Have used the free version for 2 years. At first it was fine and did exactly what it said on the tin.
Tried it recently and its almost impossible to use with pop up ads at every mouse click (some are to be expected) and diminished functionality. Allows me to upload pics but then wont display them, regardless of what privacy settings I set. Was trying to share some images with friends abroad but given up now and found an alternate provider.
I opened a Dropshots account (owned by WebMinds, Inc) in 2005. At that time the video hosting site was free. Fast forward 14 years and I logged in to Dropshots to retrieve a video of my father to share with my family. My account was locked down with a message to update my credit card information to access my content. As this video was very important to me, I decided to pay the $4.95 to unlock my account and the next morning woke up to THIRTY ONE duplicate (unauthorized) charges to my account, totaling over $150.00. I called the number listed for Dropshots on my bank statement and left a message, opened three support tickets through their website, and only received a response when I took to their Facebook page with my complaint. Their so-called "fair and amicable" solution was to offer me a $10.00 discount off a $99.99 premium membership, with a credit for the remaining $64, saying that the charges were "back pay" - for a membership I never had to pay for previously. And any attempts by me to download and delete my remaining videos, delete my credit card information and/or close my account failed to work. No wonder why Dropshots has to rely on shady business practices and scamming people into paying exorbitant prices to access their content - their business and website are obviously on the brink of going down. I ended up resorting to disputing the fraudulent, unauthorized charges with my bank and had to cancel my debit card to prevent any further charges.
Took me a lot of time and research to stop them taking my money, had to find the US version of trading standards before they stopped. Even considered changing my bank account as it was done through a debit card and they weren't able to block it! Paid for over a year while this was being sorted and never got that money back.
Steals your money. Can never cancel your membership unless you cancel your credit card.
An easy to use photosharing site with good privacy features. There are glitches sometimes, but I can live with that because it's free.
I found out about DropShots when I googled for a photo sharing site and I liked what I saw. The site offers a completely free membership that lets you store up to 500 photos, which is enough for most people. There is a paid plan too (around $5/month or $100 for a lifetime membership).
You can easily share photos and videos with anyone and what I like most is that you can do it privately. You can even check a checkbox to prevent search engines from indexing your photos.
Dropshots is a Photo Sharing website but be warned about how easily this company takes your money even when you don't want it to. When you first look into this site as with many others they offer you a Free Trial, which as its Free most of us will show an interest and if we like what we see sign up after the trial to continue using it. However when you sign up for a trial you have to fill in your credit / debit card details which of course you would think the company will not charge you on if you decide to cancel your membership. In my case I tried the site , uploaded only 20 Photos , didn't like how the site performed and cancelled my membership. But, did I still get charged for the Lifetime Membership which I signed for as if I wanted to carry on using the site , would have been the best deal . Yes, I did get charged around $100. Am I using the site ? No I am not there is not a photo on it, and despite having cancelled the membership on two occasions its still there. To summarise , DO NOT trial this site because if you don't like it which you probably as I found will not , Dropshots will keep your money.
