Show you what you want to get your money, no after sales service
After having receiving the all clear from the powers that be (wife) I got in contact with transporterland and let them know exactly what I was after, they got back to me and let me know they had a few I might be interested in, so far so good. I tried the 2.5 and the 1.9 T5's and decided that the fuel consumption was better on the 1.9 and signed up for the van with all the prerequisite upgrades (alloys, side steps etc). So first mistake. I tried a 2.5 and 1.9 T5 but I didn't actually drive my van, I asked they said its exactly the same as the one you have driven. (1. make sure you road test the vehicle you are getting from them) as I sat down to sign the paper work the guy down there (owner) came in and said they had made an error on the listing it should be £1000 more (2. I should have told them to stick it at that point) again caught up in the fact HQ had authorised the purchase I wasn't going to let anything stand in the way.
So Van all signed up for and a nervous week driving the part exchange car hoping I don't stuff it into anything and I went to collect my van. they make you sign a sheet to say the works been carried out and off you go, I thought it was a bit smoky but guessed it had been parked up for a while, went into the local garage to fill up and the window didn't go up. I drove back to Transporterland and was told i'd signed the form, I had to kick off a bit and they finally agreed to replace the switch, if I drive back into a garage after 5 miles and somethings wrong just say sorry and put it right, I mentioned the smoke and was told that would clear.
The day after I drove home the wheel nuts in the front wheel worked themselves loose and the if it hadn't been for a locking wheel nut the wheel would have come off, the day before I was driving along the M4 with my 2 children in the car.
I called the number on their site and although they did despatch the correct longer bolts they seemed irritated I had disturbed their Lunch break, sorry to have interrupted you only nearly took out a family, again a sorry or something would really have helped.
The smoke got worse and I ended up having to get a new intercooler (nearly £700), I fully believe they knew exactly what was wrong with the vehicle when I was purchasing it.
If there is anything wrong with your vehicle DO NOT fix it, soon as you do it makes taking it back a lot harder.
I know a lot of this is my own fault, I should have insisted on driving the vehicle I was going to be purchasing and having someone come in with a well rehearsed little scam to bung a grand on a van when they have a "mug" in the hot seat should have set alarm bells ringing. I'm too trusting and they took advantage. A simple mistake of supplying the wrong bolts for an alloy wheel could have killed me and my 2 children, it seems they are more focused on making money than customer satisfaction. Just be aware of that if you purchase and check and double check everything on the vehicle.
