Never Completed My Switch & Under Investigation By OFGEM

I switched to Tomato Energy over 12 weeks ago, completing all the required information including the Direct Debit form. Despite multiple phone calls they have never completed the switch (stating its an issue with the meter). I made a complaint 6 weeks ago and never received an acknowledgement let alone a reply.

Today I saw that OFGEM are taking regulatory action against them and they are not allowed to onboard new customers. "On 13 June 2025 the Authority issued its notice of proposal to confirm the Provisional Order dated 10 April 2025, with modifications, imposed on Tomato Energy Ltd (“Tomato Energy”) on the grounds that Tomato Energy is contravening or is likely to contravene Standard Licence Conditions (“SLCs”) 4A, 4B. 1 and 4B"

My advice is go elsewhere

Constantly improving

Tomato energy are really doing their best to constantly improve. The customer service is significantly improved and their billing is clear and concise. Phone calls are answered quickly and they efficiently deal with queries and concerns.
I’m really impressed with this company and their efforts to shake up the energy market with genuinely competitive prices.

Incompetence, lies, disfunction

See my previous 1 star review for the full story. After months of over-billing, complete incompetence by every person I've had to deal with, and the company having taken payments despite assurances by every employee that the payments had been frozen, I was left with the company owing me hundreds.

On the 2nd June after constant fighting I finally got a credit note from the billing team acknowledging over-payments and issuing credit for the £300+ that I'm owed. It stated the refund would be in my account within 7-14 days.

Well guess what, like everything else they've said, that was a lie. We're now a month later and no refund. I started chasing as soon as the 14 day window was up and once again find myself being ignored. I'm now starting an ombudsman case.

@Tomato Energy, don't you dare have the audacity to reply to this review with the same generic response saying "you've requested details through Trust Pilot" unless you're actually going to do that. You said that last time and it was a lie.

Incompetence at its best

Joined Tomato Energy in February 25 and I have now lost count of the number of times I have had to call and email them. They answer the phone in good time but that’s as far as it goes, no further action is followed up. Promises of call backs never happen.
Yesterday’s conversation went like this:
T.E. - I will look into this and phone you later today
Me. - I’m not going to hold my breath as you have never got back to me.
T.E.- no sir, I promise to call you back today on this number.
Guess what? They never called me back.

Opening meter readings sent twice and confirmed by email completely ignored with some random number being made up and sent to my previous supplier, but sorry there’s nothing we can do about it ‘ your just have to pay twice for the extra 152 units.
Nearly 6 months and only one bill. Numerous phone calls requesting that they send me a bill but still nothing.
Press 5 for debt and billing enquiries but that doesn’t exist, you just get put through to customer service who say they will pass the enquiry on but nothing happens.
You couldn’t make it up.

Dear Tomato Energy, to save time there is no need to go through trustpilot to get my details as per your standard response, here’s my account number 5513825991 and hopefully you will contact me. But I won’t hold my breath.

Best rate going by far

A little bit of difficulty setting up the account, but once in place, it’s the cheapest rate going.
I charge my EV and have 6hrs at night and another 4hrs during the day to charge at cheaper rates. What’s not to like?

Stay well away

I’ve worked in the energy industry for many years and I started employment with this company approximately 2 years ago. Whilst I was employed with them I raised a number of concerns regarding their contracts and practices. I did this via the correct channels and raised my concerns with the head of the HR department Mr Z Ali. I was then sacked from the company and threatened with legal action against me.
There are currently under investigation and rightfully so by OFGEM due to their management and practices.
They are also writing their own reviews on trustpilot, I know this as they were doing this when I was there, don’t you think it is strange that people are writing reviews yet they have been ordered by the regulator ( OFGEM ) to stop taking on new customers.
Please search the bad/ negative reviews and you will see the true representation of this company.
Trust me when I say this but stay away from them

Starting to get rather irritated with…

Starting to get rather irritated with Tomato Energy now. When I first joined, I left quite a good review but actually, this seems like a deeply unserious energy company.

They answer the phone quickly but they always sound like they're annoyed that you called them and they're so rude.

But the main thing is that they're not paying me for my export. I have been using the 5p night rate for as much as I can to get more export at 7p during the day. However, if they won't pay me for it, I've just used extra grid electricity and basically completely wasted my solar.

I should be getting more money than I'm spending at the moment so if they try to charge me for my import but don't pay my export, they're getting nothing out of me!

Licence needs to be revoked

I recently left this company as they appear to fail in every way with the following issues.

