Unfortunately, my experience with Nippon Driver was disappointing. I was unable to obtain my driving license translation in time, which meant I lost my car rental deposit and could not rent a car during my stay in Japan.
The process has several pitfalls: the printing code is valid for only a short time, the translation must be printed exclusively at a 7/11 in Japan, and it can only be printed once(!!!), something that was not mentioned. Combined with the holiday season and the limited working hours of JAF, my case could not be processed in time.
The customer service was very responsive, but, in hindsight, they could offer little assistance in resolving the issue because everything was pending on the JAF. I might as well have worked directly with JAF once I arrived in Japan.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re genuinely sorry that your experience in Japan did not go as planned and that this situation impacted your car rental.
That said, we would like to clarify a few important points for accuracy and fairness to future customers.
You did receive your official JAF-certified translation in time. Unfortunately, the issue occurred because you lost the printed document just a few days before your car rental pickup, during the New Year holiday period. At that time, JAF — the only organization authorized to issue and reissue certified translations in Japan — was closed, making any reprint impossible for anyone, including JAF itself.
Regarding the points you mention:
- The one-time print limitation and short validity of the print code are strict JAF rules, not conditions set by Nippon Driver.
- Printing at 7-Eleven is also a JAF requirement, as it ensures secure and certified output.
- These limitations apply equally whether you use our service, another one, or work directly with JAF by yourself.
Despite the holiday period, our team remained responsive and replied to your messages throughout. Given the timing and JAF’s closure, there was unfortunately no alternative solution that could have resulted in a different outcome — even by applying directly with JAF upon arrival.
We fully understand your frustration, but we respectfully believe that holding Nippon Driver responsible for this loss is not fair, as the circumstances were outside our control and unrelated to processing speed or service quality. Would you review your embassy with 2 stars if you lost your original driver's license or passport in Japan during the holiday season?
We truly regret that this situation affected your trip, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us further clarify these constraints to future customers.

Solution très simple pour avoir la traduction du permis français. Nippondriver nous a guidé parfaitement pour les documents, nous a renvoyé un lien à l’approche de notre arrivée au Japon. Dans le premier 7/11 nous avons tout simplement imprimé le document !
Merci beaucoup, cela a été très rapide, nous avons sélectionné l’option «express » quelques jours avant notre départ et nous avons reçu le lien à temps !

Nippon Driver helped me with the translation of my French license by the Japanese Automobile Federation. This was the only way I would be able to rent a car in Japan as the other route (the international driver's license) was not available.
Nippon Driver was able to deliver the service quickly and transparently.

Dommage que la JAF se soit trompée sur l’orthographe de mon nom ce qui nous a obligé à recommencer la procédure et obtenir le précieux sesame la veille seulement de la prise de la voiture et trois jours après mon arrivée mon arrivée au Japon. Je ne saurai trop conseiller de s ´ y prendre 6 semaines à l’avance

Foute informatie ivm je Belgisch rijbewijs
We huurden een tijdens onze voorbije reis naar Japan 3 keer een auto (Osaka/Kyoto - Hokkaido - Tokio en Japanse Alpen). We betaalden een vertaling van het rijbewijs voor 2 chauffeurs omwille van de veiligheid.
In Osaka/Kyoto kregen we probleemloos de wagen mee op vertoon van ons vertaald rijbewijs dat we bij 7/11 lieten afprinten. Op Hokkaido weigerde men mij met e wagen te laten rijden omdat ik mijn Belgisch rijbewijs niet bij me had!! Een lelijke streep hoorde rekening. Nochtans staat op uw website: "Your Belgian driver’s license will be fully recognized in Japan with our JAF-certified translation – it’s the only document you need to legally drive during your trip". NIET DUS!!! In Tokyo kregen we dan weer wel probleemloos de wagen mee voor 2 chauffeurs. Ik betaalde wel bijna 90€ om 3 weken te kunnen rijden, maar heb dat dus een deel van onze vakantie niet kunnen doen.
U schrijft op uw website ook: "100% money-back guarantee": ik hoop dan ook dat ik een deel van mijn geld tenminste kan recupereer. Dank en vriendelijke groeten, Jan Goossens

We herhalen hier exact hetzelfde wat we u reeds per e-mail hebben uitgelegd — dit is dus geen verrassing of schandaal, maar een eenvoudig misverstand.
In uw bericht vermeldt u dat u uw Belgisch rijbewijs niet bij u had tijdens een deel van uw reis. Het is dan volkomen normaal dat het verhuurbedrijf op Hokkaido u weigerde de wagen te laten besturen. De JAF-gecertificeerde vertaling vervangt het originele rijbewijs niet; ze moet altijd samen met het fysieke rijbewijs worden voorgelegd. Zonder dat originele document mag niemand — noch de politie, noch een autoverhuurder — u in Japan laten rijden.
Al deze informatie staat duidelijk vermeld op onze website en in de e-mails die we aan onze klanten sturen. De vertaling die u ontving is correct uitgevoerd volgens de officiële JAF-normen, en inderdaad, 100 % van de JAF-vertalingen in Japan worden geprint in een 7-Eleven-winkel, aangezien dat het nationale systeem is dat JAF gebruikt.
Aangezien onze dienst correct is geleverd en het probleem voortkomt uit een misverstand aan uw kant, kunnen wij geen terugbetaling aanbieden.
