A glimpse of wonder!
3 of them to 7 of us, holiday swimmers. Mayra and Nat in the water & Joao on the boat could not have been kinder or more supportive.
I was not as swim fit as the others but their patience, care. tips and constant emphasis that each of us should enjoy our time with them, with Joao welcoming me with a big smile and praise, as I climbed on to the boat for a little break, dissolved my self imposed pressure. I felt very safe, cared for & encouraged.
By the end of the week, with the genuine warmth, guidance and encouragement of all three, I managed to master my deficiencies, my tension disappeared & I could swim enjoyably with ease ...& keep up!
The facilities, azure seas with colourful fish were exceptional as were the delicious lunches they treated us to....no stone left unturned to ensure we enjoyed a memorable and very special swim holiday.
I doubt that their offering can be topped. Impossible to emulate the happiness and laughter that Mayra exudes as she coralls you into her camera's viewer.
Love of what they do and sheer pride in what Madeira has to offer oozes from them.
An extra mention & praise also for Mayra's & Joao's son, who joined us for the last day trip to the Desertas Islands, is well deserved. We were delightedly encircled by a school of c 20+pilot whales, too many to count, with their young on our return...gentle, peaceful, beautiful wild creatures!
A very special experience all round!

There are some reviews you read with a smile, and then there are those that make you stop for a moment because they remind you of exactly why you do what you do. Yours is one of those.
What you wrote about feeling pressure to keep up, and then slowly letting that pressure go, means so much to me. Swimming should never become a battle against ourselves. Sometimes we simply need someone beside us to say, “Take your time, you’re doing great.” And I’m so happy that, by the end of the week, you found that feeling of ease and confidence in the water. 🌊💙
And I have to smile at your description of João welcoming you onto the boat with his big smile and praise… 😂❤️ That is so completely João! He genuinely celebrates every swimmer, every little achievement, every moment.
Thank you for mentioning Nat and Nayan too. They are such an important part of our SwimMadeira family, and it means so much to all of us when guests recognise the whole team.
And yes… those pilot whales! 🐋🥹 More than 20 of them surrounding us, including their young, was one of those extraordinary ocean moments that none of us could have planned. We were simply incredibly lucky to witness it.
But perhaps the words that touched me most were: “Made a holiday out of swimming.” ❤️
That is exactly what we hope to create. Not just kilometres in the ocean, but a holiday filled with swimming, adventure, beautiful places, delicious food, laughter, learning, friendship and moments you carry home with you.
Thank you for trusting us, for allowing us to be part of your journey, and for embracing Madeira and our little SwimMadeira family with such warmth.

The most spectacular experience!!
The most spectacular experience!!
I cannot recommend ‘Swim Madeira’ camp more highly.
It surpassed all expectations.
We were a group of 7 swimmers with mixed ability, however you would have never realised this as the team at Swim Madeira team catered to everyone’s needs expertly.
Every day was magical, breathtaking scenery and such a personal service.
We were taken to parts of Madeira you would not otherwise get to, and swam in crystal clear waters, teeming with fish of all kinds.
We were lucky enough to sail beside a pod of beautiful Pilot whales on our last day on the return from the stunning Desertas Islands.
Each day we were treated to delicious food and ate in high quality restaurants for lunch. Personal tuition was given to improve stroke and swimming style. We covered impressive distances, however always at a comfortable pace.
Mayra Santos and her family are exceptional hosts, their respect and understanding of this precious environment was always top of the agenda.
This was a truly wonderful holiday, and a unique experience, - all of the group came away feeling they had been part of something very special.
Huge respect for Mayra, João, Nayan, and Natèrcia, for showing us how beautiful Madeira is. 🥰

Fiz o half day tour de natação em águas abertas com a Mayra, no Penedo do Sono, e foi uma experiência incrível. A água era absolutamente cristalina e nadar naquele cenário foi inesquecível. Fizemos uma pausa para um lanche numa baía deserta, o que tornou a experiência ainda mais especial. A Mayra esteve sempre presente, a dar apoio, transmitindo segurança e boa disposição do início ao fim. É super alegre, bem disposta e tem uma energia contagiante. Recomendo esta experiência a qualquer pessoa que goste do mar, independentemente do nível de experiência em águas abertas.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Swim Madeira – more than a swim camp
Swim Madeira is not just a swim camp – it’s an experience that stays with you, in your body and in your heart.
I first came here in October 2025… and the moment I got home, I booked my next trip. And I already know there will be a third, a fourth, and a fifth.
Over 8–9 days we swam around 30 km in the Atlantic, through some of the most breathtaking and varied environments I’ve ever experienced. Crystal clear water, dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, natural pools, remote islands… every day felt like a new chapter.
The conditions change constantly – calm, choppy, currents, swell – and that’s part of what makes it so real. You don’t just swim, you learn to move with the ocean. And somehow, you always feel safe.
That’s because of Mayra and João.
They don’t just guide you – they see you. They challenge you, support you, laugh with you, and create an atmosphere where you can grow, both as a swimmer and as a person. Their knowledge, professionalism and presence in the water is exceptional.
One of the most special things is the feeling of community. You arrive as strangers and leave as part of something bigger – an ocean family. Warmth, laughter, shared effort, long swims side by side… it’s rare and it’s real.
For me, this journey was also personal. Coming back to swims that had challenged me before – and finding strength, rhythm and flow again. That moment when everything clicks… it happened here.
Swimming in places like Ponta de São Lourenço, Garajau Nature Reserve, and even the protected Desertas Islands is simply unforgettable. And sometimes, if you’re lucky – dolphins join you.
I came for the swimming.
I stayed for the feeling.
And I will keep coming back.

Fantastic experience
This experience is hands down the most unforgettable memory of Madeira! Swimming in the open ocean with Swim Madeira was absolutely magical.
My wife and I took the 4-hour guided swim in the Garajau Natural Reserve, and it felt like swimming in a giant aquarium. The ocean was stunning: crystal-clear blue water, abundant fish life, and beautiful underwater topography.
Our guide, a true elite-level swimmer, was exceptional. From the first minute, we felt 100% safe and secure, and instantly connected with her warm, genuine hospitality. I truly felt right at home.
I also have to praise the super-efficient organization: communication was flawless, the GoPro footage was fantastic, and the social media support was top-notch.
I categorically recommend this! If you are a swimmer—regardless of your level—you absolutely cannot miss this experience. It’s an absolute must-do!

Swimming with Mayra - the highlight of my holiday
The highlight of my holiday on Madeira was my swim experience with Mayra! I loved swimming along one of the island's stunning coasts with such an inspirational swimmer, knowing that I was safe all the way. Mayra constantly checked that I was OK. She even noticed before me that I was flagging towards the end and provided me with great drafting opportunities, getting me back to shore in an enjoyable and supported manner. Not only that, but Mayra's infectious enthusiasm and continuous encouragement made this a most memorable experience! Oh, and did I mention the dozens of photos and videos she provided me with afterwards?
If you are an open water swimmer and are visiting Madeira, seeking out SwimMadeira is a must for you!
