Had a great viewing following my short notice request, with Daniel, who was very knowledgeable about the property, and very professional. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Chancellors Leominster even though, on this occasion, we didn’t short list the property as a potential purchase.

Today’s viewing was really good experience. Daniel was very approachable and easy to talk to . I didn’t feel rushed and I will not worry about continuing to be in communication with Daniel regarding today’s viewing.

Dan showed excellent knowledge when showing us around the houses today answered all our questions, nothing was to much trouble. It’s so nice to feel so comfortable when viewing and all the vendors would be pleased with how he presented the houses I’m sure.

Having recently sold my Brighton house to move to Herefordshire, I was excited to see a property on rightmove in early December that seemed ideal. I mailed Chancellors directly to arrange a viewing but was disappointed not to receive any reply to this mail. So, 24 hours later, I called the office to speak to somebody directly. After the phone ringing out on the first attempt, I was connected to a lady at head office who took my details, said a viewing would be fine for later in the week and that somebody from the branch would call me to confirm.

24 hours later, nobody had contacted me (still no reply to the mail either) so I called again and was eventually connected to a lady at head office who looked at my details and seemed genuinely surprised that nobody had contacted me. As I was in the area doing viewings for the next few days she said she would pass on an urgent message to the branch to contact me.

About 30 minutes later, a rather angry-sounding lady called me from the Leominster branch and launched straight into telling me that the property had "quirks that would put many buyers off" - graves in the garden. When I was unperturbed by this, she went on to tell me that the vendors had just had a baby and didn't want any viewings until the New Year when they might or might not have an open house.

The conversation was odd. I pointed out I was a cash buyer and really wanted to view this property but was told to get back to them in January "if (I was) still looking". This was the first time I had ever felt an agent was trying to put me off a property (!) but I reiterated my interest and was told I would be contacted when the vendors were accepting viewings. It seems pertinent to mention that the property had only gone back on the market on December 5th and that the Hereford Times ran an article about said property on December 15th, which made it all the more remarkable that the vendors apparently didn't want viewings.

Fast forward to January 10th 2025. The property was still listed for sale on both rightmove and Chancellors website, so as per instruction I contacted again, this time mailing via rightmove. The next morning I received a mail from Timothy Whorwood of the Hereford branch telling me that "unfortunately" it was now "under offer". I mailed back expressing confusion as to how the property could go from "no viewings" to "under offer" without my having been contacted regarding the requested viewing. I was so bemused, in fact, that I mailed the Directors of Chancellors as I felt that something odd was going on here. Timothy mailed and told me he would contact his colleague Becky at Leominster to find out what had happened and I received a voicemail and e-mail from her the next day telling me that the vendors had accepted an offer from a "previous viewer" and *had instructed them not to book more viewings* but that if anything changed she would contact me.

A few days after, I received a mail from Raquel Landman of Chancellors Directors who told me she had escalated the matter to Joanne Wilson, Group Associate Director, who would be contacting me to discuss my concerns.

Come January 24th, the property was still listed for sale on both rightmove and Chancellors website. So, to try dispel the paranoia that I was being blocked from viewing, I asked a friend of mine to contact Chancellors to enquire about the property. She duly mailed them via rightmove. Which is when it all got rather interesting.

The next morning she received a call from Timothy Whorwood - the same man who told me the property was "under offer" - who told her that yes, she could view the property (they had had a "lot of viewings" apparently but in terms of a sale they "just couldn't get it past the line"), in fact she could have the next available viewing, there was probably wiggle room on the new price and then sent her an e-mail chasing up the viewing request. A rather different story to the one I had been repeatedly presented with - no mention of graves, babies or open houses. Nor any mention of it being "under offer".

So it would appear I had been lied to by both Timothy and Becky. The property is definitely still on the market, they are booking in viewings - just not with myself.

I have retained all communications relating to this and I remain in the dark as to why I, in particular, am not welcome to view this property. I have relayed these developments to the Directors and await an explanation. As it stands, I am obviously unable to recommend Chancellors to anyone based on this experience which has been one of time-wasting and apparent dishonesty, not to mention lack of professionalism and transparency.

UPDATE: Joanne contacted me today and told me there was no record of my having mailed in December, nor of my chats with head office. I have provided proof both of these calls and of my friend's invitation to view.

Daniel was on time, polite and did his best to answer all of our questions. He had obviously taken the time to become well acquainted with the property we were viewing.

Daniel kept in constant contact, and on the day of the viewing texted and rang to confirm the appointment. He arrived on time at the property, (very important for an ex serviceman). Throughout the viewing he was frank and honest, well informed and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed the viewing, loved the property and Daniel’s professionalism enhanced the experience.

Great agent hosting our viewing. It was hard to picture ourselves living there due to the cleanliness of the property and the dogs. We are not wanting to move forward with this property.
