Truly one of the worst banks I have banked with. They do everything backwards and their customer service is useless. Since having an account with Ameris bank, they have done nothing but be inconvenient.
Donna Lunsford at the McDonough
Donna Lunsford at the McDonough, Ga branch is always so helpful. We have stayed with Ameris Bank even after moving to Ellijay, Ga because of her. I wish all bank employees were like her. As long as she is employed there we will remain with Ameris Bank.
Great Local Service
Banking with Ameris Bank has been extremely positive. After banking with a larger national bank, I have found the local service from Ameris Bank to be refreshing. My banker, Kathy is the best!

whats a Bank for if a payroll check is held for 15 days. this bank is usless
Worst bank I ever been with
Worst bank I ever been with. Currently banking with them and hate it. Looking for a new bank. They are mishandling my money and its hard to track where its going.
Payment methods/transactions
If you have payments return only twice due to fraud or any other issue, they will not take any form of payments over the phone. The only option you have is to mail it in or western union which is another fee. I hate this mortgage company so ready for them to sale it to another bank.
Ameris Bank took over car lease and screwed up
Ameris Bank took over the lease on my car, and I moved to another state they wanted me to pay my balance in full around $2k to get the title sent to the DMV. I paid the car off and they lost my original title and had to send off for a new one, and when I went to trade my car the one, they sent was not the right one and it took me drive 6 hrs to Jackson MS to and back to get the thing straightened out. All i got from them was we are sorry. Avoid using them for loans.
Ameris Bank cleared a fraudulent $50k Check
Ameris Bank cleared a fraudulent
$50,000.00 check, payable to an unknown party and bearing a forged electronic signature, without my authorization or confirmation. This lack of due diligence is unacceptable, especially since the bank applies precautionary measures for small $100 Zelle transactions.
Ameris Bank has provided no official written
communication or final closure on this investigation. My legal counsel's attempts to
obtain an update have been met with silence. I demand an immediate, official written response outlining the final decision on this claim. The failure to provide resolution is appalling.
Very deceptive about fees
Very deceptive about fees, terrible customer service. Exorbitant fees. Worst bank I’ve ever financed with. Save yourself money and a headache and go elsewhere.

Ameris Bank keeps denying my legitimate mobile deposits. My husband and I own a small tree service company. Every penny counts. Our tree clients are repeat clients for the past 20 years. I should be able to mobile deposit their checks without issues.
I'm calling corporate tomorrow and try to figure out what issue is! My husband and I don't understand!! 😡
Refuse to verify a check
They will not verify if they issued a $29,000 cashiers check. In a day and age where people are falsifying anything and everything, it's my job to call an issuing bank to make sure THEY wrote this check, but they will not confirm. I'm not sure how we are to do our due diligence, protecting clients from fraud, if the issuing bank can't even take a few minutes to look at their system to ensure THEY WROTE THE CHECK. Places all over the US do it. Unsure why Ameris feels it's not safe.
