I really wanted to love this small, female-led brand. The designs are flattering & the prints are vibrant - plus the hooded towel I bought is very good. Unfortunately, the swimwear did not hold up to the very purpose it was sold for: swimming.

I bought two racerback tops with two high-waisted bottoms & alternated them once a week for aquafitness, following all care instructions (hand-wash cold, dry indoors). Within months, the colours faded dramatically & the sets now look old & worn. I am embarrassed to wear them in public. By comparison, my Batoko & even Kmart swimmers - used in the same way for 2–3 years - still look great.

Under Australian consumer law, products that aren’t fit for purpose should be eligible for a full refund. Instead, I was only offered a gift card for 50% of the purchase price, which could only be used to buy more swimwear from Sheila May, which I now knew was not fit for purpose. At the time, I wasn’t fully aware of my rights, so I gave up - what was the point in ordering more swimwear that wouldn’t last?

I’m leaving a star for the lovely prints, & the hooded towel. But I cannot recommend the swimwear for regular pool use, nor the company’s approach to consumer rights.

Wrong product received

The quality and service are excellent, the designs beautiful. The only reason I‘m only giving four stars is because I went with my measurements to order the correct size but sadly the pieces were all too big. I will order again as I think once I get the correct size I will love the pieces even more than I already do.

Shopping on the Sheila May website is so fun, full of vibrant colour & designs. The size info is very accurate. Hardest part is choosing. My new toggs arrived promptly & I love them. They feel good, look better than I thought possible and I graciously accepted my complements, of course passing on Sheila May's details.

The pieces I chose are a great fit, nice quality fabric, and I love the colours. Service was quick and accurate. Can't ask for more.

Really great quality and I love the colours and design, but the sizing has been tricky. I sized down as suggested, but they were still too big, and not super clear until I used them in water. So I got another pair, so two sizes down based on measurements on website, and the thighs are still too big around the legs. These are amazing sizing for people with larger hips and thighs, however I have a larger belly but my hips and thighs aren’t (thanks kid!). These bottoms sort of turn out. The material is so soft and wonderful but it means it’s actually very stretchy. Perhaps sizing down (3 sizes down) might help, but those who might have different proportions like me the sizing might be a bit tricky. This is the only reason for the one less star - the service and product are amazing

I still havent recieved my swimsuit its been at the airport booked on a flight since 24th feb and its now 11th march, going on hols tomorrow.

As a New Zealand customer, I came to realise I was in a no-win situation with this company. Due to policies that were not obvious at point of sale, I found that (when my items were too big for me despite following the size guide) on top of postage I had already paid, I was going to have pay return postage for a store credit only option - no possibility to direct exchange or a refund - and then pay a third amount of postage to receive the goods! Swimwear has to fit. Enquired with the company and said they couldn’t offer refunds due to shipping policies etc. if this is the case it should be made more explicit for nz customers what the costs and policies are at point of sale, like e.g. the iconic does. I am $300 out of pocket with poor fitting swimwear (great advertisement for this brand), and have decided to cut my losses rather than pay another $40 in postage and risk still not getting a good result fit-wise. Clearly, disappointed and won’t buy or recommend.

Swim shorts fit beautifully, feel great. Thoroughly recommend.

Really lovely top and bottom, true to size, very well made, and arrived from Australia in less than a week, I’m very happy.

Make sure you read the returns policy before purchasing as they only allow exchanges or store credit. I purchased the Rashie and Shorties and as a tall girly they’re just not for me. The length of both items was quite cropped on me and I already sized up with that in mind so now I’m out $200. I understand it might be difficult for hygiene reasons but with not being able to try things on before purchasing and being targeting towards curvy girls you’d think they would have a more flexible policy.

Before I get into the negatives, I want to start with the positives.

The swimmers are lovely. The material feels great, the colours are beautiful, and I really appreciate that they showcase the swimsuits on women of different sizes.

Customer service was also friendly and quick to respond, and they genuinely tried to offer solutions.

Now for the negatives.

It’s important to be aware that they have a no refund policy. This is stated on their website. I usually avoid purchasing from online stores with this type of policy, but I was really keen to try these swimmers. Personally, I don’t agree with this approach — especially when you can’t try the swimmers on in store and are taking a chance ordering online.

I purchased a set, but when I tried it on, it just wasn’t right for me. It didn’t suit my body shape and I didn’t feel comfortable wearing it. I reached out to customer service and they suggested other styles that might suit me better. I returned the first set and exchanged it for a different style.

Unfortunately, the second style also didn’t suit me and made me feel self-conscious. When I attempted to exchange again, I found out that only one exchange is allowed. After that, they only offer store credit. While this is mentioned on their website, it is easy to miss.

Because I originally purchased the swimmers with a 15% discount, trying another style now would cost me around $60 more, as the sale had ended. I didn’t feel comfortable spending an additional $60 to try yet another style when I wasn’t confident it would suit me.

As a result, I’m now left with a voucher I likely won’t use. I understand that this is their policy, but it doesn’t feel fair to require customers to keep purchasing when the product simply isn’t right for them. For a brand that promotes inclusivity, this policy doesn’t feel particularly inclusive.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I wanted to share my experience. It has definitely made me hesitant to purchase online from brands that only offer store credit.

Helped me return an item despite the required period had lapsed

Love the design and the concept!
Fun colours and good quality.
Bought a few different pieces to mix and match.

I brought 3 pieces but were all to big it was easy to return them and get smaller pieces. I’m looking forward to wearing my new togs.

I had to change sizes twice. The turn around was efficient the 1st and the 2nd time the replacement was in the mail before I posted the 1 I had back.

Ordered the wrong size worried that the smaller size wouldn't fit my bigger bust and they quickly exchanged it for a better fit. I love the shelf bra & it fits perfectly now.
