Fantastic experience :)

We’ve had a fantastic experience with Spark Tutoring!

The support has been excellent and most importantly, we’ve seen a huge boost in our child’s confidence :)

His tutor really takes the time to listen and understand him, which has made such a difference. Sessions are now something he genuinely enjoys rather than a chore.

We also reached out for additional support in a couple of subjects ahead of GCSEs, and despite it being such a busy time of year, the team made it happen.

DO NOT USE! It was truly one of the worst experiences I have ever had. After the initial conversation it took two weeks to find a tutor, despite finding out that they had a bank of tutors they can use. It did not take them that long to collect the initial payment. Once a tutor was found initially meetings were set up, one happened on schedule and one did not the tutor was unreliable and abroad (despite the company having two weeks to find this out). I had asked for two tutors just to give my child a pre GCSE boost one tutor in History and one tutor for English Language and Literature. I then asked for another tutor in a what’s app message, with the person who I had had the initial meeting with, in that message I had asked a question about finance, she answered that question but did not answer the question about a new tutor. A couple of days later I got a message from an operations person telling me that they were going to sort it out. I impressed upon them how urgent it was as the clock was ticking on my child’s GCSE’s. After a week of messaging her and the original contact. I was told twice that my option was that I could use the unreliable tutor or wait another two weeks for them to find a new tutor, taking the total time to 5 weeks from my initial meeting to us potentially getting a tutor. When I expressed my frustration at this I then had a message from operations telling me that I had never given them permission to get another tutor. I asked 3 times for them to call me, they just didn’t answer my message so refused to action it. Then I was contacted by customer experience! They sent a message to arrange a call, you can not just call or be called by this company you have to schedule the call, it is the most laborious system I have ever used just to set up some tutoring for my child. While all of this going on two things are happening in the background. I am being repeatedly chased for money for tutoring I hadn’t even gotten a tutor for and most importantly in all of this was my child’s reaction. My child was getting more and more anxious about not having the sessions for English, this was causing huge panic and distraction with other subjects. There were so many tears about failing a both language and literature, which is what the tutoring was in. Whilst I understand that exam jitters happen for every child about to do their GCSE’s the whole point of tutoring is to give them a boost of confidence and help reduce the anxiety. This company has done the exact opposite. I now have other tutors in place but have wasted 3 weeks of valuable revision time for my child. When I asked customer support why it took so long for them to find a tutor from a bank of tutors they already had her answer was ‘ we match the tutor to personality of your child’. They have never met my child and I was asked 3 questions about her, so I am at a loss as to how it was going to take 3 weeks to match a tutor to the personality of a child that you have never met and no almost nothing about. I was offered 2 free sessions to make up for the lost time, but unfortunately you cannot make up for the anxiety, upset and loss of focus on other subjects, the customer experience person admitted that they had dropped the ball on this and that the way we had been treated was unacceptable. I have read the companies response to another 1 star review, which included the reminder that the majority of people are having a great experience. Unfortunately if you base your company on the majority reviews and minimise the minority, you will very quickly find that the minority is now your majority. Do not underestimate the power of word of mouth. Friends that I suggest you to, have now looked elsewhere and found other tutors that they have not had to wait 3 weeks for and have not had had to put their child through an anxious time that was totally unnecessary at a time when they need it the least. DO NOT USE this company.

That said, we fully recognise that the subsequent delays and issues you encountered went beyond expectations, and we sincerely apologise for the frustration and impact this had, particularly at such an important time ahead of your daughter’s GCSE's.

We have also noted the delays in communication, and this is being reviewed internally to ensure all parents receive prompt and consistent responses moving forward and we always appreciate the patience during the extremely busy GCSE Exam period.

We understand that you were not satisfied with the initial tutor match. Following this, we did take steps to arrange a replacement as quickly as possible. Our matching process is based not only on academic speciality, but also on the preferences and needs of each child shared during the initial consultation, including any personality considerations, as we aim to ensure students feel comfortable, build rapport, and grow in confidence through their sessions which sometimes does take a little longer as we want to make sure this is accurately matched.

