Sony WF-1000 MX4 earbud battery replacement

Had pretty much written off these earbuds when the inbuilt battery life went off a cliff (a known issue).

Came across this service and figured it was worth trying to get them repaired.

Good price, rapid and positive response to an error I made when ordering, and a quick turnaround (a little over a week from posting the earbuds to getting them back).

A welcome alternative to modern bin it culture.

Would use again.

Sometimes it does work out! A business I trust.

The speed and the efficiency was great. It always feels like a bit of a gamble trusting your expensive product to a business you have no experience of but from my experience right from the start where we had an extensive WhatsApp conversation, to sending the earbuds and the speed of the service my mind was put at ease. I've always been an advocate of getting stuff repaired, rather than buying new for environmental reasons and I'm so glad that this business has enabled me to do that.

Searched the internet and found the company and really glad I did. Sent my Garmin G30 for repair to charging port and received excellent service. Always kept up to date on process and received back within a week. Highly recommended.

Update – issue turned out to be on my side

I previously left this review after a resistor swap on my uConsole AIO v2 board, believing the internal USB‑C port had been damaged by the repair because it no longer powered or enumerated devices.

#### 2 stars:
Resistor swap completed but board left in worse state

I commissioned a single 0402 SMD resistor swap on a PCB expansion board(remove 10K0, install 4.3k2).
I supplied the correct replacement resistors from Farnell and provided the manufacturer's technical statement as reference.
Leo confirmed he could do the job.

The board was returned with the work apparently completed. However, upon testing, the relevant port — which was partially functional before I sent
the board - is now completely non-functional. Independent diagnostics (lsusb, dmesg) confirm zero enumeration, no VBUS output, and no response at any USB speed,
including USB 2.0 fallback. The adjacent port on the same board works perfectly.

When I raised this. Leo explained the service covers the soldering task only and not the outcome,
and declined a refund. I understand that positon, but I think it's important for other customers to know that the board came back in a worse stat then it was sent.

Since then, after more in‑depth troubleshooting on my side, I’ve confirmed that Leo’s soldering work was correct (the specified 4.3kΩ resistor is in place and measures correctly) and the USB‑C failure was actually caused by a missing software configuration after I reinstalled the OS, not by the hardware repair. Once GPIO 23 was re‑enabled in software, the internal USB‑C port came straight back to life and has been working as expected.

I’m happy to clarify publicly that Leo did the job as requested and did not damage the board. My earlier assumptions were wrong, and I appreciate that he carried out the component replacement exactly to spec.

This service is strictly limited to carrying out the specified soldering work only and does not include diagnostics, fault investigation, or any guarantee that the modification will resolve or improve functionality. The work was completed exactly as instructed.

As no diagnostic assessment or pre-testing was included as part of this service, the prior condition or behaviour of the board cannot be verified. For this reason, we’re unable to confirm the claim that the board was in a different working state before the modification.

Modifications based on third-party guidance can also produce different outcomes depending on board revision or underlying faults, which are outside the scope of this service.

One of my Bose ear buds wouldn’t charge…

One of my Bose ear buds wouldn’t charge and they were only 4 years old. Bose suggestion was to buy some new ones which I found to be completely unacceptable. They’re a premium product for which I expected them to work for a longer period. I contact save my device and the whole procedure was excellent from beginning to end. The cost of repair was very reasonable and saved my a few hundred pounds over purchasing new ones. Thank you.

Simple and quick

Sorting the Garmin

Sent the thing off(Gain 810), paid for the repair: Leo fixed it and returned it. Couldn’t ask for any better efficiency. The Garmin is working fine. Can’t beat that for effectiveness. So efficient, effective and good customer care. What can I say, other than great job, thanks
