hi. I used the Root touch -up product and it didn't dye my grey hair!! it is exactly the purpose i wanted it for and it didn't work. so disappointed

Beware - Misleading pricing

Beware misleading pricing.
Vibe in the salon is good. Color quality is good. But always remember salon staff are generally NOT full trained colorists. Their knowledge is limited to what Madison Reed teaches them so if there is a problem, you have to talk to someone in a California call center.
Love the business model.
However SHAME ON MADISON REED for continuing its MISLEADING ADVERTISING AND PRICING. Signs and ads say Members pay $75 /mo for unlimited roots. But this is billed every four weeks so there is a 13th payment each year. actually MONTHLY cost is $81.25/mo. The company knows exactly what it is doing. I complained about this 3 years ago and the signs briefly changed to feature an asterisk in VERY SMALL TYPE that the amount would be billed 4-weekly. Today I see they dropped even that and it’s gone back to the same lie.
How can a reputable company get away with a lie like this? False pricing!

I cancelled a subscription and product…

I cancelled a subscription and product sent anyway and I requested a return label and returned the product within the 30 day window and no refund was issued after 2 months. I lost $70. Impossible to talk to a real person. I have USPS tracking number to show product was returned. Terrible for me to lose $70.

I used their demi-permanent hair dye…

I used their demi-permanent hair dye for around 4-5 months this past year and lost about half my hair. I experienced heavy shedding every time I took a shower for the entire duration this product was in my hair. Once I made the connection, I stopped using the dye, and the shedding immediately stopped. I sought medical attention and was put on prescription medication to try to regrow my hair. I just dropped hundreds of dollars on a laser/led helmet, I have been taking vitamins, all to try to get my hair to grow back to what it was before. I am too embarrassed to leave the house without extensions in. I have never had a problem with other hair dyes in the past.

If you research the ingredient ethanolamine that they use, there are scientific studies that demonstrate it is not safe for everyone and is actually worse than ammonia. Their straight-up denial that their product can cause a negative impact to some people in their responses on here is alarming and only goes to show they do not care about the impact this ingredient can have on people/their customers. 'We asked a dermatologist, and they said it's fine, so we are going to ignore the countless women who are losing their hair'. F this company. They need to be sued again.

Edit* Right on cue I have received their prepared and in denial response. Madison Reed, why would I go to you for help when you are aware via your customers and the judicial system that you are damaging some people's hair and yet you continue to use this ingredient and market your product to everyone as "free from harsh ingredients"? You are not trustworthy and are the main reason this has happened. Also it's not reasonable for people to make doctors appointments before getting their hair dyed.

I have read more than one study on NIH that provides evidence that ethanolamine can cause damage to hair. These are not new, either.

We stand by the ingredients in our products, but always encourage clients to review the ingredients with their doctor prior to purchase if they have any concerns. We offer full transparency in the ingredients used in all of our products on our website; we share our ingredients on every product page, just below the description where it says "+ INGREDIENTS".
A newer ingredient, chemically known as monoethanolamine, or MEA, can be used as a replacement for ammonia in permanent hair color. It does not have the odor of ammonia and does not cause eye or respiratory irritation as readily as ammonia. Rather, MEA functions as an alkaline agent, just like ammonia, to lift up the protective cuticle on the outside of the hair shaft and allow the permanent dye to enter the hair shaft and work. Because it is a large molecule, MEA cannot penetrate the scalp or reach the follicle from which the hair grows. MEA is a more expensive ingredient than ammonia and is therefore found in higher-end, higher-quality hair color products. Remember that any hair dye (whether formulated with ammonia or with MEA) permanently alters the hair shaft. Keep the permanently dyed hair in optimal shape to avoid hair breakage. This includes avoiding pulling or stretching color-treated hair, especially when wet, and avoiding coloring on top of previously colored hair.

Wish I would have known this information sooner, before using for well over a year. I had hair to my waist, now due to breakage my hair is above my shoulders.