Our Customer Relationships team also reached out to arrange a call at a convenient time, as we are mindful of parents’ busy schedules and aim to avoid contacting you at unsuitable times. A member of the team did speak with you to acknowledge where we fell short, take accountability, and offer solutions to improve the situation.

As part of this, we offered two complimentary sessions to trial a newly matched tutor and help rebuild your daughter’s confidence. We do understand that, in this instance, this was not a suitable resolution for you.

We deeply regret that the overall experience did not meet expectations we hold ourselves to. As requested after our conversation, your support has already been cancelled, with the 2 complimentary History sessions provided as promised.

Increase of 2 grades!

My daughter’s tutor was so lovely, she could really relate to her and she was incredibly supportive. After just a short time my daughter has gone up 2 grades, her confidence has increased and she feels much more positive towards her upcoming exams.

Amazing Tutoring!

My son is 9, he has adhd so struggles in school especially with his English. I was worried how he’d find the tutoring with sparks as he can lose concentration so easily but they’ve been fantastic. He’s allowed movement breaks and in the two sessions he’s had, he’s very excited about what he’s learning. I really feel this is the beginning of a wonderful journey for him. The communication has been excellent, I’ve already got a detailed report about his understanding with creative writing. Just a fantastic service!

Absolutely awful

Absolutely awful! Completely avoid them. They take money very quickly and extremely poor in ever communicating with you again. Still waiting for a session after paying weeks ago.

Very pushy sales from the start & Poor coherence.

Very pushy sales from the start, with a AI bot that will hound you. I had my introduction call with Jordyn (see you tube) to explain my daughters educational and home schooling position, very positive. But from that point, it's been awful. My induction session was not held on the agree time, and there remains a complete mix up between what my support requirements are, what the tutor believes, and what the Ops Team are managing. In trying to resolve and get alignment, the Tutor and Ops Team won't engage direct, which is frustrating. I have no learning syllabus, no indication of how the educational content Spark intends relates to equivalent school years. Meeting invites are dropped last minute, typically 9.30pm the night before without warning. I've had to draw a line under this poor system of organisation, and was directed towards customer support. I selected a call, 12.30 GMT, and got sent a meeting request for a completely different time, and time zone.
Things may change, but I have been a paying customer since February and had nothing but the run around, and lack of coherence across the Spark Team, not ideal when I am trying to protect my Daughters anxieties around Education ahead of her GCSE's.

I would highly recommend Sparks Tutoring. My 15yr old daughter really enjoyed her Spanish sessions with EJ. A brilliant tutor match. My daughter instantly felt as ease and confident to progress with her learning.

Great improvement in maths!

My daughter has shown great improvement in maths since having her tutor, Flo. The teacher has seen the improvement in school and has praised both the improvement in her understanding, but also in her conduct, which I believe is due to Alice feeling more confident in her ability, making her less likely to zone out and misbehave in class. Alice feels comfortable with Flo, I hear them chatting about school and
life, as well as maths. I think this contributes to the improvement in Alice’s maths, as she feels like she’s getting help from an older friend, rather than an out of touch, strict teacher. Thank you!

Good experience

I wanted to say how much my son has genuinely enjoyed working with Ope. He has made lovely progress, particularly in Maths, since starting, and we are really grateful for the patience, understanding, and care she has shown him. As mentioned in our initial conversation, it was so important for us to find someone who could support him in a way that suited his needs, and Ope has been wonderful in that respect.

It’s been lovely to see how much more confident he has become with his times tables and fractions, and he is now able to tackle these areas independently.

Summarising was something he initially found quite challenging, but thanks to the techniques he’s learned during his sessions, he is now able to apply these skills in his English lessons at school, which has been fantastic to see.

