Awful company. Booked with car jet (another awful company) and was told when I collected the car that the insurance I had from car jet was no use and that I’d have to pay another £300 for their insurance!! None of this is clear until you collect the car ! I was fleeced out of £600 to rent a car for 12 days .

I gave 1 star only because it didn't allow me to leave no stars. Honestly the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Lied to by the agent at local office, then raised a complaint using the complaints portal and they closed the complaint without dealing with it so could not escalate it further. Then emailed customer services who didn't reply. Do not go near this company, I was charged a cross border fee and the agent even admitted I had not crossed any borders and never left the country.

 A few days ago, I urgently needed a car in Aberdeen. Imad from the local Drivalia branch provided me with a first-class service; he sorted everything out to my complete satisfaction and saved me a lot of hassle – thank you.

Gatwick Airport: make sure optional insurance is clearly explained before signing
I rented a car from Drivalia at Gatwick Airport through Discover Cars. I had already purchased Full Coverage, and my booking documentation stated that a refundable £1,500 security deposit would be placed on my credit card and that additional coverage offered at the rental desk could be declined.
I presented the required credit card at collection. Nevertheless, I ended up paying an additional £67.98 for Drivalia “Relax Protection”.
To be clear, I do not dispute that I signed the Rental Agreement or authorised the £67.98 card transaction. My complaint concerns what was explained before I signed.
I do not recall being clearly told that Relax Protection was an optional product or that I could decline it and simply proceed with the standard £1,500 credit-card deposit. Had those two alternatives been clearly presented to me, I would have chosen the deposit.
I subsequently raised the matter through Drivalia's complaints procedure and ultimately referred it to the BVRLA ADR Service.
BVRLA explained that its Code requires optional products and their costs to be clearly explained so that customers can make an informed choice. However, because there was no contemporaneous evidence establishing exactly what was said during the discussion at the rental desk, BVRLA concluded that it could not establish a clear breach of its Code and therefore could not require Drivalia to refund the £67.98.
I think that is important context to include in this review: I am not claiming that BVRLA ruled against Drivalia. It did not. My concern remains that I did not understand at the desk that I was choosing an additional £67.98 product instead of the standard deposit.
My advice to future customers is simple: before signing the Rental Agreement or entering your PIN, ask explicitly whether Relax Protection or any other optional product has been added, ask for its exact cost, and ask whether you can instead leave the standard security deposit on your credit card.

UPDATE following Drivalia's response below:
Drivalia has asked me publicly to contact them through their Manage My Booking portal so that they can “fully investigate the issue”. For clarity, I already did exactly this.
I raised the complaint through Drivalia's Manage My Booking portal (cases CS-3577902-01 and CS-3577902-02), received a decision from the Gatwick Airport Manager, escalated the complaint to Drivalia's Customer Service Management team, and received Drivalia's final decision on 15 September 2026.
Only after exhausting Drivalia's internal complaints procedure did I refer the matter to the BVRLA ADR Service, as already explained in my original review.
I therefore do not understand why Drivalia's public response is directing me back to the beginning of a complaints process that has already been fully completed.

Today I was in Milan to pick up a rental car. I walked past The Drivalia rental counter. I got nauseous en felt like trowing up instantanuously. That describes HOW INCREDIBLY BAD my experience with them was in Edinburgh 2 years ago. They literally make me sick even after 2 years! AVOID THEM, THEY ARE HARTLESS THIEFS, they would no doubt sell their OWN mothers and children to make a Buck . What they do is force you to pay an enormous additional amound for Insurance even of you already got that covered for 100% including all waivers. The trick is that they say your CC is not valid which is not true. If you dont pay them hundreds of € extra you dont get a car, you have been warned, there are plenty other rental companies, use these!

Imad was a great help and very accommodating to my family on our trip, the car was perfectly clean and the booking was straightforward as can be. Will use again!
