My emails got lost in Metrol's spam folders but they went out of their way to put things right

I reached out to this company 3 times by email to get some advice about gas springs for a Hymer Exsis, starting 11th October 2025.

As I didn't get a reply or acknowledgement I gave them a 1 star review.

They reached out to me here explaining that my emails were going into their spam folder which was not retrievable by the sales team.

I've changed my review to 5 stars as they answered my initial enquiry and offered a goodwill discount for the misunderstanding.

As I wasn't sure whether or not to order 250N or 280N gas springs so they offered to re-gas the 250N to 280N if the 250N didn't work out. Many thanks to Alistair for his prompt and courteous attention.

From the USA

From the USA, I telephoned on a Friday morning UK time, to follow up on a online order. They told me that Monday was a Bank Holiday, but they would try to get the order out that day. Late Monday morning my order arrived!
You could have knocked me over with a feather! What incredible service. Customer service from Contental European suppliers can be spotty at times, but this UK based company come through with excellent support.

Singularly the worst company I have had…

Singularly the worst company I have had the misfortune to deal with.
A strut failed in April on our Horsebox that was 4 weeks old. The pair were returned to the company and the faulty strut was recharged and returned.
Upon installation it worked fine but after 4 weeks there was a pressure loss again. I returned both struts back to the company to be told that the strut had failed due to an ingress of dirt in the seal. This was not accepted by me as the other strut was fine and it was the same one that failed. Metrol refused to talk to me as all warranty work had to go through the supplier being Warwickshire horseboxes.
I contacted them and Jake resolved the issue with them and he has been faultless in his endeavours.
Even though the issue was resolved, some two weeks later I have still not received the replacement struts making the ramp unusable on the vehicle.
It is my submission that this company charges top dollar for bargain basement products and should be avoided at all times.

Thank you for your message, and we do understand how frustrating this situation has been for you. While you are not our direct customer, the original purchase having been made by Warwickshire Horseboxes, we have nevertheless done our best to support both you and your supplier throughout this process.

Following the initial failure in April, we fixed the damage around the strut free of charge as a gesture of goodwill, despite the issue falling outside of warranty. Unfortunately, when you experienced a second failure, we carried out a detailed investigation and concluded that the failure was due to dirt ingress at the seal. This was caused by the external mounting position being low to the ground and the strut lacking any protection from environmental road conditions.

At that point, we advised your supplier that future replacements should include either dust covers or ideally protection tubes to prevent a recurrence. These are traditionally used as standard across the trailer and horsebox industry. We prepared the necessary replacements, including protective accessories, but were unable to dispatch them immediately as we were still awaiting payment from your supplier. That payment was made several days later, during which time the stock of protection accessories was temporarily depleted.

We recognise that you as the end user, are the one most affected by this situation however feel your review of our service and product quality to be extreme. Metrol have been transparent with our findings and offered an improved solution to resolve the issue. We have now had a response from your supplier after several days with confirmation that the alternative options will be suitable for your application at no cost which we have and, continue to recommend for these types of applications.

We remain committed to professionalism and quality at every stage, even when challenges arise due to delays or breakdown in communication beyond our direct responsibility.

Turned up late and at to fix the item

Turned up late. Not every help full over the phone and they said they will get the information to me never called back at all but I ordered anyway and the brackets I had to drill holes and go buy nuts and bolts to make it work as The bracket would not fix to the sliding mechanism

Hi Danny, thanks for leaving feedback, apologies you feel the few minutes in between when you called us and you placing your order without knowing what you're trying to buy was too long however you didn't give us time to get the information from the supplier. There are multiple factors that determine which bracket fits which slide as described in the data sheets available on each of the product pages on our website. I would advise in the future that you allow us to provide the help you need before making a purchase if you are not sure on what you need.

Hi James, thanks for taking the time to leave a review, slightly puzzling as we were in the process of helping you to resolve this issue.. Anyway as you are aware Fedex have flagged your parcel as having an incorrect address, you have confirmed the address is correct and so now we are waiting for Fedex to finalise their investigation which should take approx. 7-10 working days. Despite this, we have since agreed to refund you before their investigation is complete due to you going out and purchasing your parts elsewhere, which we have done as a token of good will. This would have happened anyway upon the return of the goods or the confirmation from Fedex that they have been lost, we kindly ask that next time you order from anybody, it doesn't have to be us, you bear this in mind.

Experience Purchasing Gas Struts

Dealt with Ryan who was knowledgeable, professional, courteous and friendly. Could not fault the service. We received our products in good time, as described and of great quality.

Would not hesitate to use Metrol again!

Wanted to replace a broken gas strut

Wanted to replace a broken gas strut, found Metrol online after searching the part number printed on the strut in hand.

When looking at all the options online, I was then given 20 odd options of strut fixings, plus umpteen options to how strong the force of the strut... I was at confussedDotCom!!!..

Called the phone number shown on Metrol's website and within a very short time was speakinng to such a helpfull guy. He explained in such an easy terminology and guided me through all the options, although the stuts only ended up costing me £50 delivered, the effort and care in service was as if I was purchasing a new car from a main dealer, 100% serivce with a smile, thank you Metrol!!

Ohh!!! it also arrived today, only ordered mid afternoon yesterday 😎👌

We would have appreciated a chance to help before you leaving a 1 star review as e can supply 400mm springs but the wire diameter has to be at least 11.5mm. I am guessing as to the spring you are referring to, unfortunately, as you have not provided any further details.

Ryan was absolutely brilliant

Ryan was absolutely brilliant, I sent my broken spur arm, he found the appropriate replacement, then sent me the link to order online - it arrived the next day. I would buy from Metrol again and would definitely recommend them. Super service!

Amazing Customer Support

David Elmes from customer support couldn't have been more helpful and patient in guiding me through finding the right product to replace one gas strut that was quite old. Through photo's and several emails he persisted in helping me find the right item and provided me with clear details on what to order. A new but delighted customer!
