Don’t join the gym. I used to be with DW you in Huddersfield then true gym took it over. They want you to sign up to a 12 month contract with the promise you can freeze free of charge. You can never get a response from customer service. In reality this was my experience. 1/pool too cold to use from me joining in November to February.
2/ showers to cold to use from November to February
3/ Inappropriate and vile language rap music on in the gym on several occasion to which I had to ask for it to be turned off as it’s offensive
5/ Not feeling safe with some of the young males in the pool/ steam room and suffering abuse from them. This is when we could get in the pool from February. This happened on several occasions making me again not really want to use the pool and steam room.
4/ Told on joining in November I could freeze my membership free of charge for the summer. I then get an email in May saying I would be charged £14 per month. I tried to speak to the gym they said there was nothing they could do. I email head office never got a reply.

Not a warning or any sort of notification, but then as the sign on the door says of the now closed club, the staff were unaware as well.
Hopefully cancelled direct debit in time.

Lovely facilities, long opening hours, relaxing pool area, plenty of gym equipment, reasonable rates, and clean. Highly recommended.

Stevenage trugym shut over night without an email to customers, they just put up a post up on facebook. I have paid for a year's membership through GymFlex and have no idea how to get my money back.

Getting out of the contract is expensive and complicated if you cancel direct debit. I wish so would have never chosen this gym. I don’t recommend.

Be careful joining this gym. A bunch of scammers !!!!When you want to cancel the your membership you need to email them one month in advance,which I did. After a confirmation email saying that will be cancelled they did charge me again and they never refund my money. A bunch of scammers. They are better gym out there where you can contact them by phone if need. This gym is all online

Trugym Maidstone went of of business in may this year again no warning so I stopped my direct Debit the company used by Trugym are still hassling me for direct debits and stating that if I do not pay they will pass my debit to a debt collecting agency.

Great Gym. Great staff.

TruGym in maidstone closed, without notification , just came in to gym like any other day to be greeted with this lovely message on the door.. "Maidstone is closing from 18th may 2022, we appreciate all the support members have given however the club has been forced to close for all queries regarding membership please email maidstoneATtrugym.co.uk" They have taken my direct debit the next day .. and im absolutely sure i will not get that money back.. absolute audacity ! why would you not notify any body ? kept it quiet from staff aswell ! beyond me , they have sullied their name.

I joined truGym last week in Maidstone. Went there this afternoon and there was signing stating the gym was forced to close. No warning, no contact via letter or email. Staff members were a mix bag. They definitely must have known about the closure. There were a lot of guys when we went waiting outside. Understandably very angry...!!

I like using a ladies only gym and this seemed to suit me until I went to the gym and it has shut with no warning; I’ve checked both social media and my email. There is a sign on the door which states ‘check opening dates on social media’. In the meantime, they have been taking money out of my account. I’ve requested an email back and a call and have been told a customer representative will be in touch. It has been three weeks and no one has been in touch. There is no number to call and no way to cancel membership which reflects their lack of regard for customers.

UPDATE: No one ever contacted me and I had to contact my bank to cancel the direct debit. After reading about other people’s experiences of TruGym online, it seems this chain often shuts gyms without notice.

It’s hard to believe this is actually a trading company (for now!). Same story as everyone else, closed gym without warning and still waiting a refund, which I assume I’ll never get. The company needs shutting down.

So I worked here (Boston club) as a gym and fitness instructor before it was closed down out of nowhere. No notice was given to anyone, I went into work that morning expecting to take classes and do my usual daily duties, 3 hours into my shift a team of 8 people were there, the place was emptied of all it's equipment and the owner told us that the gym is closed. He then promised all the staff that we would be getting paid for February, this however was a lie and none of the staff have been paid. As far as I'm aware non of the members have received refunds on their memberships either. Their finance company, Harlands, make it difficult for anyone wanting a refund and good luck with getting a reply from any of the owners. I'm sure there will be better gyms in whatever area you are in, so I'd avoid this place just in case they decide to close another club, because no one will be told until it's closed.

