One star. Stiebel Eltron hot water unit installed new in my apartment during construction (building completed 2021) failed completely after only ~5 years — well short of the 10–15 year life you’d reasonably expect from a premium brand at this price point.
The worst part was the warranty experience. When the unit died, Stiebel Eltron declined the warranty claim by citing the unit’s 2019 manufacture date, despite it being installed around 2021 as part of a new build. So a unit that ran barely five years in service was ruled out of warranty on a technicality about when it was manufactured, not when it was installed and put into use.
I was left ~$2,400 out of pocket to replace it, with no support from the manufacturer. For a brand that markets itself on German engineering and quality, this was a genuinely disappointing product and an even more disappointing response. Would not buy Stiebel Eltron again and would caution others to check the manufacture date before purchase — you may have less warranty runway than you think.
