Once you sign up for a a free trial, it becomes tricky to cancel, you have to sign in to a website and remember passwords. And even after cancelling your account, you get hounded with emails and texts, and it's tricky to 'unsubscribe', you can't just click on the 'unsubscribe' hyperlink, you have to sign into your account. Even after receiving an email to say I'd successfully unsubscribed, I'm still receiving emails.
Hardcopy workbooks from Officeworks are better than Reading Eggs.

Making English fun and structured
My son is growing up in France and I am trying to keep his English reading level on par with his French. I tried teaching him myself through reading but it got complicated when we reached vowel digraphs. I really needed something structured that introduced him to different phonemes and spellings progressively, rather than trying to teach him on the fly as and when words came up in our books. I was almost put off by the bad reviews of R.E. but so glad I tried anyway. Yes it's game-ified but that makes it fun for him. The poor guy already has long days at school with homework when he gets home, I need the English part to be fun or his whole day is drudgery. He asks for my support when reading the "books" as it can be tricky, I feel that my presence is important (some of the time) rather than just leaving him in front of the screen, and I'm always listening so I know what he's learning and can reinforce it. But honestly I'm so happy I've found a way to get him to learn a little English every day in a way he looks forward to. We've been going for around 3 weeks so far. I would totally recommend to anyone in a similar situation who doesn't have the time to develop their own home schooling programme and wants to keep it fun.

We started using this following my daughter having some trouble learning phonics at school. She is in reception and is 5 years old. The app has made reading fun! She loves the videos and the games. She has progressed so much in the short time we have used it.

Terrible. Do not buy.
This is the worst learning app ever. The critters do not look "cute". They look like a 3 year old made them in Blender. Also the questions do not give the right answer if you get them wrong, according to the review by Alice. My class did not learn anything from this rubbish. Biggest waste of £55 ever.

3 years of using it. Great app, but sadly not in Fire OS.
I have been using the Reading Eggs app for approximately 3 years. It's a great app that engages kids effectively. However, one major drawback is that it's not available on Amazon Fire devices. I have used kids' devices on Apple, Android, and Amazon, and I've found that Amazon Fire OS is the best for parental control for kids in the Reading Eggs age group. Unfortunately, Reading Eggs is not compatible with Amazon Fire OS. Despite the better parental control offered by Fire Kids tablets, the app is not supported. As a result, I ended up purchasing an iPad just for the sake of using Reading Eggs, and my kids ended up using the device in an uncontrolled manner. Unfortunately, after so many years, this might prompt me to choose a different app that is supported on Fire OS.

Yes, unfortunately the Kindle Fire does not support the Reading Eggs program, as Amazon products run on their own independent software platform.
We are so sorry to hear that this has impacted your experience in a negative way. Our teams continue to look at ways around this, however it is not an easy task.
The program is supported on many other devices, including PC's and laptops, but at this stage, not on devices that run Amazon Fire Operating Systems. Sorry for any inconvenience.

We've used Reading Eggs for the past 2 years - 5 stars!
I rarely write reviews, but was compelled to after reading the negative feedback about Reading Eggs on Trustpilot.
Like the previous reviewer, I cannot comprehend how people have rated Reading Eggs negatively.
You can switch off the learning 'games' from the control panel area. If you have trouble finding this, speak to the Reading Eggs online support team who can assist. Their customer service is speedy.
You certainly don't NEED a printer and loads of ink. The worksheets are simply there to complement the online lessons. Plus, there's an online library packed full of age appropriate books. It's not mandatory to print anything.
Both of my sons (aged 5 and 6) have been using Reading Eggs for the past two years. We have sat with them as they've worked their way through the lessons and have shared in their joy when passing the skills tests and cracking open a new egg character. My sons are now excellent readers and love nothing more than picking up a book.
Reading Eggs has made reading fun and enjoyable. Schoolwork is a breeze. I'm grateful to the Reading Eggs team for making such comprehensive, interesting and clear lessons which follow the national curriculum.
Math Seeds is also tremendous for all the same reasons.
To anyone ruminating over whether to make the purchase - do it. You'll be pleased you did.

Brilliant app. My son has ADHD and loves it
My son has ADHD and was struggling with reading and writing at school. Reading Eggs has totally turned his life around at school!! He started using it aged 5 and a half. It is a one-to-one 'teacher' for a child who struggles to learn in a classroom environment with lots of kids and distractions. Reading Eggs uses 'maps' to motivate kids - they have to work their way around the map and gain certificates and occasional access to games. He normally hates anything frustrating but he totally strives to earn the maps and print them out! His new knowledge led to him becoming more confident with reading and writing at school, which in turn improved his behaviour - he was desperate to show off his maps - letting him go from zero to hero on a few occasions :-) A circle of better behaviour started. It might not always last, but it's a huge improvement. His school teacher agreed that Reading Eggs had done him a huge favour. I can't rate this app highly enough for any kids but especially neurodivergent ones.
He can get angry at my attempts to teach him, but is more than happy to let 'Reggie Egg' teach him!
I noticed some comments from other reviewers concerning 'gaming'. There are a few games available in the app. As a parent, I ask my son not to use the games and to concentrate on Reading, Phonics and Maths! It's really that simple - only allow game access when you choose it. If you are in the same room as your kid, you can hear what they are doing. We can choose how much TV our kids watch, and this is the same. The 'games' aspect of this app is truly minimal. Back to my initial comments, Reading Eggs is brilliant for my child. Thank you so much.

Although Reading Eggs is not geared specifically towards children with ADHD, we have certainly received some positive feedback from parents of children with ADHD who have found the program really useful.
When your child first enters the program, they will have an option to either start at the very first lesson, or to take an assessment test that will assess their ability and place them at the right level within the program. Your child will then be able to work through the activities systematically at their own pace.

I can't understand any bad reviews of reading eggs. It's relevant and upto date with what keeps children interested nowadays. It's fun. It gives children opportunities to break and have fun whilst learning. There is variation with the games and the rewards systems. The library is great. I rate Reading Eggs highly. Worth paying for. My son and I have great fun after a unit doing the arcades, which are also educational. My older girl used Reading Eggs throughout lockdown and now reads all the time (At almost 14). I credit that to Reading Eggs.

If getting your child hooked on gaming…
If getting your child hooked on gaming and sucked into the screen eternally - this is the one for you. How much reading it taught my kiddo - not much.
So my reception year child asked for reading eggs as he started reception. I swiftly realised that he got absolutely hooked on the gaming side. Reading did not progress at all.
I regret introducing my child to this utter rubbish. Obviously I got rid of it after these observations.

Use this program extensively for SEND tuition
Use this program extensively at home, private tuition and with SEND children in school. The results have been impressive and I now have children reading who were previously unsuccessful. I do adapt the program and use resources selectively. However, simply working through the program is beneficial for those with out teaching experience. The small steps and repetitive activities build confidence and secure understanding

Reading Eggs is heavily gamified. Felt like the kids were being groomed for online gaming and gambling. Completely not age appropriate for young ones due to the heavy over the top gamification.