As this article explains, hair breakage can occur with color treated hair, as the chemical reaction of all oxidative hair dye can compromise the protein structure of the hair shaft—the part that strengthens hair. Hair breakage occurs when the hair is weakened and simply breaks off. The hair is not actually falling out by the root.
Separately, we very much appreciate your reaching out about this important issue. We take your concerns and those mentioned in the lawsuit very seriously. Please know that our permanent hair color formulas have been clinically tested under the supervision of an independent, board-certified dermatologist with participants of various ages, ethnicities, hair types and colors. Hidden Subscription - hard to opt out

I have been a customer of Madison Reed for more than 5 years and have ordered from them many times. While I like the product, I have always found the website difficult to navigate when I am trying to place an order. Even when I just want to reorder what I did previously, it makes you go through many panels where it tries to get you to add on other products to your order. It defaults to auto-delivery and requires that you opt out each time. When I ordered a month ago, apparently I neglected to change it to a “one time” order. The only indication that I was now enrolled in auto-delivery was buried in the details of the order confirmation email, which I did not examine closely.

Today I got a shipping notification about an auto delivery order. I immediately went to the website but it was too late to cancel it. You can only cancel an order up to 60 minutes after the order was placed. But I never got an order notification, I only got a shipping notification. The chat bot said I can return the order for full refund with no shipping cost. We will see if that turns out to be true. But even if that is the case, the amount has already been charged to my card, and I have the hassle of returning it and then seeing if the amount is credited back to my card.

Even after having ordered from Madison Reed many times over these last 5 years, I still fell prey to a website design that makes it difficult to opt out of extra add-ons and auto-delivery. While I like the product, and I feel the pricing is fair, my experience with the website has been so bad – culminating in this auto order – that I don’t think I will be ordering from Madison Reed again.

I have submitted complaints on these deceptive and obstructive subscription practices with the FTC and the CA Attorney General.

Nooootttt what they advertised really

I did a lot of research, I have been hearing about this brand for years through their ads, and the reviews were (mostly) good. So I trusted them. I was wrong to do so. My hair turned out NOTHING like the promised color. I spoke to someone about it, followed the instructions EXACTLY, and even took their color quiz to choose the perfect color for me. They did answer and give me a refund, though, so I am giving them 3 stars instead of 1.

Made appointment wasn't scheduled

I made an appointment on my laptop to get my hair colored. When I got there, I wasn't scheduled. Then to make it worse two employees told me I could use the app. I found out an app wouldn't have made a difference.

Slow shipping and consistent problems

I didn't make any change to my address on my account that has existed for a year; however, It was shipped to a wrong address and returned to the company. Shipping is already extremely slow (2 weeks to receive), and now I have to wait longer. Again, I didn't change the address on my account where I have been receiving shipments. I will be researching competing products to find Better service.

I bought Amalfi blond on amazon box said that but when i took the coloring cap off, it was dark brown. My hair is ruined even color oops wont take it off. Now I have to go to work with it.

Fabulous product and great follow up

Game changer

Usually, you can’t get good, cheap, and fast all at the same time — but Madison Reed is an anomaly ! They’re like an express salon, super quick and convenient. I’m usually done in about an hour and a half.

I love the color — it’s gentle, has no smell, and looks really natural. And the price? Insane. For $75 a month, you get unlimited root touch-ups! I go every 10 to 14 days, and that monthly fee is way less than what I used to pay for just one touch-up at my old salon.

If you want great color without spending forever or breaking the bank, this is it.

Madison reed policies …

I went to the Brentwood California beauty bar for Madison Reed, and it was horrible! They got hair dye on my shirt which I really didn’t wanna surrender, but I need to. The counter bar where I put my handbag was revealed when I took my handbag up there it was dye lying on the counter that wasn’t OK. After spending an hour plus dealing with this company online because you can’t get a person it’s all AI. They finally did the right thing and gave me a refund, but it took a lot to get any satisfaction! Use this company at your own risk, good luck.

I went for a color appt at Peachtree…

I went for a color appt at Peachtree Corners last week. My appt was at 4:45 I was early. When I walked in I was not welcomed. I finally said hello and they asked what I needed. I said I had a 4:45 appt. I sat down no one ever said another word. One stylist was doing someone hair. The other stylist was doing her own hair using the style mirrors. I was ignored I did not feel welcome. Why would I let these people touch my hair.
I wonder how that store does ! It was pretty empty only two stylist on a Saturday. Anyway my first and last time going. I would not recommend to anyone.
