Complete breakdown of care and dangerous lack of communication
This is the worst hospital experience I have ever had. I am under Dr. Adabe in neurology, and due to constant cancellations, I did not see her once during my entire pregnancy.
Because my pregnancy was unplanned, I had to be rushed off Topamax quickly. This triggered severe depression and suicidal thoughts. Despite this high-risk situation, the neurology department and the epilepsy nurses completely ignored my repeated phone calls.
It got so bad that my GP and my maternity team at Oxford Hospital had to constantly call Coventry on my behalf. Oxford was wonderful and eventually had to provide me with a temporary neurologist because Coventry completely abandoned me and inappropriately discharged me from their care.
When I finally saw Dr. Adabe after giving birth, she blamed her absence on personal reasons, but no cover from her team was ever arranged during her absence. To make matters worse, when I complained to the epilepsy nurse about the lack of care, she claimed I had "plenty of appointments," yet absolutely nothing shows up on my NHS app.
This department also failed to spot that my epilepsy was easily operable when I was 17—something a surgeon later pointed out was visible to the naked eye.
If I didn't have a supportive family to watch over me while I was suicidal, something tragic could have happened.
This department is disorganized, unresponsive, and dangerous for high-risk patients.
Poor communication
Staff seem to forget things or fail to pass on messages. My wife on June 26th,in A&E,was nauseous after taking morphine, and was promised anti sickness medication, but none ever arrived. At the end we were left in the waiting room and told to wait for someone to bring her a stick. After we had waited for between 1 and 2 hours I asked a helpful nurse,Davina I think was her name, what was happening and she found we were able to leave and there was no mention anywhere of her getting a stick first.
Coventry walk-in centre
Coventry walk-in centre. Waiting time very long (over 3 hours), when calling names don’t even pronounce it properly or only use first name most of the time. Calling patient once or twice without leaving the entrance door( long waiting area) elder people can’t ear very well. To top it off, people may have the same first name. Waited over 3 hours for an ear infection which needed two minutes with doctors and ear drops prescription. What an utter joke the nhs has become. And when speaking to them very rude and expect politeness and courtesy in return. TRULY what an utter joke.
Your pharmacy is a joke
Your pharmacy is a joke, 2 hour wait to pick up a prescription for a disabled patient. Why can’t you just hand the prescriptions out to be collected at competent pharmacies.
I got to say its been a long time since…
I got to say its been a long time since I had a visit to hospital & now im actually in here & still in here i was admitted on Monday 20th April for my own personal reasons & I must say considering the stress & hard work I seen the staff around me perform absolutely fantastic considering they are treated like dogs & paid poorly , there was an odd few jobsworth lying fools but the better staff made up for their dregs , considering our nhs system has broken because of bad running & no backing these hard working staff deserve better recognition
Permanently disabled from UHCW
Permanently disabled from UHCW. Hit an aterty. No aftercare. I wake in pain and am in pain everyday. I lost my business, relationship, home, car and spent thousands on private treatments and investigations because they refused to hand over notes with a SARs so someone else could pick up the care. I have permanent nerve damage. I barely leave my home. Sometimes I can't walk or go to the toilet properly. I wasnt like this before they hurt me. They keep deleting my reviews but I won't stop telling my story.
They claim to promote openness and…
They claim to promote openness and honesty, yet their actions are completely contradictory. This hospital is deeply concerning. They deny holding certain records that could expose negligence, yet when responding to complaints, they refer back to those very documents—clearly indicating that they do exist.
They also suggest that communicating with families about a patient’s condition, treatment, and clinical concerns is not a priority, which is unacceptable. The lack of senior review, even when a patient presents with critical signs during admission, is extremely worrying. It is evident that staff can recognise when a patient is unresponsive, yet fail to identify clear clinical deterioration over a 24-hour period despite obvious indicators.
I am deeply disappointed and troubled that family members have had to experience care like this during such critical and final moments.
Fantastic maternal service from beginning to end!
I am writing this review as I feel it to the hospital to say thank you for helping deliver our wonderful daughter safetly and with a smile.
We chose to have a daughter at this hospital over Leicester based on the research my wife did. We are very concious that there are severe problems in England with materinity care in the NHS. However, we truly couldn't fault the service at this hospital.
My wife delivered by planned c-section. Every single interaction we had from beginning to end was brilliant and then the operation (before/after) and the 24 hours of care following our daughter's birth was fantastic.
A great big THANK YOU to all of the materinity staff. You were brilliant at every stage. I would only speak in the highest regard for the service we received here.
P.S I have a side dispute with a parking fine - so beware. I decided to note deduct a point here as I'm reviewing the materinity service and not the car park.
Nightmare Fuel
Less than two years ago, in this hospital, I was placed in a small room without any windows or a bathroom, recovering from a serious infection. The hospital staff here essentially threatened to harm me physically and end my life and then threatened to find every single one of my family members, close or distant, and do the same to them. They said that they would make sure the police won't help me, nor would any lawyers or the law.
Why? Over politics that they overheard me talking about, that weren't even directed towards them and didn't even concern them. Stay away from this hospital, I for sure will, because they will still treat you and your loved ones lower than shit even if you're the most politically correct person in their eyes to walk the planet.
On average all it takes for the staff in charge of your health to let you or your loved ones die is to be in a less than perfect mood or feel a little lazy that day.