I bought a day membership today to check out this gym. It used to be DW Sport which wasn’t too bad. Oh dear what can I say, this gym has only been open a few months so was expecting nice clean gym. They have done nothing with the Pool, Hot Tub and Steam room area. Actually it has deteriorated from when it was DW. The mirrors running along side the pool have all steamed up and parts of the reflective area of some mirrors have gone. The LED lights near the end of the pool are really dim and rust is all along where they are housed. Parts of the ceiling are hanging down and areas have what looks like black mould. The hot tub is still missing all the jets and there are just holes where they should be. No one came and cleaned anywhere while I was there and the hot tub water wasn’t tested too. The mens showers stay on for about 2 seconds after they are pressed. Glad I only did a day pass and in that respect was well worth it as has saved me the monthly fee of joining. It is a shame as I really liked the gym before. While sitting in the hot tub I actually felt quite sad. Oh well. Have to find somewhere else to join.

Trugym Gateshead… Plenty of equipment and never have to wait to get on a machine. Always clean but sometimes have to ask for blue roll on weekends… bit slow to get machines fixed but there’s always an alternative.. the lass that works there weekday afternoons is an excellent example of how gym staff should be, always fills you with motivation and always full of beans (Marie) . Weekends could do with music on a bit louder.Only real downside is weekday afternoons when classes are on, the music they have on for them is far too loud, u can’t hear ya own music coz of this, which is pretty annoying or wud of been 5*

The gym has always been very untidy, with buckets everywhere to catch leaks from the ceiling, and the pool has always felt like a ice plunge bath, we actually couldn't use the pool from October last year until this month as it was so cold and all the staff ever said was "the boilers broke" yet the jacuzzi was warm, when i asked them to explain how this was possible, i just got looked at like i was from a different planet. The clocking in via app system never works so there is often a long cue to get in whilst the staff have to enter everyone manually. The staff are more interested in their weekend plans than their members.

Trugym have recently closed a number of branches (Bromley, Boston, Plymouth and Folkestone) at short notice and staff have lost their jobs without prior warning. Members are then promised refunds on annual contacts which haven't materialised and monthly payments have continued to be taken after the branches have shut. Any attempt to contact head office is ignored.

Any ex-members who have been caught up in this may be able to initiate a chargeback from their bank. If payments were made by credit card or by debit card within the last 3 months your bank should be able to help.

Hopefully it goes without saying that if you join this gym you run a very real risk of losing your money. I'm unable to post links, but if you google 'Trugym Folkestone' or 'Trugym Plymouth' Plymouth Live and Kent Online have published a number of news articles which back up my review.

The pool is excellent. It's warm, and usually quiet and has dimmed mood lighting😍The steam room and jacuzzi are great too but I rarely use them. The showers and changing rooms are always clean and warm. (Hairdryers available, body wash in the showers, £1 lockers that you get back, a private changing room and a disabled changing room) The gym has plenty of equipment and staff are always available, friendly and helpful.
There is upbeat music playing that's not too loud, TVs with different channels with subtitles.
I'm nearly 50 and I feel totally comfortable there as there is a mix of all ages and fitness levels using the gym.
I wouldn't mind if the personal trainers approached me to tell me what they offer as it's something I would consider paying for. I wouldn't approach them as they're working with people when I see them.
There is never a queue for equipment apart from the floor mat area. Maybe they could squeeze in another floor mat area near the gym balls. And maybe something on the wall with ideas for kettle bells and how to use the other equipment as there is a lot that I am not sure how to use. I don't know what they're called either so I can't Google it.🤭This is by no means a bad review, I'm just writing away and realising I could vary my routine with a bit of confidence and knowledge.
The classes are great, but tend to be morning or tea/time evening, and not much early afternoon when I'm free.
Overall I'm very happy with trugym! Great for all ages, shapes and sizes! And parking right outside that's free!!
