The Guianas
Initially, I found it difficult to book my trip and communicate with office staff, calling both Denmark and Bulgaria offices to get a response. However, once Victoria was able to offer me a place on the Guianas tour, then communication with her was quick, easy and thorough. As for the tour itself, everything went very smoothly, including the trip to Kaieteur Falls and a tour of the Space Center at Kourou. I realize that this has not been everyone's experience, as the flight to Kaieteur can be cancelled because of weather and the Space Center tour because of launches. However, we lucked out on both counts. The local guides were both good, especially Cherry, who even prepared us breakfast herself when we had early morning departures. For me the most important part of booking a group tour in this region was in order to have transportation taken care of, as public transport is not reliable. On that count, our tour leader, Bruno, ensured that all connexions ran smoothly. Some participants were disappointed that he didn't organize more group dinners, but he always provided a list of recommended restaurants, and the more gung-ho members of the group reviewed these choices and made the decision where to eat; we followed and had some wonderful meals, particularly in French Guyane. One pleasant surprise for me was the beautiful sailing cruise and visit to the Îles du Salut from Kourou. The islands, including Devils' Island were very atmospheric.
