Stayed in Crown Plaza car Park
Stayed in Crown Plaza car Park, Barnsley as we where staying at the premier Inn Central and the car park is directly below the Premier Inn. We have stayed many times in this car park with no problems but this time it looked like a refuse tip with rubbish every where, Empty beer cans and bottles all over the place. I really did not feel safe leaving the car there over night as it would appear the local homeless/drug community are using it on a regular basis.
If you are running the car park (SIP) and fining people the least you could do is keep it clean and undesirables from holding drinking parties down there.
DO NOT PARK WITH THIS COMPANY.
DO NOT PARK WITH THIS COMPANY.
THEY ARE CROOKS,DRESSED AS A LEGIT PARKING COMPANY.
Recieved a fine, 2 months after parking for £115, a first notice was not posted to me, this aside I paid for the correct parking. As I did not want the hassle I paid, I did write a letter and asked for a refund, as the fine was sent so far after I did not have the option to CONTEST!!!! CROOKS
I parked in Leeds
I parked in Swinegate, Leeds. I paid for 8 hours. Granted, I went over my time limit by 15 minutes. I had a letter sent to me nearly 2 months later fining me £115. I wanted to appeal as it was made clear that it was an overdue payment and I hadnt seen the letter before. They made it impossible to contact and question why on earth I'm getting fined so much for such a minor breach. Absolute joke, don't ever park here.
Unethical Company - SIP Car Park Nelson Street
SIP CAR PARK, NELSON ST, LEICESTER, 18 Dec 2023
Paid in cash and displayed the ticket and was shocked to receive a parking charge notice a week later. Their excuse: 'vehicle not permitted and grace period exceeded'. Well, this was an absolute lie. Thankfully, I hadn't got around to throwing away the ticket yet and I submitted an appeal with a copy of the receipt. I received a reply a couple of days later which read as follows:
"Upon checking our payment database, nothing could be located under the vehicle registration XXXXXX on 18/12/2022, so the charge has been issued correctly. However, upon reviewing the evidence provided by yourself, it shows that you entered the incorrect registration XXXXXX, when purchasing the ticket. As a valid ticket was purchased, on this occasion we are able to reduce the charge down to a £10 administration fee."
Followed by a further email which stated:
"Please be advised this charge was issued correctly, however, as a goodwill gesture to contribute towards the cost of the charge, we will accept an administration fee of £10.00 Please be aware, if you appeal to the IAS, the administration fee will be void.
Please be aware, this admin fee is valid for 14days, starting with the date of this email. If you choose not to accept this, or it is not paid within the time frame, the PCN will continue down the standard recovery method and stand."
Upon checking the ticket, I did notice that I had omitted a letter (maybe I hadn't pressed hard enough for it to register?), however, the registration was clearly mine, I had a valid paid for ticket and they still wanted to charge me an administration fee - shocking practice. Apparently SIP are part of POPLA who have a code of practice that state how keying errors should be treated (see below) and SIP do not even adhere to the code of practice that they have signed up for.
So, IN A NUTSHELL, I HAD A VALID TICKET. Upon appeal with a copy of the ticket they still wanted to charge me an admin fee and if I then submitted a further appeal, that £10 admin fee charge will be null and void and if my appeal is unsuccessful, I will have to pay the full £100 charge. Absolute rip-off and the whole system is stacked against us genuine customers. PLEASE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.
Suffice to say that I have let all my contacts know that even when you purchase a valid ticket, they will exhort money out of you on any pretense.
POPLA code of practice
Q&A: I typed my registration in slightly wrong and I'm being asked to pay a charge. I've already paid for parking and I find this really unfair. Is it necessary to go through all of this to resolve it?
This is called a 'keying error' and it occurs where the motorist is required to enter their vehicle registration into a payment machine or terminal and they make a mistake. The British Parking Association released rules in its new code of practice outlining what parking companies should do where there is evidence of a keying error.
We cannot provide advice on whether you should appeal your charge with us or not. However, for transparency here is a summary of how we consider cases:
Motorists with evidence of a minor keying errors (e.g. one digit incorrect) should have their parking charge notice cancelled by the parking operator during their own internal appeals process. If we see evidence of a minor keying error, we will cancel the charge.
Motorists with evidence of major keying errors (e.g. the whole registration incorrect) should be offered a £20 reduced payment to settle the case during the parking operators appeal process. If the operator has not offered this reduced payment, we will allow the motorist to appeal. If the operator has offered the reduced payment and you choose to appeal anyway, we will refuse the appeal and the operator will expect you to pay the full parking charge amount. You cannot make a decision requiring them to maintain the £20.
I work for a disabled charity
I work for a disabled charity. The place I tried to park in didn't have any disabled bays. In order to provide the right access for the children to access and exit the vehicle I had to park over two normal bays. Disabled badge was on display but I was hit with a parking ticket for being outside marked bays. Tried to appeal to someone at SIPs humanity but I was unsuccessful. I'm tempted to appeal their inhumane decision but if that fails the fine goes up to £100. Outrageous.
