Very disappointing experience – be cautious before leaving a deposit
Terrible experience
I recently paid a $500 deposit to Base Camp Caravans (trading as TOYZ WA PTY LTD) for a Pro RV Panther caravan, after being told I could pay in stages and the van would be held. I made it clear up front that I needed a few weeks to finalise payment, and this arrangement was accepted in writing.
However, after paying the initial deposit, I was told the van would still be advertised and could be sold to someone else — meaning the deposit held nothing. Despite requesting a formal contract and spec sheet multiple times, none were ever provided. When I asked for a refund due to these issues, I was refused.
To make matters worse, after leaving a fair and truthful review about my experience, I was threatened with having my employer contacted — a completely inappropriate and unprofessional response to genuine consumer feedback.
I’ve since issued formal legal correspondence and will be escalating this matter through the appropriate legal and consumer protection channels.
Be very cautious before dealing with this business. Get everything in writing before handing over money — and make sure you know exactly what your deposit does or doesn’t cover.
