This is the third time I’ve had trouble with a merchant charging me a subscription instead of one time purchase and discover card whom I’ve been with for 30 years , not helping as they say they will back there customers / card holders . Not only that but they say 5 percent cash back but have changed their platform to one you have to go in every month and sigh up for this , instead of automatically doing it like they use to
I quit!!
They don’t have my back and their customer support people don’t either

Bad experience with Discovered Card

I applied for a secured Discover credit card, providing $2,500.00 as collateral, which was deducted from my personal checking account. Following approval, I received a request from Discover to sign a document through Equifax related to the Social Security Administration office; however, I was apprehensive about signing it. Despite my apprehension, I signed it since they had already taken my funds and mailed the credit card to me. On Saturday, March 21, 2026, I received an email indicating that I had a message when accessing the app or website. The message instructed me to contact Discover at 1-800-DISCOVER. Upon contacting Discover, I was informed that they had closed my account, and I would need to wait two billing cycles and ten business days to receive my $2,500.00 security deposit refund. Notably, I never utilized the card. As an Army veteran, American citizen, and individual with a disability, I find Discover's actions to be egregious. I am aware that Capital One acquired Discover. I requested that they expedite the return of my security deposit, considering I never used the card, but they declined.

I have never reviewed a credit card…

I have never reviewed a credit card before but this one is so bad I had to try and review it everywhere. I have great credit and always pay, but if you have any problems ie. charges that aren’t yours or have to contact them for anything, the customer service is terrible!!! They don’t follow thru on anything and are the worst I have personally experienced. There are plenty of good credit card companies out there, I know because I have AMX, Capitol One and Cit Bank. All very good. AVOID DISCOVER AND BELIEVE ALL THE BAD REVIEWS!!!!!!!!

A disappointing end to a 10-year relationship

After being a loyal customer for over a decade, I’ve officially closed my account. Discover clearly does not value long-term cardholders who maintain perfect payment histories and consistently pay down their balances.

The breaking point was a recent dispute over a $336 charge from a Ford dealer’s service department. Despite my providing a detailed work order and receipt showing that the dealership completely bypassed the requested repair I paid for, Discover refused to help. Although they issued a temporary credit during the "investigation," they ultimately allowed the charge to stand.

It felt as though they didn't actually investigate or ask the merchant the right questions. Had they consulted anyone with mechanical expertise, the outcome would have been different. If a decade of loyalty doesn't earn you a fair shake during your first-ever dispute, the card isn't worth keeping.

I didn’t know that a company can just…

I didn’t know that a company can just take your old credit card info and charge you and Discover will not get involved. I did business with a company over a year ago. They used my card info to charge me when I haven’t ordered anything. Discover treated me as though I were the criminal. They refused to look into it. I DO NOT TRUST THEM AT THIS POINT.

Don't count on any kind of reduction.

Workers are polite even when telling you that there are no offers to reduce payoff, regardless of why you want to. They are just as bad as Cap One in reducing interest rates or paying off balances. Will NEVER get another Discover card.

9 years I've had the Discover card

9 years I've had the Discover card. Never had a problem with them. In fact, their customer service is knowledgeable, savvy, and quickly & easily helpful. I'd had to interact with them a few times a year for things like misplaced cards, transaction disputes, and questions about transactions that their automated system flags for security review - all of which they handle quickly and cheerfully.
I started out with a pre-paid card, just to build credit - which worked fantastically. After a while, without my asking, they turned it into a regular card. As I've paid it off several times, often my credit limit gets increased - also without my even having to ask.
And, of course, the cashback is a nice gift each month. (I wish I had fully comprehended the double cashback for the first year. I would have used the card more during that time.) I don't use the rotating categories thing for cashback. I use the other option, which is just restaurants & gas station 2% thing. I recommend that for everyone. Discover is one of the best financial decisions I ever made.

Downhill really fast

Downhill really fast. All of a sudden, I can't log in. After spending an hour and a half on the phone with the usual "clear Cookies" advice, one agent says they don't support Linux. Seriously, they are in the technology dark ages, and I never had a problem before. Luckily, there is "user agent switcher" extension. 3 agents later yesterday and two are totally out of touch. One couldn't understand why I was scared that someone had dhacked my account. Then I get some ---- about there being 2 sides to discover even though all accounts are consolidated on the account page. One for credit card and one for bank. Run! Do not walk from Discover.