My eldest daughter needed help with her…

My eldest daughter needed help with her maths and I didn’t have the time (or the brain power quite honestly 🤭) to help as much as I would have liked. I saw Sparks online and read good things so gave it a go, my initially reluctant daughter absolutely loved it and it has made her so much more confident in maths.
Her tutor is more of a grown up big sister kind of vibe rather than a formal older stern teacher and it WORKS. She’s not intimidated, she’s relaxed and they have fun whilst learning. The lessons are tied in with what they’re learning at school and I can’t tell you how happy i was when my daughter came home from school and said they had just been taught something at school and she knew how to do it because “me and Roxanne done it on our last session”
You can pick your preferred tutor Male or female, times and dates that suit you, all on line and you also get access to community sessions as part of your tutoring package and added to a what’s app with the tutor groups and you get reports on progress . Perfect set up for learning today!

Our daughter (7) is homeschooled and she loves learning. She gets distracted very easily and so, when we try as parents to teach her ourselves it ends in playtime haha. Spark tutoring understood this and went through a process of selecting a tutor that could deal with her distractive mind. It’s been amazing to watch her and Anastasia bond through learning and Marni absolutely loves all of the new things she’s discovering. In science she planted her first seed and it has been growing rapidly. Spark has been a blessing for us and we would advise anyone to get in contact if you’re looking for online tutoring.

After being promised a really stand out…

After being promised a really stand out package of one to ones and group sessions, it’s been one disappointment after the next. Ages to match and set up tutors, the tutor cancelling twice in one week, the group sessions not being the correct exam board, or interactive as promised (we were told a max of 5 students per group but there can be up to 15). Back log of owed sessions, terrible app which has to be opened and closed several times to see any messages. They stopped payments luckily, but don’t believe what they sell you. The one positive was the maths tutor who was assigned, my son liked her but then to be informed now that she’s away for 3 week and we will get a substitute. This would not have been a problem if we had faith that they would find someone suitable and be able to schedule the sessions. I’m most upset as we’re now 4/5 weeks nearer to the exams and nothing consistent and useful has happened. We’ve given chance after chance for it to be resolved.
I signed up after reading about it by an influencer on Instagram. When I tried to comment about the issues we’re having it was removed.
We’re using mytutor for another subject organised by the school and it’s been so much better and easier to manage.
Avoid and don’t believe what they tell you at sign up.

Maths confidence

Our daughter started in Y4 with Shenae to help support her in maths and it’s been a total game changer. We’ve noticed such a big improvement and her teachers have said the same thing so a HUGE thank you to you for your support and endless patience.

Excellent tutoring for young people by young people!

We have had a great experience with our Tutor. My Daughter has had English and Math Tutoring with Louisa, my daughter and I are both very pleased with her progress. Grades have improved by 2 levels but more importantly her confidence has improved hugely, she has really felt that the tutoring has helped her. She tackled her GCSE mocks well with great results and feels she is ready for the GSCEs. Louisa has worked with my daughter on the areas she is struggling with particularly in Maths following feedback from her school parents evening. Louisa is always responsive and ready to help.

Fantastic tutoring service

Our son had already benefitted from Spark tutoring and has successfully passed his 11+/Entrance exam. Our daughter (year 4) has also enjoyed her sessions and her confidence in maths and English has really improved. This week she received an award from school for her maths, something that would not have happened without Spark Tutoring, and Milo's help

Knowledgeable and thorough, highly recommend!

My son had a 4 week intensive tutoring course with Grace for GCSE History ahead of his mock exams. We wanted to focus on application and exam technique as this was the area he was struggling with. I was very impressed with his tutor Grace, she was extremely knowledgeable and thorough throughout and my son really engaged with her. My son went into his mocks with much more confidence and was able to provide more well thought out answers to the higher mark questions. The weekly parent check ins with Grace meant I was kept up to speed throughout the programme. Overall we would highly recommend Grace!
