Terrible Experience Be Warned
Terrible experience. Before you go ahead with Techchef, these are the facts you need to be aware about:
1) Many reviews on google are fake or paid reviews possibly made by the staff. I wanted to try after falling for the reviews and here is my experience.
2) This is a scam company, a con. They will charge Rs.500 to "check" the drive even though it is mentioned on the website that it is free of charge to assess the drive. They will give reasons like they will provide discount later for data recovery and lure you into the trap of paying Rs.500 because they know that you won't accept to pay their quote later. This may be cheap for businesses and companies but this is not at all for individuals.
3) Most drives that are not detected or show problems are very easy to recover. The positive reviews are related to these kind of problems. All it needs is a special data recovery software. You can google it. I have recovered so many drives with it easily. But the common man is not well versed with technology and don't know this secret, so they are scammed into paying huge amounts of money for a silly problem.
4) For simple physical problems, they will tell you that it will take 15 days to recover your data and you have to pay Rs.32000 + GST. They will make you think that you are able to negotiate and reduce 10 percent of that price. It will still cost you an unfair and unreasonable amount of money. You can get 5 TB x 4 drives for that price on amazon.
5) They will tell you that it's very complicated and hard to recover your data and that they do it all in a special place and try to convince you. Do not fall for it.
6) Do your research before consulting companies like these. They don't care about your data, just about money.