Do not open a Discover card hoping to…

Do not open a Discover card hoping to transfer a capital one account. You can't, they merged in May of 2025 they don't allow transfers. One can easily assume its so they doing get less on interest. Nothing anywhere to inform the customer until it's too late. Typical shady business.

Would give the card a 1 if I could. I paid my card on time every single month I haven’t owed anything in a few months now & if I did I paid it by due date yet they closed my account. If you want a good card get Citi.

Discover refuses to honor the law

It is unacceptable that @Discover's dispute department is willfully ignoring written evidence of a return while misleading federal regulators. I have a case (CFPB ID: 260108-27551336) where Discover told the CFPB the investigation is 'in progress' while sending me a 'Final Denial' the day prior. Despite proof of UPS delivery and Amazon's written confirmation of receipt, Discover refuses to honor the law (FCBA). I expect the executive leadership to address this bad-faith handling of consumer disputes immediately.

I have been trying to receive a refund check that Discover repeatedly told me was issued — only to find out later that none of that was true. Below is the exact timeline of what happened. December 18, 2025
A Discover representative told me that my refund check had been issued and mailed. I was told to expect it soon.
December 30, 2025
After not receiving anything, I called Discover again. I was told a second time that the check had been issued and mailed. No one mentioned any problems or delays.
January 2026
Still no check. I called Discover again. This time, I was told something completely different:
The previous representatives were wrong
The check was never actually sent
It “might” have been sent to the State of Louisiana as unclaimed property
Discover could not confirm anything about whether it was actually sent to the state
The State of Louisiana shows no record of receiving any such funds
I called Discover again today, and the representative could not confirm whether the check was ever mailed, ever processed, or ever transferred to the state. I was simply told to “call Louisiana unclaimed property in the morning.” Why This Is a Serious Problem
I was given false information multiple times
Discover’s own representatives contradicted each other
No one can tell me where my money is
No one can confirm whether the refund was ever processed
I am being sent in circles between Discover and the State of Louisiana
This is not a minor issue — this is my money, and Discover cannot even track it
For a financial institution, this level of incompetence is unacceptable. If a customer made this many mistakes, Discover would charge fees, interest, and penalties. But when Discover makes the mistakes, the customer is left with no answers and no accountability. Bottom Line
Discover failed to:
Provide accurate information
Track a simple refund
Communicate honestly
Take responsibility for their own errors
Resolve an issue they created
I have wasted hours on the phone, received conflicting stories, and still have no refund check and no confirmation of where my money is.
This experience has destroyed my trust in Discover as a credit card company.

I settled this account and paid it off

I settled this account and paid it off. Now they are adding it as a charge-off with a zero balance. They are causing me more problems after I paid it off. I need them to change that and state a settled account. They could at least try to support consumers who pay off high-interest accounts.

Disputed a fradulent Frontier Airlines…

Disputed a fradulent Frontier Airlines charge with Discover. Frontier acknowledges that they don't know why the charge exists and recommended that I dispute it. Discover proceeded to not investigate the dispute and kept siding with Frontier, despite me providing a ton of evidence to the contrary. Scammy business with an inept customer service department. I will no longer be using this card and strongly recommend that others do not use Discover products.

What they do not tell you until you…

What they do not tell you until you want to do a balance transfer to their card is that they make you wait 14 days after you get approved to make a transfer. I have had 5 other bank cards that allowed me to do a transfer immediately. NOT ACCEPTABLE!!

Don't expect any care or effort from Discover when you have a dispute

Discover definitely does not go out of their way to protect their card users. Even when I have provided the proof they said I would need to be reimbursed from the equally inept Booking.com, they very lazily state there is nothing they can do and although they acknowledge I have provided proof that I paid twice, because Booking.com can't provide proof that they paid the vendor, but only says that they did, Discover considers it a done deal.
I have had a Discover Card since the late '80's and always felt they were a stand up company, but they were acquired by capital One earlier this year, and I have always been abandoned by Capital One. It would appear they have quickly absorbed the Capital One customer service culture.