deplorable and offensive behavior from an assisstant manager
Came in to deposit an e-check from work at a local Ameris Bank branch located at 790 N Ponce De Leon Blvd in St. Augustine, FL. The teller refused, said they couldn't do, they didn't have the ability, I thought that was strange for a bank not to have the capability to deal with e-checks and be that inconvenient, so when i questioned that, their assistant manager, Sue Ferrell, was nearby and decided to get involved, and just started telling me off, sarcastically asking me "how are we going to print that????", "we don't have the ability to print!" I got irritated with her unprofessional and offensive demeanor and tone of voice, with her incompetence and stupidity, and quickly realized speaking to her was a waste of time and just walked away as she was still yapping at me. I went to another bank I use, Vystar, within 2 minutes they had my check printed and deposited, didn't even bat an eyelash. I came back to the branch to move most of my finances to Vystar and use them from that point on, I attempted to speak to Sue about her inappropriate behavior, but instead of apologizing, she became aggressive, confrontational and provoked me into a verbal altercation. I decided I wanted to close my account instead, and Sue, then, completely lost her mind, yelled for me to "GET OUT!", yelled at me to "SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!", and then started threatening me that if I "didn't shut my mouth, she was going to create me more trouble", and threatened me with police (lol) ...I stood my ground, refusing to leave until I had withdrawn all my money from that bank. I then told her that I will file a complaint with the corporate office, and they will be able to see our conversation and her DEPLORABLE behavior on cameras, she literally laughed at that and shouted "OUR CAMERAS DON'T HAVE MICROPHONES!" That's the explanation for this disgusting woman's behavior, no fear of repercussions, and it's a small local Ameris branch, it's very likely they are all friends, so she'll make sure her co-workers will back up her version of events, so speaking to her superior was going to be pointless. She also actually never validated my identity, as I only had my debit card, she never double-checked with me about the closure of my account, didn't get any signatures, instead, she became vindictive, took my debit card from a banker, ran off into her office and closed my account on her own. I was disrespected, verbally assaulted, and offended by the assistant manager, Sue Ferrell, at this branch, and I'm appalled that a vile trash like this woman, who allows herself to behave so reprehensibly towards people, has no control over herself, can be allowed to work and represent a bank, and hold a manager's position!! She should be medicated and locked up in a straight jacket instead.
Ameris Bank
Ameris Bank. Stay Away!
We have been doing business with Ameris Bank for over 29 years! We’ve never once had any fraudulent activity with our accounts at all within that timeframe. That all changed, and the bank then treated us terribly!
Recently, two fraudulent transactions appeared in our online banking. Each was over $7,000. Both transactions were extremely suspicious, and the bank should have easily caught them: 1) They were posted as Bill Pay which we have never used. 2) The transactions were posted at odd times of the day, approximately 3 a.m. in the morning. 3) Both large transactions were posted a day apart, two days in a row. 4) The transactions were both to Apple Pay, which we’ve never used. 5) Both were in amounts we had never paid out, and also never in two days in a row.
One of these circumstances should have been a RED FLAG to the bank. We had 5 red flags! The bank should have caught this immediately and flagged them as possible fraudulent transactions. They did not! I am not sure what their security measures and protocol are, but they should have caught these fraudulent transactions.
We contacted the bank immediately when we noticed these transactions, in fact it was on the day the second fraudulent transaction was going through. We talked to Michele Johnson, the Branch Manager of the Roswell, Crabapple location. She assured us that she’d stop the second transaction from going through and that she’d report the first one so that we could get our money back. She said, “don’t worry about this, we’ll get through this.” She came back a couple days later and said she wasn’t able to stop the second transaction from going through.
The bank did their “Investigation,” without gathering any information whatsoever from us. It was a one-sided investigation. Ten days later we received a “Notice of Final Determination” letter from Ameris Bank, informing us that these fraudulent transactions were our fault and they were not going to refund our money.
The letter then stated that we could request “copies of the documents that were relied on to make their determination”. We requested to see these documents. We called Michele Johnson asking her several times for the documents. She did not return our calls. She had her regional SVP Sam Crowe call us instead. We asked him for the documents they based their decision on and he said he’d email them to us. After several more phone calls, texts and emails to Sam he still did not provide the documents we asked for. We also called back Michele Johnson again asking her for the documents and she said she’d have someone contact us. At this point it had now been over two weeks since they wrote the letter denying our funds and we were still unable to get any information from them that would indicate why they refused to refund our money!
After getting nowhere and getting the runaround from everyone we spoke to, we told Michele Johnson we wanted to file a formal complaint with the bank. She said she’d have someone call us to process our complaint. We received no call or contact from the bank. We emailed her two additional times within a three-week timeframe to have someone contact us. We received no response from her whatsoever. And no one from the bank contacted us at all!
Ameris Bank has an obligation to provide documents to its customers that it relied on to determine refusal of a refund for a fraudulent transaction… and within a timely manner. Ameris Bank also has an obligation to provide its customers with security measures that will protect the funds entrusted to the bank. However, in the end, Ameris Bank laid the blame on us for the fraudulent transaction and takes no responsibility whatsoever.
