, paid taxes 20 and shipping 22, received a doll with damaged eyes. The auction told me they were not responsible. Avoid.
Good experience with Eastbourne auction
Hello
Have been reading some reviews which really sounds frustrating and unbelievable.
Dealt with most of Uk auctions for 28years.
Can’t say anything bad about my experience with Eastbourne auction. You can really find a good piece of antique at very reasonable price.
I mainly purchase art and antiques -Russian and Islamic. For sure, compare with fakes all the other auctions are selling having a “specialist departments”, Eastbourne is much better. At least they do not present themselves as Specialist in Russian or Islamic art, just provide you with information available and leave you to decide yourself.
If you have good knowledge and experience you don’t need to listen to any auctioneer or so called specialist.
BTW had very bad experience with Bonhams, definitely won’t buy with them anymore.
My advise: Always rely only on your own knowledge, examine the items and make sure to use proper shipping company for safety. At list risks reduction is guaranteed.
Purchased some nice avant garde paintings, real, early Iznik tiles and chargers. Very much happy with prices and service.
For sure will recommend this auction!
Complete disregard for integrity and their customers AVOID
I have now opened a legal case against Eastbourne Auctions after trying and failing to find a way to engage them.
You cannot speak to anybody on the phone when you call as heir automatic system simply does not give you that option - they only deal through Email and then anonymously.
My legal claim is due to them delivering two items that were valueless. Firstly, a Jimi Hendrix vinyl LP that was terminally damaged, obviously after the photos on line were posted on the Saleroom prior to the damage & I paid over £100.
Secondly a valuable Pink Floyd LP that was sent with a completely different and worthless title inside the photographed sleeve.
Please be warned of this - I am joining the many others on this site who have also been treated with complete disdain and ignorance by Eastbourne Auctions. I iinvite them to respond!!!
UPDATE - Eventuall, after many attempts I have received this Email which completely ignores the terminally damaged and very expensive Hendrix LP that
Dears Sir
Liam, our cataloguer has today explained to me the contents of your last email.
The way we understand it is that you claim that one sleeve does not have the original record inside.
We are unable to either prove or disprove this. There are crooks in the market place that will remove the original and replace and whilst we do not accuse you of this, we cannot rule it out or prove it or differently. We make no accusations in this matter at this stage.
In an effort to bring this matter to conclusion, please return the complete lot in dispute and we will refund you the hammer price and buyers premium in accordance with our terms and conditions.
We await sight of the said lot in order we can process the refund. Please note we do not offer partial refunds, we will return the lot to our vendor, the surviving partner of a deceased gentleman and take further instructions in this matter
For your information in the event you attempt to issue us with a court summons we will deny responsibility and refer you to our vendor, we have already made payment to her. We refer you to our terms and conditions.
Kind regards
Paul
Draw your own conclusions!
Experience not good
Experience not good, sold items before with them . And at the time ask for them to be represented in small lots , which they didn’t do so I mention this to them about this but too late as items were listed . Move on couple of years I bring some items in to sell , sorry can’t accept your items as u complain to us before ! Totally shocked with this outcome, but happy to take my money when I purchase things , so never again will I bid at your place , a local customer lost
Worst auction house should be banned…
Worst auction house should be banned everything l bought was either broken or miss described pictures was blown up so much that they did not represent the item.
Auctioneers was a joke opening the bid after putting the hammer down,
I will never buy here again
Money maker!
I was, thankfully, banned from Eastbourne Auctions and Easy Live (Paul owns the first and is a major shareholder in the other) as well. Best thing that has happened to me in years. I don't spend any money with them. Reason for the ban? I gave them a 3-star rating in a review and mentioned the incredible amount of forgeries with "indistinct" signatures. I expect the Markey Robinson art factory to be closed by now! Paul, I will give you that, you know how to make money koumbare :-)
Absolutely awful
Absolutely awful, charged £18 for delivery 5 minutes away, one small lot of books, over a week and not heard anything about expected delivery day, email no reply, have bought a lot in the past and this was first delivery I asked for, never again for sure
I bought a small lot for £26
I bought a small lot for £26. Three prints, no more than a kilo in weight at the most. The delivery charge was £42 which we challenged and never heard back. There is no way they'll communicate except by email, so pretty disgusted. A Royal Mail Signed For at that weight would have been less than £10 plus a little extra for handling. Paid 10 days ago, and only expecting the parcel tomorrow 11/6. I'm not lining their pockets again and will take my business elsewhere. Bearing in mind I've spent over £750 with them in the past.
Update: One of the prints - thick paper was rolled up leading to creasing. I'd share a photo if i could. Very poor. And, why has my review disappeared????
