As we never had done this before we were a little concerned about the process, what would it involve, the bureaucracy and the unawareness of complicated legal terms, were definitely on the back of our minds. Engin made my family's dream come true when no-one else could help - and what an impact he had!

My sister was put on a transplant waiting list at the same time as I was house hunting. With two elderly parents, a 1 year old baby, and my wife pregnant with our second child, we desperately needed a decent and large family home that could meet our stretching criteria. After months of searching, tens of fruitless viewings, and a complex income stream with just a small deposit, we thought the dream was out of reach - no matter which broker I tried, no-one could secure the multiple we needed to achieve the necessary borrowing.

Then came along Engin. At first, I was pessimistic when he said he could make it happen, even when he managed to get the mortgage in principle - with all the google stories I had read I was convinced the underwriters would not pass me on the basis of affordability. But hey, I thought there was nothing to lose, and he asked me to trust him, so that's what I did.

Fast forward a few weeks, and my sister got a call from her consultant asking her to rush in to hospital as they had found a matching liver! I thought she was joking as she had only been on the waiting list for one month - that was until she called me a few hours later bidding me an emotional farewell as she was being escorted into the operating theatre. Everything happened so quickly that I completely forgot about the mortgage as I was her next of kin and was told I'd get a call a few hours into the op to get an update i.e. whether it had been successful or not! Never have I had such an agonising wait for a phonecall - but when it came and the voice of the nurse at the other end was so cheerful I breathed the biggest sigh of relief of my life.

None of us had slept that night, and my parents were desperate to go and see her, but we were advised to wait until the general anaesthetic wore off before we could go in. So we went home to try and sleep.

The next thing I remember is being woken up by a phone call - and hearing my sister at the other end of the line! I'd only slept a few hours and was disorientated so it took me a few seconds to register. She asked me 'where are you guys', and my answer was 'were asleep!', only to register that I've just had a wake up call from someone who's just survived a successful transplant! I ran downstairs like a little boy in a sweetshop to wake everyone up so we could rush to the hospital and see her.

So where does Engin now fit in to this story? As I was driving the 1 hour journey, I was praying from the depths of my soul for the mortgage to come through. My sister knew full well that I had already earmarked one of the bedrooms for her and I daydreamed about how amazing it would be to arrive at her bedside with the news of the mortgage going through as a gift. And what happened? No word of a lie - quite literally, as I parked up outside the hospital, I got a text from Engin. He said - and I've still got the text - quote: 'I know your family are going through a tough time...I hope this good news will take some of your stress off...we've got the mortgage!'.

This wasn't meant to be a novel...but when I repeat the events it makes my spine tingle and I swell up, and Engin was a part of this story. Fast forward three years and my sister is in the best health she has ever been, up for promotion in her job as an asset manager in the city, travelling the world and planning for a bright and happy future.

On her first 'transplant anniversary' we invited Engin to our new home so he could break bread with the family. I don't just view him as my broker - he's a friend of the family, and its that relationship that matters more. But at the end of the day, he stepped in where no-one else could, so if you need someone who understands what it means to need a home and not just a house, don't waste your time with anyone else!

Engin was great to work with - understanding, knowledgeable and supportive. He also turned things around quickly for us and we felt we were in good hands the whole time.
