It’s expensive and you don’t get live lessons, not for everybody. The folders give are good.

My personal tutor was wonderfully encouraging and supportive - the learning materials were good. My only difficulty was to get enough conversational experience.

My experience with OOL was absolutely superb.
Julie was my tutor and she was always available and on top of what I was required to do and by when and where to focus. Without OOL there is no way I would have achieved an A* - which I am sop proud of.
Huge thanks to OOL.

I took the A level Maths course as it was required for most further study in the areas I am interested in (computing). I got an E at AS at sixth form, but 3 years later I decided I wanted to try again.
I started the course in January 2020, and finished in early 2021 spending the recommended time per week on work.
My tutor gave useful feedback on the end-of-topic assessments for any mistakes, and almost always responded to emails and questions within a day or two. Feedback on assessments was usually about a week since they send it by post and handwrite on your working, which I scanned and sent via email.
They still seemed to be able to provide service as normal during the pandemic, and gave me plenty of notice and advice for booking my exams with a school since they don't do so for you (though they were cancelled anyway because of the pandemic). Instead of exams, my grade was produced from my assessments as a predicted grade, and I got an A.
I found I worked much better independantly than when I was at school, and being able to take my time and go over the material as much as I needed greatly benefited me.
They provided a reference for my university applications, and I got an offer from both my choices and am now studying the computing subject I wanted to.

Very helpful tutors and was able to work at my own pace whilst meeting the timelines. Tutors were very good at checking in.

My daughter has just completed English language IGSCE and is in the middle of her GCSE course in English literature. Both courses and course tutors have been great. The phonecalls from the tutors to discuss each assignment really motivated my daughter to try her hardest. Having tutors who are interested and able to help my daughter develop her skills in English has also improved her confidence. I would highly recommend this company as the tutor support and number of marked assignments has made home educating my daughter feel very doable.

IGCSE ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Ok so I totally lucked out with my Tutor Jo - who was 100% amazing! I found the course material and course assignments great to work with and the repetition of the TMA’s really do help to improve your essay writing. It helps to know every single time I had to phone them the staff were helpful and polite :) always a bonus! With the help of my fantastic tutor who really did help kick my butt through the course I was given a grade 9 -you can pay in easy instalments : start the course as late or as early as you need and all work done through emails!!! fully recommend!

I think its a good company with good tutors, but I think you need to use text books and the Internet in addition to the course materials.
I have just finished studying IGCSE Human Biology. I have absolutely loved this course. My tutor has been great at answering any questions I have had if I've struggled to understand anything and my assignments have been marked and returned to me almost at the speed of light! My student advisor has also answered any questions promptly, even when I could have found the answer myself! This has been a great time to study human biology. I definitely understand a lot more about how vaccinations work than I would have before this course and about the mechanisms thought to be behind the development of so called Long Covid. I started the course to keep myself occupied during covid - related restrictions and it certainly did the job! But more than that it has reignited my desire to learn new things and today I have just signed up for another course!

My son has just completed a KS3 English course which he really enjoyed. The course is informative and well written. The assignments are well spaced and we were supported through them by an amazing tutor who connected with us before an assignment, then discussed his assignment with him afterwards with him (by phone). She would also direct us to other specific on line resources for areas that he needed to explore futher. The reading list is varied and covered different types of text. Overall, really fanastic course.

I decided to take a Psychology GCSE to support my son who had taken psychology as a GCSE option but was a little unsure about whether he had made the right choice. As a working mum, distance learning was the only option for me, so I started to do some research. Oxford open learning was by far the simplest to organise and price was competitive. An A4 binder of course material and assignments was sent to me, my tutor emailed to introduce himself to me and I was ready to start work! I loved that I could work at my own pace and my tutor was always on hand to help if i had any questions. He always responded very quickly and was always encouraging and helpful. As I completed each assignment I would email it to my tutor and he would promptly mark it and send it back with comments and advice. I cannot comment on the process of finding a school to allow distance learning students to sit exams on their premises as covid sadly meant that my coursework was simply graded for an end result but I was delighted to get a 7 ...
I would definitely recommend Oxford Open Learning as my experience was a very positive one.

