We bought our 208 GTI with a tyre pressure warning light on and The Taunton Motor Company has such a fantastic after sales service I am compelled to right this review. No expense was spared when they corrected the fault despite the repair being more expensive than expected, they remained proactive in getting the job done. Through out our experience with them they have been first class with their communication with us. If you are considering buying a high quality used car they should be your first port of call.

I can highly recommend this company. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, Dan in particular saw me through the whole process from start to finish and nothing was too much trouble. After driving a manual car for over 30yrs circumstance meant changing to automatic and Dan was brilliant at talking me through everything and guided me through the test drive. I will definitely be continuing with their service going forward for my new car servicing and encourage people to look here for any new car shopping or maintenance.

Disappointing post-sales customer service
About 7 months ago I purchased a quality used car from the Motor Company, which I am still very pleased with. The purchase experience was very pleasant and professional and you could see they prided themselves on excellent customer service, and as they point out, the customer having a great experience.
This has unfortunately not translated to after sales care, which has been a real disappointment.
Firstly, the 3 month in-house warranty proved to be worth nothing when it came to making a claim after a month of owning the vehicle, and I ended up with a bill for £503. Secondly, they fitted the wrong size tyre, which I didn’t notice for some months, which they then replaced, but they refused point blank to even have a conversation about repair work that was now necessary on the alloy wheel (as a result of having a tyre that was too narrow and didn’t allow any protection to the alloy wheel). Finally, the upholstered seats looked immaculate when purchasing the vehicle, but over time have faded to reveal some sort of historic staining/discolouration. Given my experience with points 1 and 2 I have not bothered to raise this with the garage.
I am not a customer who has had a great experience and I will not be using them again to purchase any future cars or to have any other maintenance work completed.
In detail, and to make sure that this review includes all the facts:
Car purchased on 10th November 2021.
The next day I accidentally clipped a small rock/stone at the side of a country road, which left me with a puncture and small ding on alloy. The Motor Company replaced the tyre with a 225 instead of a 255 (so 3cm too narrow!).
During December the car began to make a screeching noise, which the Motor Company investigated a couple of times. They eventually found the ‘convoluted metal hose’ had failed in two places. As I understand it, this would normally be included within the in-house warranty. However, they made the case that this part was broken as a direct result of me clipping the small rock. Having been in the car when it happened, I can confirm this was a ridiculous suggestion – there simply was no impact of any sort. And there was never an adequate answer when I questioned why it would take a month for the screeching to begin if the damage was directly linked. As a good will gesture they discounted some labour costs but I was still left with a bill for £503, which should have been included under the warranty.
During June, I had it pointed out that the tyre the Motor Company had fitted back in November was actually the wrong size (too narrow by 3cm), and this was the reason my alloy wheel was exposed beyond the edge of the tyre. I had incorrectly assumed it was just a slightly different moulding of tyre from a different brand. Anyhow, driving around for 7 months with the alloy exposed had led to scuffing all the way around the alloy wheel. In my view, this was largely a direct result of having the wrong size tyre fitted, which I felt was supported by the lack of any damage on any other alloy wheel, and the fact that it so clearly stuck out further than the tyre. The motor company were prepared to pay for a replacement tyre (which I think was the minimum any garage could get away with, given that they fitted the wrong size tyre) but refused point blank to offer any contribution to the alloy wheel refurb, and refused to look in any detail at the car or allow me to make any representation about it.

Excellent professional sale by Dan. The Vauxhall Zafira Elite was ready as requested to view. Dan explained everything and there was no pressure on us buying it. We actually said we wanted to go home and think about it which we did and then bought it the next day. The handover was made with a wonderful personal touch which was not expected at all and made us feel very special. The car is absolutely fabulous.

Outstanding customer service
I am so pleased to have purchased my Fiat 500 from The Motor Company. Dan and Karl were incredibly welcoming and genuine from start to finish. Dan was very professional, dealt with the part exchange and paperwork efficiently and was not at all pushy. It was so refreshing to be offered such outstanding customer service. The additional paint and upholstery protection was excellent value and although the car was 7 years old, it looked brand new. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and would definitely recommend The Motor Company.

The customer service I received at The Motor Company was excellent. Dan was especially helpful and very professional. I had what I thought was a problem (which turned out to be nothing) with the car I had purchased and I rang Dan to tell him about it. He booked me in the next day at my convenience and sorted the problem within 5 mins. All the staff I came into contact with we’re all very friendly, helpful and couldn’t do enough. Thankyou Dan you certainly went above and beyond to help a damsel in distress. I would definitely recommend The motor company to all my friends and family.
The excellent Car Salesman
Dan first met me and directed me to the Carpet Supplier I needed. I then went back to The Motor Company (Taunton) to look at the cars available. Dan kept in the background but was available when i needed help. Nothing really switched me on, however a couple of days later i looked on the web and found a Fiat Panda, 66 plate, had come in since i looked around. I phoned the company and was put through to Dan and he remembered me and suggested that I call round as soon as possible which i did.
i was shown the car which was low mileage and very clean and serviced regularly.
I explained my circumstances to Dan, in the process of moving to Taunton and was of 'No Fixed Abode' until completion and exchange in a couple of weeks. Dan was not at all fazed by this and sorted out the finance for me, asset rich - cash poor at the moment.
At no time was Dan pushy and i would trust him with my old granny or any body else's for that matter. Dan is the CONSUMATE PROFESSIONAL and a credit to this company and it's a pity that not all car salesmen are as good as him.
