We hired a car from Bargain Rental Cars at Hamilton airport. The service and the car were terrific. Toyota Aqua Hybrid was easy to drive, reliable and economical. Ten days of easy driving, between Taupo and Orewa all went very well and we want to do it again.

Simplest car rental I have ever had
From initial search to pickup and return couldn't have been a simpler process, having rented in Australia the UK and Europe, and having to jump through hoops to meet rental company policy hurdles dealing with BRC was a simple transaction and customer based experience. Highly Recommend

This was my second time booking with…
This was my second time booking with BCR Silverdale.
At the time of booking I was unable to confirm a car in the category I required. I booked a larger vehicle so I wouldn’t be without transport. On collection Whistler at the Silverdale office managed to swap vehicles around so I could have a smaller car. I was very grateful for him doing this as I was visiting my elderly mother and wouldn’t have been able to drive it up to her home due to size of entrance.
Staff very pleasant and a pleasure dealing with them.
Car was great and no issues. Clean and economical.
Will continue to use BCR for future trips to NZ. 😊

Highly recommend Bargain Rental Cars

Do Not Trust!!!
Booked a car as the page said I wouldn’t be charged until pick up. Immediately charged my card. I cancelled immediately and then they claimed it was 30 days until I’d receive my refund. I told them their page said I wouldn’t be charged and to refund immediately. They declined. I told them I’d give them a 1 star review and here it is. I’ll never use them again. Went to Ezy rental, better cars and not charged until picked up.

Hamiiton BRC New Zealand surprised me with their professionalism, attention to detail and the service they supplied. I was met at the airport on arrival and was returned promptly at the rental completion. Additionally I was provided an upgraded vehicle. Highly recommed.

BRC (HireAce) cancellation for no reason?
I had a confirmed booking for a 2 week 'Commuter Super Saver' car hire, Feb 2026, pick-up Henderson, Auckland, booked 2 weeks in advance.
BRC/HireAce then cancelled my booking 3 days before pickup, with no explanation.
I then re-booked a more expensive vehicle as the vehicle I wanted was not available, and waited hours for a confirmation email, (online it was showing available), The confirmation email never came???
I then called their office and they informed me the new booking vehicle was also not available even after showing available online.
I advise, STAY CLEAR of BRC and HireAce (their parent company.
They are cheap, but 101% Un-Reliable.

Good experience from pick up tio drop…
Good experience from pick up to drop off. Staff at Wellington city branch helpful and explained car operation thoroughly. Took out platinum insurance which I felt was at a reasonable cost compared to some companies. Car was a Toyota Aqua, it was clean tidy and ran well, very economical too. Will definitely use BCR again on next trip.

Good car rental company
The experience was nice, and it's a great car rental company.
I made modifications to my booking and the staff was always very friendly and accommodating, I'd greatly recommend renting with BRC just for that, all the people I talked to are really great.
I removed a star because of two reasons:
- Cars are quite old, which I knew about because I read the reviews before renting, but still I would have liked a newer car. My own car at home is way older than the one I rented, but it's not a rental, and rentals tends to age a lot more than normal cars. Let me be perfectly clear: the car was not damaged, smelly, broken, dangerous, dirty or anything like that, it was just old.
- They "upgraded" me with a larger car, and it was obvious for them that I had no reason to complain because, for car rental companies "bigger car" = "upgrade". This is not limited to BRC, or even NZ, it's a worldwide / industry wide issue. Bigger cars use more gas, are harder to park, harder to drive. I wish car rental companies would commit to a specific model of a specific brand, and wouldn't do the "or similar" or the "we upgraded you" trick. In 25 years of renting cars, I've only seen one single company in one country (Iceland) that committed to giving you a specific model, I wish they would all do that.. In that case I had taken a lot of time choosing the specific car I picked not because of budget, but because it was what I liked to drive, and didn't have what I wanted.

Excellent experience!
Excellent company! I was initially slightly disappointed when I booked, as I wanted to change a couple of things and couldn’t actually talk to anyone. However, the online help desk was very helpful and got back to me straight away. The car I had was in really good condition and we had a great time driving across the North island. ALL of the staff that I met were extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely book again! 😊