I never thought I could ‘do’ French. From the moment I started my OOL IGCSE course, I began to question this view. Learning was structured, paced and fun. There were many different resources mentioned by my OOL tutor and In the course folder. My tutor was outstanding. Helpful, informative, quick to reply and always fun. I have been inspired to continue my language and would tell anyone wondering if they could learn via the OOL, to go for it.

Oxford Open Learning do not even deserve 1 star. They charge too much for too little. They are definitely not worth your money or your time. The service they have provided is absolutely appalling. Also, the materials they provide are poor and so out of date and make learning difficult. Their course materials are like they are from the dark ages and not worth the course fees. Communication is non existent, especially now that I want to make a formal complaint. In fact, I have been trying to escalate my matters since the 20th August and so far no one has been able to adequately respond and deal with my complaints, nor even acknowledge them. All I am getting is ignorance! I have to find out who regulates them and make an external complaint as well as reporting them to Ofqual. They sabotaged my every effort to get a fair calculated grade. I followed all of their last minute changes of rules and processes during lock down, all of which caused me immense stress and pressure. Despite following all guidelines they imposed on me, all at the last minute with minimal notice, and charging me an unfair set of second exam fees to obtain a calculated grade, they failed me in every way possible! What is worse is that they lacked transparency in every way. They registered themselves as an exam centre at the last minute. I suspect this was their attempt to cash in on students paying double the exams fees, as we had already paid another exam centre. My tutor was not involved in the process of being assigned a calculated grade. How they worked these out in the office is a total joke, especially when you consider all of their last minute changes. They clearly had no clues whatsoever. Their failures to award me a fair grade meant I lost my planned job opportunities and the financial security that would have come with that. It made no sense for them award me one grade lower than the minimum grade I needed to achieve my planned choice of job, a job that I am doing since three years on less than half of what I should be earning. According to their own guarantees they are meant to refund my course fees as they did not award me the equivalent of the A-C that I needed. But they are failing to act on this, their own policies. They are failing to reply to my emails. They are failing to respond to my complaints. Absolutely disgraceful! They failed me, failed to reply to my complaints, failed to refund me my course fees in line with their own guarantees, and failed to act as an appropriate exam centre, which they set themselves up for this summer to be able to award calculated grades. They failed to be transparent about their processes and predicted grades and failed to award a fair grade. Their motive for this is to get even more money out of me to retake exams and extend my course, without giving any care or concern for the impact of this on my life. They are completely inadequate to continue running as an educator and they are certainly not fit to be an exam centre. Their failures and total incompetence could ruin your life too! Save your money and go elsewhere and get a better service and better learning experience and achieve the grade your deserve. The Oxford Open Learning are a total shambles and a disgrace. They should be shut down!
25.09.20 In their response the OOL have proved how unprofessional and incompetent they are in trying to falsley mislead everyone. I would like to make clear the OOL have ignored all of my emails to escalate my complaints. They are replying here, in response to my honest review to warn others against using the OOL. That's lie number 1 from them. I registered for my course with 1 year and 9 months before my exam was due to take place as I work full time and I'm a parent too. I wanted to make sure I had planned enough time to study. Claiming I had two years to study is lie number 2! The OOL specifically told me not to complete pack 2 as those assignments were only relevant to the Higher Tier Exam, and I was only studying towards the Foundation Tier Exam and I completing all assignments for the pack 1. This is lie number 3! It does not state in their Money Back Guarantee you have to complete packs 1 and 2! My tutor told me she was not involved in any part of the process to produce calculated grades the OOL issued. This is lie number 4! The OOL never shared my predicted grade with me. If they had I would have told them not to bother with a calculated grade. The fact that this meant they could claim further fees from me, is the reason they gave me a Grade 3, they charged me higher fees than the original exam centre and wanted even more money to extend my study time when the exam board makes clear the student should not be charged for this extension of time. They are trying to exploit students using Covid-19 as an excuse to charge students even more fees. They are a total disgrace! See other negative reviews.

