This is an excellent overview of art history. I really appreciated Libby Anson’s feedback on each assignment. She provided thoughtful, constructive and encouraging feedback. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning about art and how it reflects the times in which it was created.

I wanted to do this course to learn more about art and its history and I’m loving it. I’m learning so much more than I anticipated which is giving me so much more appreciation of art throughout all of history. This course has helped me broaden my knowledge and love art not just in the genre I knew but in others I wasn’t quite sure about. Doing it online is easy and the tutor I have is fabulous. She responds quickly when I have questions. Loving it all round!

The program has been incredibly informative and a great way to ease myself into retirement. I have enjoyed each module as they are comprehensive and well-written. I have taken a few trips to see some work illustrated in the modules (The Tate, the Uffizi, Palazzo Doria Pamphilij, the Borghese).
The program has reignited my love of art and art history.
My tutor Libby, has been wonderfully supportive during the nascent stages of my journey and I feel we have developed a very nice long-distance, virtual relationship. She has been prompt and helpful with her comments about my assignments and I have enjoyed having her on my side during the study process.
This is not an easy course. I devoted myself to reading/writing the assignments at one module/month. I think if one were to move more quickly, you wouldn't get the information you need and have the downtime to absorb everything. The assignments are tricky and provoke thought, concentration, and research.
I could never access the materials that were suggested with each module as I live in Canada but there is so much information online and through ordering at my public library system.
I am currently starting Module 11 of 12, I started in January and I think I will miss the time I have devoted to the readings when I finally complete the program.
I am coming away with a great knowledge because of my time investment. I have enjoyed this program very, very much.

I had a great opportunity to progress my knowledge with this History of Art course, which was appropriate to all levels, beginners to advanced. I was able to work at my own pace, with the help just a call away from a very inspirational and knowledgeable teacher. Doing the course took me away from my everyday world and helped me connect with my creativity for days after.

The course is so well structured, allowing students to engage at depth with the subject matter of the various modules.
The presentation of each module is excellent, well thought through with plenty of examples.
I have felt very inspired to undertake my own research and have learned a lot already, although only about half way through the course.
My tutor has been excellent, providing me with prompt feedback and very constructive comments.
I am looking forward to participating in future workshops when they are available.
I would recommend this course to anyone with an interest in art, either for personal enjoyment or further professional development.

Such a pleasure to do this well constructed course. The modules are extremely well written with lots of references and good examples. The assignments are challenging and the tutor reviews very helpful in tackling the next module and improving the student's responses.

I am really glad I decided to enrol on the Art Institute course last year. I have found the course content so interesting and have very much enjoyed learning more about different art movements and especially in the context of political, social and historical events. I have gained an understanding and appreciation of art styles that previously I would have not engaged with and the course has made visits to art galleries so much more meaningful. The modules are well written and well structured and the assignments are sufficiently challenging, encouraging further research and reading. My tutor’s prompt feedback has been extremely helpful and supportive. All in all a very positive experience.

10 modules out of 12 completed of this art course. I thought I would complete in a year but will have taken 2. ( moved house in between ) It is really interesting and definitely quite challenging . The breadth of content is huge but the notes are thorough. However, be up for doing a lot of research. I have learned so much and enjoyed it. Marking very prompt and very helpful. Learned from my tutor too.

I started this course with high expectations but the experience is far greater than I could have hoped for.
The modules are fascinating and produced by experts with deep understanding of their subject. The assignments are taxing and require more reading and discovery in order to complete with highly constructive assessment from the overseeing professor.
I wish I had been able to do this course thirty years ago. It may have changed the direction of my career.

Studying the Art Appreciation Course has significantly enhanced both my professional and personal life. Studying artworks has sharpened my analytical and observational skills, which are crucial in my corporate role for understanding subtle cues during meetings, interviews, and negotiations.

Under my tutor's guidance, I have improved my attention to detail, pattern recognition, and critical thinking. These skills have enhanced my ability to interpret individuals, situations, and cultural contexts more effectively. For instance, analyzing a painting's narrative has improved my recognition of unspoken team dynamics. Furthermore, engaging with art has fostered creative problem-solving, encouraging novel approaches.

I took this course as a way to test my ageing brain
I have always been interested in some genres of art and am an artist specialising in the heritage art form, stone Lithography. The course was constructed on a time basis and as one moves through the different ages and generally you are drawn into the interrelationships between styles. It is a great test of stamina and I am nearing completion. There are certainly areas which I haven't warmed to towards the end and I am looking forward to the debate on what is art.i particularly looking forward to the final module considering British art which has sadly taken a back row to date.

A stimulating delve into the most prominent and significant events and aspects of art history and the individual artists that shaped it. I feel constantly supported through excellent communication with my knowledgeable and inspiring tutor. The modules feel accessible and helpfully interconnected and I have been given a plethora of additional material to digest if I want to research further.

I can’t speak more highly of this course. I am enjoying it immensely. It is interesting, engaging and I have learned so much . The support is amazing. My assignments are marked promptly and the feedback really helpful and constructive .
The course does require hard work and commitment. So glad I have chosen this art history Diploma course .

The authors of the modules have done an excellent job of distilling a plethora of information about each era of Western art history into informative summaries that give the student a useful grounding in the artists and the styles of each period. They include political, economic, and social details that bring the times to life and connect them to the shifts in artistic styles. They have all made a point of discussing the deliberate efforts made over the centuries to exclude women from artistic endeavours and introduce us to the artistic accomplishments and lives of long-forgotten women artists. There is an abundance of illustrations, which the authors make good use of in order to demonstrate their points. The tutor assigned to me has been helpful and responded to my queries in a timely manner. All in all, I find the course to be interesting, informative, well structured, and well managed.

With just 2 modules to go I can confidently say that the course with The Art Institute is one of my best educational choices so far. Not only It allows me to enjoy my visits to galleries and museums more but also walking around my own neighbourhood and being able to recognise architecture styles and designs is so satisfying. Yes, it requires a commitment and a little bit of writing skills but I sit to each assignment empowered and equipped in knowledge of well designed and written modules. It simply makes me feel good about myself.

Very good teaching materials - the modules are written by true experts in their fields. The questions in the assignments are well thought out to make students engage with and beyond the course material. My tutor has been available, marked assignments promptly and very helpful.

I am learning so much from this excellent online course - the modules are well written and signpost further reading & research, the assignments are challenging and consolidate the new learning, feedback has been prompt, encouraging and informative. Very worthwhile!
