High expectations, but overall disappointment
I ordered three pairs of shoes on Rivieras website, in one of my first online purchases of clothes - and most likely the last.
[Bad start]. It took quite some time to receive the product, having to wait for more than 10 days before the company even managed to deliver the order to a shipping company.
[Slightly better development] When they arrived, I had to acknowledge a very nice packaging and a good choice of carrier, which brings the evaluation to at least 2 stars.
[Bad ending] Yet, the product quality was sub-optimal. The three pairs should have been of the same size but were all different. In one of the pairs, one shoe was significant smaller than the other, to the point of not being wearable. The customer service didn't appear to think that this detail would matter, to my bewilderment.
[More frustration] I tried to start the return procedure, but the website got stuck and I already had a negative experience with the customer service, so I just gave up and was not able to complete the process, which would have in any case appeared cumbersome in terms of packaging and customs communication, even if it went through.
[Tragic ending] So I ended up throwing one of the three pairs away (even difficult to resell them, given the different size) and pretending the other two were 50% more expensive, even if I'm starting to get bothered by other small defects I'm noticing here and there (which, in all honesty, I guess would have probably not bothered me if the overall shopping experience had not been so frustrating).
[Slight post-mortem improvement] After an email of protest, I received a more reasonable reply from the company (so the second star is fully deserved, but a third one would probably still be too much), which at least showed some degree of goodwill, but buying a pair of shoes cannot become a full-time job requiring a month of discussions and negotiations with the retailer. So I didn't follow up.
[Morale of the story] I guess the general lesson learnt from this experience is that supposedly-good shoes should probably not be bought online - just walk into a local shop with their old shoes, and walk out of it with a new, tested pair.
