My husband and I entered into a contract with Chicago Doors & Closets on 9/09/2024 for the Doors totaling $14,164.00 and Closets totaling $2,681.00 for a total of $16,845.00. That was a huge expense for us.
Overall, it was a very negative experience. It began delightfully with Michelle, who was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. It went downhill from there.
Kurt, our salesperson, was in such a rush to sell the job that he made no effort to educate us as to any options or issues we might come across which could have helped us make more informed choices. He sold and ran. Not allowing access to his cell phone number made it very difficult to get in touch and once we were able to (thanks to Michelle) he was so insincere that he actually laughed over the phone at our concerns.
For example, he was the person who should have made us aware that the new pocket doors could be a few inches longer than the old ones, eliminating the large gap at the bottom. “We” are not the pros… “They” are supposed to be.
When half the shelves were installed and we had already paid half down, the company wanted the entire balance and were very upset with us when we refused to do so until the balance of shelves were installed. For a time going forward, our calls and texts to LeAnn were not returned. Thanks again, to Michelle, she brought in the owner, Brad. He was angry and patronizing and did not help the situation.
Further, the company’s sketches of how they planned to proceed were rudimentary and nonspecific. If we hadn’t made inquiries early on, the company would not have been forced to come and remeasure some of the closets. Appallingly, not until that second visit did they take into account the fact that one of the closets needed floating shelves and another needed alteration, creating further delay.
When the rest of the shelves were installed, we immediately paid the balance in full. Now we had to wait for the doors, which 50% had already been paid. At that point, LeAnn became more responsive to text messages only, not returning phone calls.
When the doors finally arrived over 4 months later (and they only come from Canada, not overseas) Alex and Johnny did a wonderful job installing. They were timely, neat and really tried to do the very best they could with what they were given.
At completion and paid in full, we sent a text to LeAnn stating we were not happy with the cheap, plastic door pulls they provided for the pocket doors. We had selected higher quality ones with the approval of the installer and sent them to Chicago Doors in Morton Grove for installation at the store (per their request), making it more convenient for them. Needless to say, we never received a response. They have our money….. they’re gone!!!
NO WONDER they have a D+ rating with The Better Business Bureau. Wish we had checked.
