In June we rented 2 cars for 2 weeks at Pisa Airport via the German broker/portal Billiger-Mietwagen.de – organised via Carnect/Carhiremarket and Arguscarhire. The cars were handed out in Pisa by local operator Noleggiare.

Noleggiare didn’t accept the full insurance paid to Billiger-Mietwagen.de (to Carnect/Carhiremarket and Arguscarhire) – despite of our vouchers/documents clearly stating that. So, we had to pay full insurance again at Pisa Airport. In total we were forced to pay more than 4,000 € for 2 cars in 2 weeks. For that amount we could have rented 4 cars at Avis, Hertz or Europcar.

All involved parties – from Billiger-Mietwagen.de, over Carnect/Carhiremarket and Arguscarhire to local operator Noleggiare refused totally to reimburse any of the almost 2,000 € we had to pay on top of the rental price initially paid.

STAY FAR AWAY from brookers and organisers like Billiger-Mietwagen.de or Arguscarhire – and local operators like Noleggiare. They are just crooks and scam you. 🤬

RENT ONLY from well-known, respected and credible car rental company directly at the airport of arrival origin. NEVER-EVER rent via a brooker/portal. They just steal your money! 🤬

We had a delay with our flight and waited for our luggage 2 hours.
Employe told us car is canceled because we are to late. The car is full paid. He wanted 200,- EUR cash to reactivate the reservation. Only cash no card!

They include insurance but in case something happens, you can't even find a contact form for this. They will never pay you any money. Contacting them is impossible.

Would be 0 Stars if it would let me! Had to cancel our booking due to the pandemic. Cancelled well in advance of their 48 hour policy. Whilst there was no protest to our cancelling, it has taken over a month and no refund received. Keep getting the same "we have escalated to our accounts department, please wait 10 working days" response but no closer to a resolution. We have now had to put a claim through the card issuer. Would not recommend.

Beware. And book direct. I wouldn’t book through them ever again. There is a two hour grace period, so you have 120 minutes to collect your car from the time they set. If late, you lose 100% of your payment. The site is useful to compare price and availability in an area, so you don’t have to look up each individual car rental company, but do that and then book direct. Car Hire Market is a third party of course, so they say they don’t have anything to do with the vehicle supplier, and the supplier, the car rental company, isn’t inclined to help because you booked through a third party - it’s not their problem. So use the site to see what’s available then book direct with the rental company, that’s my advice. Car Hire Market customer service / customer care? Zero.

I made the booking two days before I was travelling. The booking went through and the money was taken from my card. The next day I realised I had not received a confirmation email and emailed to seek clarity.

On the morning of my booking I received an email to say my booking was cancelled due to technical issues and I would receive a full refund. I am still waiting for the refund!

Car hire provided was OK - however they do not pay cashback if you use one of the cashback sites. I used TopCashback and they offered 12% cashback- utter con! No cashback after 8 months! Complained and fobbed off from a no reply email address. I’d never use them again and would not recommend I am afraid.

Is anyone hired them recently? There are a lot of bad reviews.

I cannot even give even a single star. Booked 1 month before travel..confirmed reservation and when in front of the desk..unable to entertain the reference number..too hassle. Terrible experience...if this can help other customer..definitely will not use the site..

Bad experience , they don t give me the car , my document disapierd, were stolen and they don t return me the money

I hired a car from girona airport to visit family in France. I read t&c very carefully re cross border conditions,also stated these details on booking form. Consequently received booking voucher by email,all appeared fine. On arrival in girona went to europcar office as directed only to be told I couldn't have a car as I was going into France. Now stuck at airport with no transport. I explained all to assistant only to be told to email care hire market. As you can imagine time was going on and obviously no reply. Ended up with a car from europcar,surprise suprise, at triple the cost. NOT HAPPY!!!!! A couple of days later received email from customer services stating that they would look into the matter but would take some time. Now several weeks later and a lot poorer back home I received a reply stating that they will not refund me because I didn't have correct paperwork at time of pick up, this is an absolute lie on their behalf as I produced the hire voucher,driving licence and credit card when I attempted to collect my ordered car. I can onl say that the company are total con merchants and clearly have no perception of customer service. I advise anybody wishing to hire a car to avoid this company at all costs!!!!!