After doing business with the bank for 29 years, this is how they treat us! Buyer beware! This bank has no concern for you as a person, a human being or even a customer. You’re just another dollar sign in their eyes. Stay away… and run far, far away from this bank!!

Title: 15 Months of Delays, Vague Denials, and No Accountability
I had a deeply disappointing experience with Ameris Bank during a 15+ month attempt to refinance my primary residence. Despite full cooperation, repeated document submissions, and even receiving an initial approval, Ameris ultimately denied my request without any transparency or clear reasoning.
They cited vague terms like “global debt coverage” (which applies to business loans, not personal mortgages) and used SBA-related logic to justify denying a personal home refinance. When I requested clarification and underwriting documentation, EVP James LaHaise responded that they would “not be providing any additional information.” No explanation, no transparency, no accountability.
I’ve filed a formal complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and California regulators, and I’ve notified HOTWORX Corporate (as I was the one who originally introduced Ameris through a franchise partnership). Their refusal to act professionally has not only delayed my ability to refinance but also damaged trust across multiple stakeholders.
If you’re considering Ameris Bank for personal or franchise lending — proceed with caution. They do not operate with the level of professionalism or consumer care expected from a regulated financial institution.
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service. After 15 years customer. I was robbed and they dispute charges,,,,,after they notified me of fraudulent activity
As of today I have not received replacement debit card, almost a month after incident. I noted other customers remarks regarding inability to use cards in Europe, despite notifying Ameris prior to trip. In the process of switching to another bank. Should have done sooner.
Bank that ruins vacation
I contacted the bank yesterday to make sure they do not decline my card during travel. I went to purchase items today and my card was declined. I will be closing my bank account ASAP upon arrival home. This is the 2nd trip Ameris Bank has ruined my trip. I’ve been with Ameris bank for over 10 years. I am fed up. I will go to Bank of America where they have customer service 24/7.
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars I would. I have a client looking to purchase a home. The client is a more than well qualified buyer. Needless to say the loan officer hasn't been proactive until a foot was stuck in his ass. The underwriter is slow and keeps asking for things he already has. I will never ever refer a client to ameris bank.
Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible. In 2025, why is my pay check held for over 7 days. There aren't many folks out there that could live without their paycheck for over a week. I'm lucky because I budget out but this is absurd. I was banking with MoneyLion and they deposited my paycheck instantly, through mobile banking. Yet a big bank has held my money hostage for 7 days. Once I get my new account open with my local credit union, I'll never use you again. I have you idiots a chance but all I get is excuses. Excuses don't pay bills. If I had an emergency right now, I'm screwed. I'm 40 years old and never in my life had a paycheck held for 7 days. Ive deposited 5k in a personal check into an ATM in 2001 and it was in my account at the end of the day. Yet in 2025 you can't process my UKG backed paycheck? Yea, that's retarded.
***Update**** 6/24/2025
My money is still not in my account. 11 days waiting on my pay check. This is ridiculous.
NEVER EVER EVER USE AMERIS BANK IF YOU…
NEVER EVER EVER USE AMERIS BANK IF YOU HAVE A BUSINESS ACCOUNT: On December 4, 2024, my business account was impacted by one unauthorized transaction, along with several others that were declined. The bank contacted me to confirm whether I had authorized these transactions, which I had not. They immediately deactivated my debit card and instructed me to contact the bank directly.
When I did, I was informed that they had until January 4, 2025, to complete their investigation and determine if Walmart would return the funds. This raised immediate concerns for me, as I know my debit card is protected under Visa's Zero Liability Policy. According to this policy, cardholders are not held responsible for unauthorized charges made with their account or account information, except in specific cases such as certain commercial cards, anonymous prepaid cards, or transactions not processed by Visa. Why in the world would Walmart be the one to decide whether my funds are returned, especially when this was a Visa card, and Visa guarantees my protection against unauthorized charges?
As of today, January 23, 2025, my funds have still not been returned. I have repeatedly expressed to the bank that this delay is unacceptable. Most recently, they informed me that they now have until March 4, 2025, to resolve the issue and return my funds.