I hadn't studied French since being at school 30 years before when I started a French A level with OOL in September 2018. I felt trepidation to say the least as I was very rusty and I was middle aged with a creaky brain! However my OOL tutor Robin soon put me at ease, even when I found the course challenging. I put consistent effort into trying to stay afloat through this course and I was rewarded by recognition of my efforts, praise and positivity from Robin. He was always professional and very good at pointing out where I could improve but in general he was generally very encouraging which as an adult learner was crucial to keep me motivated. Robin's knowledge of languages and teaching experience was incredibly impressive and I very much felt in safe hands being taught by someone who knew the subject inside out. The course materials were also straightforward and well written - if challenging at times. I think trying to translate Madame Bovary in the past historic tense in the very first term did make me feel out of my depth. But otherwise a fascinating course taking in all sorts of interesting aspects of French politics, history, current affairs and culture and arts. I learned not just about the language but about French people - their culture, attitudes, opinions, heritage and creativity. This for me was incredibly enjoyable and lifted me up even when the grammar intricacies and multiple verb tenses were getting me down!

I am delighted with help and support I received from Oxford Open Learning during my A level French course. At the age of 71 I passed with an A grade. The course materials are excellent for an independent learner, the feedback and guidance from my tutor were invaluable and the support and encouragement from the administrative staff were crucial to my success. I am really grateful to all of them and I have no hesitation in recommending them unreservedly. I shall now embark on A level Spanish.

My son has studied his English from Year 7 - iGCSE with Oxford Open Learning and his tutor has been wonderful. He has autism and is educated at home and the pace he can follow is his own choosing. He has chosen to concentrate really hard and at the end of Year 8 he has just completed the work for his iGCSE after starting with Oxford in October 2018. He has loved the challenge and the interesting TMA's (Tutor Marked Assignments). Hopefully he will remain confident to take the exam next summer - if exams return to normal.

The A level French course content with the Oxford Open Learning was excellent (many contemporary current affairs/issues in France, as well as covering the history of Pétain's Vichy Govt during WW2, the numerous round ups & deportations & the French Resistance !). Highly interesting!!
For my Independant Research Project, I chose Simone Veil (an incredibly fascinating & memorable woman), a Jewish deportee who became a Magistrate on her return from Auschwitz, became the Minister of Health (passed the abortion law in France in 1975) & was also elected as the 1st female European President of the EU in 1979.
Basically you choose your own topic which must be linked to a French theme or context (cultural, social, person, country, etc).
From the book choice, I chose Joseph Joffo's "A Bag of Marbles"/ "Un sac de billes" (an autobiography written through his child's own eyes some 30 years after his escape from Paris (Occupied France) with his brother, Maurice, over the demarcation line to the Free Zone in the South of France.
As my film study, I chose "Goodbye Children"/Au revoir les enfants," by Louis Malle (based on a true story in a private catholic boarding school just outside of Paris where 3 Jewish boys were hidden in 1943/4).
Again, you choose according to your own interests: either 2 books or 1 book and a film to study from the range of books & films as specified on the OOL's list (the range is wide).
My course tutor Ms Silvana Avram was absolutely brilliant and I can't thank her enough for her written feedback (essays) & her guidance by phone. She was always there, quick in replying, engaged and was very pleasant & helpful. A great prof!
I can only but highly recommend this French A level course with the OOL! If you're looking for a very interesting challenge, this course is for you!

I took out A Level Biology. When I initially enquired about the course I found the tutor a bit rude & abrupt but I thought I don’t want anyone stopping me from doing this. But I was wrong! I don’t really like the tutor at all and I haven’t enjoyed the course! I really wish I took out English Literature instead and as for the tutor - I haven’t really herd from her in months! I would rate my experience as poor!!!!! Think before you take out this course.

I've nearly finished the A level Biology course. OOL sent me two large folders of notes, which need to be supplemented by the Edexcel text books for AS & A level. You really need these as the folders often refer to diagrams in them. The folders are slightly simplified than the Edexcel text books, and putting them together I've managed to understand (nearly) everything on the course. My tutor has been excellent, a very supportive and knowledgeable woman. The only other expense is for sitting the exams, so this is a much cheaper way to study the subject and get your qualification than going to an evening course (if you can find one). However, you do have to work at it and discipline yourself, as the you won't learn much just by having th ebooks in your room!.