A and E. Worst ever
On 30th,Tuesday while travelling on train,I had 2 episodes of loss of consciousness. ? Arrhythmia. The ambulance took me to Coventry hospital emergency. They assumed it was due to low sugar and told me to walk to the counter and get registered etc. the nurses did not ask me anything at all. After two hours, triage nurse calls and since I didn't have chest pain, she doesn't think it's arrhythmia. I told them I am a medical doctor and I felt uneasy and had 2 episodes of syncope. Again waited for bloods and ECG. My ECG had changed. Unlike the triage nurse, the phlebotomist listened and said she would ask and add troponins. Later on I came to my brother's place
The hospital calls and says my troponins are high and to come back. As I had no transport I couldn't travel.
Is it normal to make a patient walk around,if you suspect arrhythmia. Wouldn't it be wiser to listen to what the patient says. When he said he was a medical doctor, why was he ignored.
I am really sad about the experience
Why were my complaints ignored.
Patient ignored when in distress
Patient ignored when in distress, incapable of reaching call button.
Bedding wet, hours before changed bedding.
Not checked on regularly.
Not given enough water to drink.
When couldn't eat hospital food, no attempt to give nutrition drink.
Sores not treated.
Pain untreated for an hour.
The neglect was bordering on inhuman.
This happened at different over a period of 2 weeks.

Horrible Staff and Horrible Treatment
Nurse Ms. Catherine Weller was assigned to my son’s case, but I had to specifically request the other nurses whether I can see her and meet her so that I can get the discharge summary. It seemed she was displeased that I had to approach her directly to ask about the discharge summary and its status. When she eventually came to see us, she removed the IV cannula (a permanent access device into a large vein for drawing blood) that my 7 year old son had in place for two days.
About ten minutes later, she returned and said that once a blood sample was taken, we could be discharged. She pricked my son and collected a sample, but returned five minutes later saying the blood had clotted. She pricked him again to take another sample, and I noticed that much of the blood was wasted on her gloves rather than collected in the vial. Again, she returned saying the second sample had clotted.
At this point, a junior doctor, Zakaria Achercouk, attempted to draw blood using injection needle. He failed, causing my son great pain. My son was crying and shouting, yet Zakaria Achercouk insisted he would try again, saying that if he failed this time, we could leave with the discharge report. I repeatedly asked whether the blood could be taken at our follow up appointment the next week, since three samples had already been collected the previous day and we had not yet received those results. My son, in pain, said he could not continue, but Dr. Zakaria Achercouk, aware that we were in a common room with only curtains for privacy, simply shook his head several times to indicate “no.” Despite my son’s distress, Dr. Zakaria Achercouk insisted on another attempt, saying that if he failed, we could leave without the sample. Later, when I received the discharge summary, Dr. Zakaria Achercouk told me that the earlier sample had worked and results were available. Until that moment, I believed his concern was genuine, but looking back, I feel both Dr. Zakaria Achercouk and Nurse Catherine Weller acted irresponsibly and without compassion.
They removed the IV cannula—despite my request not to—when it could have been used to draw blood easily. Instead, they subjected my son to repeated needle pricks and two attempts with a large needle. I cannot imagine them treating their own children this way. This incident revealed their lack of empathy and professionalism, while my son showed resilience in the face of unnecessary suffering.
The discharge summary noted “improvement,” but no test results were shared with me despite repeated requests. On the NHS app, the message was to contact the GP, but the GP directed me back to the NHS. Although NHS staff confirmed that as a parent I am entitled to my minor son’s results, no copy was provided beyond the discharge report.
During our two day hospital stay, we spent long hours unattended and waiting without any clear schedule. My son, usually quiet and calm, even remarked that “they put us here and probably forgot about us.” His condition worsened not from his illness but from the treatment delays and exhaustion.
At 2:30 a.m., we were moved to a different ward, forcing me to wake him and place him in a wheelchair. Throughout the night, he was disturbed every two hours for blood pressure checks, despite not having any blood pressure issues—his condition was a skin problem. These unnecessary procedures, combined with the earlier delays, showed a lack of compassion and consideration for a child’s wellbeing.
I am still after the test reults for the urine and blood samples taken. My son enjoyed the music and the extertainment provided using guitar. I see NHS is trying to imporve the patients experience at NHS but the above incident completely spoiled my son's expereince in the hospital. I have repeatedly asked Dr.Zakaria about the test results on 12/12, but still he was not bothered to prvode test results.
Utterly disgusting
This review is written about a few visits to UCHW. I am sad to say that the treatment my elderly father with dementia was given each time was absolutely horrendous. Left waiting for hours with no explanation given, not offered any drinks or food, left on a trolley with no comfort, the list is endless. I have been left with the conclusion that there is zero point in being brought in as the delay in any treatment would not end in a positive result anyway. A fine example of how broken the NHS is.
Rang up Pharmacy
Rang up Pharmacy on a week day regarding a prescription. I was in a queue so here was me thinking that i'll be waiting all day for someone to answer, this wasn't to be the case within 3 minutes someone picked the phone up and dealt with my inquiry professionally. Thank you.
I have been in and out of the hospital…
I have been in and out of the hospital often and have had amazing care. At one stage I was in the ward for 5 weeks! All the staff form the Professor's and Consultants to Nurses and cleaners are all pleasant, caring and helpful. Highly professional with world class medical care and facilities.. The hospital is also super clean and has a great little shopping mall. M&S saving they day with deicious nibbles.
Fracture clinic is shit
Fracture clinic is shit. No punctuality from staff. Receptionist having friends in for a laugh and joke. It's a shit show of a department. It's useless to apologise if there's no action taken to rectify delays.
Pettiness
Phoned to cancel an appointment that I would be unable to attend due to it's location, and an unreliable public transport system.
UHCW has also cancelled a telephone appointment that was going to be in October, and discharged me without explanation.