I found this company through Quidco.com, I booked a car hire and I tried to cancel 2 days before car pick-up, this had to be done by email only, it is impossible to speak to a human, they don't publish their phone numbers. I received an email to say that my credit card will be charged for cancellation fee when their website states that no cancellation fee will be charged if cancelled 24 hours before. AVOID like the PLAGUE.

I was given a quote on the website, paid the full amount and trusted it at face value. What a mistake!! I now have an additional pending direct debit of £211.85 despite the fact that the car was returned in pristine order and have been informed by the sales staff, whose first language was not English, that I can only complain via an email address which is incorrect so a very disappointing response. How can 'Thrifty' etc align themselves with this dodgy company who use such 'sharp practise'?? I am still fighting this in conjunction with my bank so if I receive a refund I will post details.

I can't see what the other reviewer were talking about. The booking and payment were without problems and the service at the station in Capetown was also totally fine. Maybe it's the old problem that people are only writing a review when something is wrong...

Dec 2013 Hired a car for a holiday in Australia. Had it all confirmed and then on the day that I was due to leave they inexplicably cancelled the booking! After a number of frantic phone calls to their 'Customer service' they blamed the cancellation on 'technical' issues. They then offered to re-book the car but at a greatly inflated price - I declined and made a booking elsewhere, but again at a much higher price. They offered me a£20 voucher for the inconvenience! Guess what - I shall be using the voucher next time I need to use a Public Convenience.
Dreadful customer care and lack of understanding. If your trip is important and you don't want to be let down then look elsewhere

I read some of the reviews here and understand that renting a car can be a tricky operation. Mostly because of the car renters themselves, they make it confusing so that the customer pays as much as possible for peace of mind. I know this because I work in the industry!!
In many cases that I read here, I can tell that the customer did not pay close attention and, unfortunately, we have to. Nature of the beast, I am afraid.

But when it comes to the website, I had no doubt which to use before landing in Gatwick. CHM is right now the best in the market, hands down. It has a clear user experience design, the purchase flow is easy, their offers are excellent, their ancillary products the best and my experience with customer service has been, so far, spotless.

That´s the reason why when friends ask me what to use, I send them here. Any of the other aggregator sites will make things way more complicated, I know this well.
CHM uses some of the best rental agencies in the world, but they have no control if they are still pushy, sometimes even shoddy in their dealings.
Don´t kill the messenger, type of thing.

I will continue using, for sure.

When I complained about 2 hidden extra charges (not mentioned on their website's Search Results page, but added later AFTER I'd booked and paid), this company sent me a doctored copy of my prepaid Reservation Voucher showing both charges and, in effect, rebuked me for not having read and checked the small print. They didn't realise that I'd kept a copy of the original that gets handed in at the rental desk (see my separate review of Sixt, Cyprus). Carhiremarket (based in Hamburg) didn't reply when I e-mailed them back the earlier copy, surprise, surprise!! They also took payment from my credit card over 6 months before the rental started, despite saying nothing would be debited until the reservation had been completed. Liars and deceivers - beware!

There are tonnes of car hire places about and comparing them is a bit of a minefield. I've tried some aggregators before but they're clunky to say the least. Carhiremarket did a better job than most and as a result this was the third time I've used it. Having said that, the price you get often includes a very high insurance excess, in this instance £600, which I paid an additional £47 on pick up to reduce to something less eyewatering.

I had never hired a car but had heard some horror stories of others experiences so was a little apprehensive. Carhiremarket was easy to use, we had a great deal and found the staff really helpful when I went to collect and drop off.
I wouldn't hesitate to use again, just remember to take both parts of your driving license - I didn't know and some branches charge to check for endorsements

We booked through their website and added additional driver, excess cover and received confirmation of a 6 seater car for 320€. On arriving at the airport, the true cost was 590€.

Two days later, I got an email from an external insurance company, advising my excess cover was in place and to refuse the car hire companies excess cover, cost £35 more!!!

Carhiremarket tell me it's my fault and nothing will be refunded, not to mention they gave my credit card details to a 3rd party which I didn't agree!!!

I will never use them again and will check and book direct in the future.
