Daylight robbery

Daylight robbery

I attended UPMC this morning for a consultants appointment with Dr. Colm Mc Carthy. I was called in by his assistant who triaged me and asked me some questions etc. We spent approx 15-20 mins discussing the reason why i was attending the clinic. He was polite, friendly and professional. We then waited for Dr. Colm Mc Carthy to come in and sign off on me. He came in, did not give me much information on my injury or my scan.
His assistant then brought me back to the reception desk where i was charged €275 for my brief encounter with said consultant.

DENY! DENY! DENY!

Every drug I have tried to get umpc to consider, they DENY. Don't go with umpc if you take prescription drugs, they won't cover them.No matter how long you've been taking them previously

Horrible care

We are new to the area, my wife is trying to find a primary care doctor. Meanwhile she hurt her knee (torn miniscus, maybe)

We went to Urgent care in Charleston WV. She works at CAMC, and we will go to the Urgent care in Nitro WV (CAMC) from now on . I don't think it could be worse than this was.

It was not busy. She saw a doctor, who was more about getting her out of there than really doing anything. This is fine, it happens. We were told the prescription was sent to Kroger, down the street, be about 20-30 minutes. We go to Kroger. 35 minutes later, there is no script. We called back to the clinic, and this of course took 15 minutes, and while we are waiting, we get a call from CVS, in the other direction, that our script is ready.

We go to CVS (another story entirely) and they have no record of us. We played the voicemail CVS left, and they poked around, helping others while we waited another 15-20 minutes, then when they got back around to us after a few phone calls (Phone calls?) there is nothing for us.

We go back to the clinic, this is 80 minutes since we left the clinic. We ask the receptionist who told use to wait. Later she comes out with a screen print of the cancelled prescription (unsigned) for CVS and told us we can go to any pharmacy we want.

SO now they think we are stupid too! It just keeps getting better.

We asked about the note on the paper that it was expired, and after some hmm-ing and hahhh-ing she goes back and talks to the doctor who said he will phone it in. (Is this why we need more technology? So we can phone things in like SouthWest Airlines was doing instead of using computers?),. We chose Walgreens.

We go to Walgreens, also down the same street, and I asked the pharmacist if they could fill the script on the paper. Of course they could not, it was just a printout not an actual prescription as I thought. Anyway, a few minutes later the script was phoned in, and we had our meds after over 2 hours of back and forth after leaving the clinic. None of the stops were more than a few minutes from each other.

We have received medical care in several different states, different hospitals, doctors, and received care in the public domain in Europe where it socialized, which actually is pretty bad.

But hands down this was one of the worst experiences for a doctor visit, and also unimaginably stupid doing a scavenger hunt around town trying to find where our script was sent.

After no one cared UPMC did more then Cared…

After my pharmacy and my doctor made me feel like I was horrible person for being 2 days short of meds. I got in touch with UPMC TELEHEALTH. The doctor there understood that get sometimes things happen ( I've been taking meds for 16 years I don't think it had ever happened before) she understood I wouldn't be going to work, taking a test out doing anything that resembled my normal life. And those things are very important in my journey of starting clean. My regular pharmacy and doctor didn't care if I relapses and died. UOMC TOTALLY UNDERSTOOD.
THANK YOU!

Horrible UPMC Carlisle Urology

Went to UPMC Carlisle Urology. For an enlarged prostate. I am 76 years old. Dr Dussinger said I needed surgery.
We set a date of 12/16/25.
I have severe osteoarthritis and take Diclofenac for inflammation. He told me to stop taking it a week prior to the surgery. Which I did. By the 5th day I could hardly move. By the 6th day I could not stand up and walk. I had two oxycodone pills left over from a shoulder surgery, so I took one and called his office. I told his surgery nurse what was going on with the pain.
I asked for a 2 or 3 day prescription for the Oxy. He refused and told me start back on Diclofenac. So, rather than give a perfectly safe scrip for a couple days of Oxy, he prefered to put me in a position of bleeding excessively in the operating table?? Even if I had agreed, with only one day to go until the surgery it wouldn't have taken effect. It took 5 days to get out of my system. It would have taken 5 days to get back in. We had to cancel because I would not be able to get there. What kind of horrible quack would deny me a surgery I badly need and be willing to put at severe risk of bleeding!!!

Terrible!

