Sean in Asilia Africa is pretty good.
Asilia Africa contacted me after I posted my review. They explained that the agent, Jessica, we had initially been working with was leaving the company just as we started planning our trip, and unfortunately, she departed without updating the company on our booking status.
After that incident, we briefly spoke with another safari company, but Asilia promptly assigned Sean to assist us. Sean was very helpful, and in the end, we decided to continue planning our trip with Asilia.
terrible planning service
I engaged Asilia Africa to plan a September 2026 East Africa migration safari on Dec. 7, 2025. Jessica introduced herself as my dedicated specialist. I provided detailed requirements for a 13-day luxury itinerary, specified preferred camps, and indicated a budget of approximately $20,000 to $25,000 per person.
From the outset, communication was slow because of the holiday season. Jessica requested a scheduled Zoom meeting with my travel companion and me, so we could move the planning forward. On Jan. 29, 2026, during the call, Jessica assured us that a customized itinerary would be sent the following day. It has now been 4 weeks, and we have received neither the promised itinerary nor any follow-up communication.
For a trip of this scale and price point, timely communication and follow-through are basic expectations. A luxury safari requires careful planning and trust in the operator. Unfortunately, this experience demonstrated a lack of responsiveness and reliability that would give any discerning traveller pause.
Prospective clients planning high-end travel may wish to carefully consider whether this level of service meets their expectations.
I just returned from a safari in Tanzania
I just returned from a
10 day safari in Tanzania. It was amazing!!
Asilia co. was great. The guides were perfect. The vehicles were sturdy and safe. Elissa was our first guide for 5 days in the Terengire. So knowledgeable, kind, and took great care of me. Especially when I was kinda ill one day.
The guides in the Serengeti were great as well. Ibby and Toby. Toby was training and was doing a fabulous job. they all were attentive to our every need.
Please try to reach out to them and let them know how much we enjoyed them.
Elissa was my favorite!!
The trip was wonderful and would love to return one day. Nancy Holland
I booked my holiday with Audley Travel
I booked my holiday with Audley Travel, but Asilia was the safari part. I had the most amazing driver/guide, Stephan, who knew everything there was to know and see. All my questions were answered and he knew exactly where to take me to see the animals I wanted to see. He was kind, considerate, respectful and made me feel safe.
Asilia Usangu Camp - Unforgettable Adventure
Me and my wife stayed at Asilia's Usangu camp in Ruaha National Park, a few weeks back. Everything from our pick up by the guide to the final day at the camp was filled with adventures, great food, and attention to detail by the Asilia staff. Our guide was really knowledgable and took as around on daytime, nighttime, and walking safaris, each of them offered a new experience! We also did fly camping, which is essentially staying out in the wild in a tent called starcube, this offers stargazing straight from your bed. Other highlights were boat ride in a hippo and crocodile pool, brunches and dinners under an ancient baobab tree, it was unforgettable! This camp offers a very up close and intimate immersion with the environment and wildlife - without the crowds.
We went to Asilia camps in Ngorongoro…
We went to Asilia camps in Ngorongoro and Serengeti of Tanzania Oct 18 to Oct 31. All Tanzania employees and the camps were great. Safari guides were also outstanding.
Since we paid quite a bit extra to go with Asilia, I expected expert planning. Most items discussed on the phone was not what we expected.
The flights were poorly coordinated.
The cost breakdown was so general to be unhelpful. Everyone in Tanzania was aware of potential unrest. But this never came up with my US travel guide.
I would consider Asilia properties in the future thru an independent company. But I would get a clear cost breakdown, make sure to fully understand domestic and international flight coordination, and where all camps are located.
Asilia Northern Tanzania
Bucket list, dream come true, life-changing...are all understating my experience! Thinking about this trip will forever bring joyful and thankful tears.
I've had the privilege to visit Asilia's Sayari, The Highlands, and Oliver's camps. From the first moment I was in the exceptional hands of Asilia's care (airport arrivals), to the very last (and sad) goodbye wave, I was taken care of.
Every welcome song, passionate, friendly and caring staff, always delicious meals, beautiful rooms and relaxing spaces, experienced and knowledgeable guides, breathtaking locations, every single detail, big and small, made this a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The one I will forever treasure and dream about returning to.
Thank you, Asilia!
Asilia Kenyan Camps
I had the incredible opportunity to stay at several of Asilia’s Kenyan camps, Encounter Mara, Naboisho, Rekero, and Ol Pejeta, and each one was truly exceptional in its own way. From the moment I arrived, I felt genuinely cared for and welcomed as part of the Asilia family.
The staff across all the camps went above and beyond to make every moment special, always warm, attentive, and passionate about what they do.
One of the absolute highlights of my trip was experiencing a hot air balloon safari over the Maasai Mara. Seeing elephants, giraffes, and herds of wildebeest from the sky gave me a whole new perspective of this incredible landscape.
The food was consistently excellent, the rooms beautifully appointed, and the overall experience seamlessly organised.