1. Incorrect billing.
2. Ignorance of complaints.
3. Promises to come back to the customer within 5 days and nearly 2 months later complaint still not addressed.
4. I switched to an alternative supplier at the beginning of June, yet I have not yet received any communication other than a email today from mywatts, even though Tomato aren't any longer my supplier.

Whilst I can say that talking to someone on the phone promising action to be undertaken by them is one thing, getting it done is another matter. I can well understand why the regulator has suspended this company from taking on any further customers, whilst at the same time, and with my own experience of them to date I couldn't ever recommend them to anyone. I have a unresolved complaint that goes to the Ombudsman on the 29th of this month.

Buyer beware.. scam untrustworthy company!

This is by far the worst company out there. Please do not use this company they are a scam and fraud company. We recently started using them and gave them our meter readings along with a photo of it - after the 2nd month we checked the online portal and the meter reading which they had was really high - we reached out to them and sent a photo of our meter reading showing the discrepancy I was then advised that we would hear back and this credit would be raised. It has been 3 months so far and I have only had one email to say this is being dealt with and I have called up numerous times and the last being today and speaking to aqeeb or Aqib who was unhelpful and said he could not assist and there was no manager available. We have been paying for the last 3 months the bill which is higher than what it should As the reading they have is much higher Than what is on our meter. This is by far the worst company and they do not care about their customers. I urge people do not go with tomato energy and go with much more reputable companies out there.

Beware this is a fraudulent company .

All works

All works, good rates, first bill took a little longer than expected, but since then everything as expected.

Octopus were bad with final bill, changing it delaying it in comparison TE have been great.

I'm writing to express my extreme…

I'm writing to express my extreme frustration and disappointment with Tomato Energy, my current energy supplier. Despite numerous attempts to resolve the issues, I've been met with incompetence and a lack of urgency. The problems I'm experiencing affect three properties, and they include:

1. Delayed bills: I've not received timely bills, making it challenging for me to manage my finances. This has resulted in uncertainty and stress, as I'm unable to accurately plan my expenses. I've had to make assumptions about my energy usage and costs, which has led to budgeting difficulties.

2. Unrefunded payments: I've been waiting for years for refunds that are owed to me, and it's unacceptable that Tomato Energy can't seem to process these payments. I've repeatedly contacted their customer service team, providing all necessary documentation and information, but the issue remains unresolved. This lack of refund has caused me significant financial hardship, as I've been unable to utilize these funds for other essential expenses.

3. Meter issues: I've had issues with meter installation, and Tomato Energy has failed to resolve these problems despite my repeated requests. This has led to inaccurate billing and further financial stress. I've had to spend additional time and effort to rectify these issues, which has been frustrating and demotivating.

Furthermore, I'm also experiencing issues with export charges. Tomato Energy is not paying these charges promptly, and it's taking years to resolve these issues. This lack of payment is causing me significant financial hardship, as I'm unable to benefit from the energy I've generated and exported to the grid.

I've tried to deal with Tomato Energy's customer service team, but they've been unhelpful and unresponsive. I've contacted them multiple times, via phone and email, but my issues remain unresolved. In contrast, British Gas has always been more efficient and easier to deal with. It's clear that Tomato Energy is not capable of managing their customers' accounts effectively.

Given the significant distress and financial hardship caused by Tomato Energy's failures, I believe I should be compensated for the losses I've incurred. Had I not been tied to Tomato Energy, I could have invested my money elsewhere and earned returns. The prolonged delays and lack of resolution have resulted in substantial opportunity costs and financial losses.

I've kept detailed records of all my interactions with Tomato Energy, including dates, times, and details of conversations. I've also documented all correspondence, including emails and letters. I'm willing to provide this documentation to support my complaint.

I urge you to investigate this matter and take necessary actions to resolve the issues I'm experiencing. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the service I'm receiving from Tomato Energy, and I hope that your intervention will bring about a swift resolution.

I have been with Tomato energy for over 6 months and I have not had any issues with using their services or dealing with customer services. I am supplied with cheap electricity reducing my electricity and standing charge considerably. Simple - The best value tariff for EV drivers.

Switch went thought without any issues in sept 2024 , billing and usage 100% correct and I like only being billed for what’s used. Saving a small fortune on the Lifestyle EV tariff.

Tomato energy is the best energy company

Tomato energy is the best company I have been with, get my bills on time, Lifestyle tariff is excellent, my bills are down over 33% compared to Octopus energy, who don’t give a care in the world over there customers, it’s just money, money, money with them At least with Tomato energy they provide a perfect service also they are helpful and caring, may they long continue.
