It's great to read all the positive reviews about the Sapphire oil boiler. Regrettably, our experience is totally the opposite. It has been a nightmare from the start. We live in a converted barn and decided to go for the most advanced oil boiler, for environmental and economic reasons, to replace our 25 year old perfectly functioning but noisy and uneconomical boiler. Ten months later and we still have major issues. The installation took 4 weeks rather than 4 days; everything that could go wrong did go wrong, from leakage, to pump, to ridiculous noise, to short-circuiting issues. Since we had the installer back 4x, twice after returning from holiday. Despite a clever Ember app linked to the boiler it doesn't like 'holiday mode' as it turns off and doesn't turn back on. It is now 28 December and we arrived back after Christmas to a stone cold house. The installer came out this morning (Saturday, good for him), has tried everything possible but needs new Sapphire parts. We'll be in a cold house with electric heaters in the essential areas until the new year. My advice: do not touch Sapphire and stick instead with tried and tested boilers. We may well decide to rip up the entire system and start again. £13K down the drain, let's see how Sapphire responds. We'll update this review as/when/if they do.
Update: 2 hours after posting company contacted us and their engineer will (hopefully) resolve on Monday 30/12.
Update Monday 30/12: Engineer from Sapphire has resolved technical issue. Intervention by MD EOGB to ensure swift resolution, engineer very helpful and skilled. Sapphire has fully recovered the issue. It shows once more that a negative can be turned around and end up with a positive. Well done Sapphire.

Rob for Barton Boilers has just installed a stainless steel Sapphire Boiler and the quality was better than I expected. It a small unit but powers our large house and with it 'modulation function' it only works at the level of demand we need saving us fuel. A very high quality 'smart boiler' expertly installed. - Highly recommend as this is the best in the Market - Thank you

I am a boiler engineer and the Sapphire is a great boiler, almost as good as gas! This is because it can modulate - vary its output which hopefully stops cycling - turning on and off. It is important that the maximum output is matched to the heat loss of the property - bigger is not better!. This means that you do need to get an accurate heat loss calculation done for your property - there is an excellent app called Heat Engineer, cost #12.00. To get maximum efficiency you must use an " Open Therm" controller and a cylinder with a big coil rather than a big cylinder. Technical Support is excellent, the guy I spoke to really knows his stuff - shame he did not write the manual. Ask your installer about these points and weather compensation, if he/she sounds knowledgeable then go with them and remember lukewarm radiators are a good sign.

Downside is the noise and be careful when fitting the flue - it is easy to displace the seals.

Just over a month and all going well, apart from additional visit post completion to get start procedure 100% have had no issues.
A little louder than old boiler on start up but then that soon subsides. Obviously only using for hot water so maybe an update when winter kicks in.

I have to add to the many positive reviews of the Sapphire modulating oil boiler, I have been in the oil heating industry for 26 years and can say that these boilers are an absolute game changer.
This fully modulating hvo ready boiler is future proofing the otherwise archaic liquid fuel heating industry.
Many properties that are not suitable for a heat pump or connected to the gas main will benefit hugely from the energy savings to be had.
I cannot recommend the Sapphire boiler highly enough, not to mention the outstanding after sales support from Sapphire.

I had a Sapphire boiler installed in May and so far it’s been excellent. It heats the water up much faster than my previous Worcester oil boiler. My oil consumption also appears to be 20% lower.

I seem to have got the lemon
Despite the excellent efforts of the installer one week on I still don't have a fully functional boiler. I have strange noises that don't sound good coming from the boiler on start up and despite a replacement pcb controller being installed The cooldown timer for the recirc pump and condensate pump fails to timeout!
I may just be unlucky but after the previous reviews I did not expect such hassle. Hopefully I can update this review with a success story soon!
UPDATE 23/07/24
Following more efforts by the installer it appears firstly that the new PCB required further tuning and adjustments to the vent.
However the main issue regarding both the recirc pump timeout and start up locking out are probably related to a software logic issue. (this must be common to all indoor boilers?)
I am informed that this issue is actually known about and may be being worked on...but I currently have no concrete response to this.
Very disappointed that this was not highlighted to the installer before having to change out parts as such I have actually lowered my review score.
Return of boiler is being considered unless I receive assurances that this issue will be addressed and when!

I don't often update a review positively but in an effort to be fair to EOGB I am changing from 1 star to 3 on the basis of the fact EOGB did eventually resolve the timer issue and also the lockout logic and supplied a revised control board. Nevertheless facts are facts and EOGB need to look at how they deal with customers and keep them informed. The boiler has been working for several months now (with the faults) and the only issue I have is that the boiler is relatively noisy...would not want this in the kitchen.

Now we have fitted more than 20 i can safely say this boiler is amazing. It is by far the best boiler on the market, Very well built and the team from EOGB give amazing support if needed. I could not recommend this product enough. I deal with Reece mainly and his wealth of knowledge is off the scale. I will be fitted lots more. Thanks Sapphire!

I'm an oil installer and I can't praise the sapphire enough. It is the most versatile oil boiler that I have ever fitted and though far more advanced than other boilers, is straightforward to install and set up. The heat exchanger will still be going when others have rusted away.. The support from the sapphire team is second to none. Fit these boilers with confidence

As a boiler engineer I have installed and worked on thousands of boilers and the Sapphire is in a different league. It is beautifully engineered, the customer service is fantastic and most importantly, it is fully modulating and works with Opentherm controls to ensure that it will only provide the heat output you need. So in the Summer it can run at 6kw for hot water and then in the Winter can increase up to 32kw or anywhere in between for central heating.

Fantastic boiler that replaced my old broken existing oil boiler. Took a day to install and set up and all working great and looks nice and neat. I have it connected to a new Honeywell evohome thermostat and i'm already seeing some savings due to the modulating system. Can beat the fact they are offering 25 year warranty on the heat exchanger!