I’m not unhappy with my primary provider nor UPMC’s support staff. However, overall UPMC is the worst! Earlier this year my 93 year-old father needed emergency care and the entire experience was a nightmare. My current bad experience is regarding a prescription refill. I made a request on a Monday and by Thursday I never received a response. When I called the office, I was told my primary provider was out that week, but a message would be sent to a doctor who was covering for mine with a priority request. The next day, still no response. I called again and spoke with UPMC’s central call center. This time I was not put through to my doctor’s office. I was put on hold while the call operator spoke with the office. I was given excuses about my doctor being away and that he would return on Monday and then all would be well but they would still try to find a doctor to sign off on my prescription.

After the call ended, I decided to call back and demand to speak to someone in the office directly. I was put through to the office, and I was told that 20 other patients were “screaming” (her words) all week to get their prescriptions renewed. This is absolutely unacceptable UPMC!

Extremely long waiting times

Extremely long waiting times. Extremely unpleasant doctors. It's a hassle just getting a checkup. I'd honestly rather go to Geisinger or somewhere else but this is the closest. If you can, just go elsewhere. Pennsylvanians deserve much better than this.

Vindictive and discourteous

In January I saw the doctor at UMPC Occupational Therapy in Carlisle to discuss my knees. The doctor told me he would not do a knee replacement until I lost 50 lbs. I said that would be hard to do considering the shape my knees are in. He then said he could give me a series of 3 Gel shots that would help. Feeling as though I had no choice I agreed. On January 28, 2025 he gave me the first Gel shot one in each knee. One January 30, 2024 I called the office because I was in excruciating pain. I was told that nothing could be done, put ice on it and it will go away. It didn't and I decided not to get another Gel shot but to see another doctor. I went to another doctor at OIP Carlisle. He reviewed my Xrays and listened to my explanation of pain and set me up for a knee replacement. He also offered me pain meds to help me get thru to the surgery which is scheduled 90 days from the last shot. It was a pleasure dealing with those folks. Here is where an unpleasant, unnecessary took place. I called Ortho at UPMC to cancel the second and all subsequent Gel shots and the clerk told me to hold on while she discussed it with the doctor. I waited till she came back on the line and she then said well the doctor wants me to tell you that "If you change you will have to pay for it all including Knee replacement Cash out of pocket." She was rude and it seems that she was being vindictive and snotty. I simply said OK, good bye. Later I contacted VA, and they were VERY helpful. They instantly sent out a letter authorizing anything I needed to get the knee fixed to include surgery, therapy, whatever would be necessary, and they would pay for my medical needs. I am a 100% disabled Vietnam vet and thankful for the VA.

I've been there multiple times I have…

I've been there multiple times I have been discriminated on humiliated and treated like a bum. I'm homeless trying to get on the right track and the doctors there never listen it's my body and I know what's wrong but they seem to know all the answers. I asked for a x-ray on my right foot the Dr said u had one 6 days ago I've been walking on it all day since and he x-rayed my left foot. So I walked home no boot on leg nothing for pain and now it's really bad can barely walk. The nurses are great and compassionate but these wet behind the ear doctors have no clue.

I honestly wanted to give this company…

I honestly wanted to give this company a better rating but after my last experience I hesitated and this is why. I have a severely disabled daughter who is extremely hard to work with I signed her up with the upmc insurance meaning , That should have been noted on the account and of course it wasn't. she qualified for a credit program to buy food ,and that's where the trouble started. I have to speak for her but they never noted that on the account , they have a three way call policy in place and she is unable to do this making it impossible to help her, during my last call to resolve an issue an agent had asked me if she could mirror my phone I didn'tknow what that was at first , as she had me download a document I later learned I could not send , as she intently had me searching , and keeping me busy as she violated my privacy. . ,I'm drowning in hardship with my daughter and she throws this at me, on top of that we couldn't resolve anything because the device I was using didn't have any fill and sign document software, " also later learned that did not matter " So she was supposed to mail the needed forms , I later find out there was never any record on the account saying she would send it out, and that is supposed to be on the notes in the history section. When I called back to get a form mailed the 2nd rep said someone will call you in the morning, I guess that was to much work for him. I Feel so violated I'm livid over how people are handling personal information and getting away with it everyday...so basically the rep#1 was stalling Me so she could go through my phone while I'm pulling my hair out trying to get some help and the whole time this was going on she never once mentioned to me that because of the hipaa law, documents cannot be filled out online. The next day i called i spoke to rep #3 that was my third attempt to receive the necessary forms and instead i got to hear all about the reps problems and how suddenly this conversation became all about her and her problems, not even sure at this point if i have the forms coming ..There is no safety anywhere.. seems as though there is absolutely so regard for disadvantaged people and higher ups reserve the right to destroy them any way they can. And as far as the hipaa law goes , it allows people that can't fend for themselves to call the shots but the one that actually knows the situation inside and out that should be able to speak up is not allowed to do so. .
