I've been using TFX for my U.S. tax filings, and this year's experience has truly reinforced why I chose them in the first place.

As an American living in Ireland who recently became self-employed, my tax situation became significantly more complicated. Between navigating two different tax systems, filing deadlines, and additional reporting requirements, I even considered switching to a tax specialist who worked specifically with Americans living in Ireland.

However, TFX really stepped up. I initially thought I could manage everything through help desk messages, but quickly realized there were too many moving parts and that I needed to speak directly with a tax professional. Even when there were no available consultation appointments on the calendar, the TFX team went out of its way to connect me with an expert who provided excellent guidance.

I especially want to recognize my CPA, who was incredibly patient, thorough, and helpful throughout the entire process. I had a lot of questions, and my CPA consistently took the time to provide detailed, thoughtful responses that helped me understand my options and exactly what I needed to do. I never felt like I was receiving generic answers. It was clear that my CPA genuinely took the time to understand my situation and provide guidance specific to my circumstances.

What could have been an incredibly stressful tax season ended up being a very positive experience because of the support I received.

I went from considering whether I needed a different provider to feeling more confident than ever in my decision to use TFX. I genuinely cannot see myself switching to another tax preparation service.

I had a great experience with TFX. I highly recommend TFX to anyone looking for reliable and professional tax preparation services for expats!

This company is dedicated to sales not tax compliance. I recieved no advice and no assistance trying to do a streamlined submission. The software is very difficult forcing into details which are entirely beyond the scope of the tax process needed. They declined to accept data in a profesioal Excel format saying "oh no, we prefer you do it yourself". Even when the case was stopped through being unhappy with their sales attempts, they still continue to send bots saying how they hope everything was resolved. Dont waste your time.

Big props to Milo for his tireless, detailed follow-up answers to my questions after I had already filed this year's taxes with John Seagren. I mentioned to Milo that I try to overpromise and overdeliver on my job, and he has certainly overdelivered on the technical information in my questions about FATCA/FBAR. I remember that Milo has also done my TFX taxes in previous years, so this man is an all-round fielder--I mean he wasn't making a fee off me this year, but responded with the same level of effort. Ms. Zemelman, you got a good man on your team; reward him!

March 29 I hired them to prepare my 1040 before April 15. Down payment, sent my documents, and then silence. Sent several emails asking if they are going to file tax for me, and each time a form-letter chat bot replied, telling me that April 15 is near and I need to file taxes.

This went on until April 15, when I had given up on them and had stayed up all night filing my own taxes. Then they said they filed for an extension and had finished my taxes, but wouldn't allow me to see even a rough copy to determine if their return was correct.

I asked for a refund, and they finally replied (A human this time) and said they had made no errors and I should pay them.

I really want my money back.

Beware of using this Company. I have used them for 5 years and been satisfied with their service. However they have recently changed their pricing by adding $100 to the basic package which is a 29% increase in price in one year. In addition they have removed a section of work that was previously included and is charging an additional $75 to complete this work. This package is called the “Expanded Income Bundle”. That makes the total increase in price in one year to a 50% increase.

After asking the justification for the increase over and over, all I get is the same company script. Here it is.

The reason TFX charges more for clients with income above $100,000 OR non-wage-related income is due to the increased complexity, compliance requirements, and potential audit risk associated with higher-income returns. Higher income levels often involve additional sources of income such as capital gains, rental properties, self-employment, or foreign investments, each of which requires more detailed reporting, additional forms, and careful tax treatment. The Expanded Income Bundle reflects the additional time, expertise, and scrutiny required to ensure accuracy and compliance with IRS standards. While the Core Package is suitable for simpler returns under $100,000, the pricing tier for the Expanded Income Bundle ensures that clients with more complex financial profiles receive the thorough, tailored service their situation demands.

My circumstances have not changed for the last 5 years. 1. My income is 70% less than $100,000. 2. I had no capital gains. 3. No rental income. 4. No self employment. 5. No foreign investments.

What is the justification for charging for an Expanded Income Bundle? Again, no answer from their “Customer Success” team. What a complete joke that team is. Also their founder, Ines Zemelman, is not obtainable, to speak to or write too, making me wonder how much she is in touch with what is happening in her company.

Having felt that they misrepresented the pricing that I had pre-paid for their basic service, I asked for a full refund of the money on account. They have categorically refused to refund the money, saying the payment is non refundable, even though they broke the contract by changing the pricing I was quoted.

I have found the people I have dealt with to be off hand, and at times bordering on rude. They have no sense of customer care, and obviously have no authority to move from the official “script” for answering questions.