There is a magic to Olakira Migration…
There is a magic to Olakira Migration camp that I had not expected - a mobile camp that was set up just a few days before we arrived and will move again at the end of the season to reduce impact on the land, wow! The people of Asilia are what make it though - professional, friendly, knowledgeable and more.
Selous and Ruaha National Parks.
Selous and Ruaha National Parks.
It was the most extraordinary experience we have ever had in our lives. We enjoyed both lodges very much; the staff took excellent care of us, and the guides provided us all the information and help we needed during the game drives. It is a great idea to combine both parks because they are very different and complement each other well.
We loved the outdoor shower at Roho ya Selous. The infinity pool at Jabali Ridge was unbelievable.
We saw the elephants from the balcony of the room just a couple of meters away.
Thank you Asilia for such a memorable experience!
Asilia Roho Ya Selous Camp - Nyerere
Visiting Nyerere National Park, i wasn't sure what to expect. Roho Ya Selous camp was an absolute dream. The tents are huge, with uninterupted 180 degree views and wildlife all around you. The "evening breeze" system was very welcome on a hot day! What really makes this camp stand out is the staff, so warm and welcoming and with incredible attention to detail.
One of my favourite stays in East Africa so far.
Asilia's incredible Jabali ridge Camp.
Asilia, Jabali Ridge Camp,
If you are looking for that special place in Tanzania to escape to, then this is it.
A veritable oasis in the bush, beautifully constructed amidst large boulders and Baobabs on a ridge, the camp is well laid out and offers an intimate experience, with only 8 suites. The generous suites are well spaced for privacy and offer the perfect place to relax, rest and enjoy a book whilst reclining in a hammock. In the mornings you are awakened either by the aroma of a freshly brewed coffee or the call of the wild.
The lodge has a spa, with an incredible therapist, a pool literally perched on the edge of a raised deck, food that is delicious and fresh, safari guides that willingly share their insights and knowledge. All in all an experience that will have you planning your return. You arrive here as guests and leave as friends.
Go! what are you waiting for.
Asilia in Selous and Ruaha
We spent 7 days in two Asilia lodges in Selous and Ruaha National Parks, the service was top quality and as close and personal as it can be. Great in all senses.
Asilia's Kenyan properties
We've been lucky enough to go to Ol Pejeta, Rekero, Encounter Mara and Naboisho and have been struck by Asilia's ability to create genuine an individuality and character in each camp, whilst maintaining a common high set of standards and attention to detail.
The guiding is great, the food fantastic, and (most importantly) the locations are incredible.
We'll be enthusiastic return visitors (please!)
Asilia Oliver's Camp - Absolutely magical - the authentic safari experience I'd always dreamed of
Wow - what an experience. Oliver's is tucked away in the southern part of Tarangire so you really feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, which is exactly what we wanted.
Our tent was lovely, proper safari feel but still comfortable. The outdoor shower is brilliant - bit nerve-wracking at first but you get used to it! We had elephants walking right through camp most evenings which was incredible to watch from our deck.
The game drives were fantastic. Our guide knew every animal track and bird call, really passionate about the area. The walking safari was a highlight - feels completely different being on foot. Night drives too, saw genets and a porcupine which the kids would have loved.
Staff were brilliant throughout, nothing was too much trouble. Food was really good - proper meals, not just tourist food. They did a bush dinner one night which was special.
Would definitely go back. If you want real safari without the crowds, this is the place.
Amazing location
Amazing location, fabulous game viewing and the best customer service I have ever experienced!
Namiri Plains Retreats - wow, what an experience!
Wow, what an experience! I knew going to East Africa was going to be special but I hadn’t realised just how much it would leave a mark. Staying at Namiri Plains Retreats was incredible. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and genuine hospitality. The Retreats are so beautifully designed, with open views and wildlife quite literally on your doorstep. The dining experiences were exceptional, not only thoughtfully set in stunning locations, but of such a high standard. And the guides…so knowledgeable, passionate, and fun to explore with. Thank you Namiri and Asilia for lifetime memories…hoping one day to come back!
Asilia - Rubondo Island Camp
My experience at Rubondo Island Camp surpassed all expectations. Prior to arrival, it was the chimp trekking I was most excited for, but actually it's the complete package of the island experience and the break from safari fatigue it offers that makes this place so amazing. The staff, their service and attention to detail, the food, the beach chalets with their views across Lake Victoria, the variety of activities, and the sense of calm that this camp offers, truly makes it one of the most remarkable destinations I have ever encountered.
Magical Southern Tanzania
Excepetional people - their care, service, and expertise. Such incredible attention to detail and the exceptional knowledge of the guides we had at Roho and Jabili during our stay. Food, accommodation and incredible sightings was a world-class experience. Memories I want to bottle and share with everyone I know. Thank you team Jabali and Roho for a life changing experience
Oliver's Camp - Tarangire
The people, the location of the swamp, and the attention to detail. Oliver's Camp by Asilia is the perfect combination of the magic of the swamp, paired with creature comforts back at camp. Elephants abound and the birdlife are fantastic. I couldn't recommend Asilia any more!
