Paid order, no Mac, confusing explanation — refund doesn’t erase the failure
I paid $14.99 for Macly’s daily Mac rental because I needed temporary Mac access for a time-sensitive professional project.
After payment, Macly’s own dashboard showed my order as Paid / Pending, with no device delivered.
I waited, contacted support, explained that I had already paid and that I was working against the clock, and eventually received an explanation that Stripe had supposedly flagged the payment as high-risk and that Macly had issued a refund.
The refund is appreciated, but it does not resolve the actual problem.
If Stripe had already rejected the transaction, I still do not understand why Macly’s own system showed the order as Paid rather than failed or declined. I also received no useful notification telling me that the order was never going to be fulfilled.
I specifically asked support to clarify:
whether the payment had actually been captured or merely authorised
when Stripe flagged it
when the refund/reversal was initiated
why Macly showed the order as Paid
Those questions were not answered before the support interaction effectively ended.
The issue here is not simply that a payment was refunded. Macly sells fast, temporary access to remote Macs. When someone is purchasing access specifically because they need a Mac quickly, showing them a Paid / Pending order and leaving them waiting for a machine that apparently was never going to arrive undermines the core product being sold.
I lost time waiting, troubleshooting and contacting support for a service I never received.
A refund restores the purchase price. It does not restore the time lost or explain why the customer-facing system said the order was paid when Macly later said the payment had been rejected.
I hope Macly fixes the failure path here: if a payment is rejected, tell the customer immediately and clearly. Do not leave them staring at a “Paid” order waiting for hardware that is not coming.
I will update this review if Macly provides a proper explanation.

Your payment was flagged by Stripe's automated fraud-prevention system, which assigns a risk score to every transaction. When a payment is flagged at this level, we're unable to fulfil the order, as doing so would create risk for both sides. The moment this was identified, we issued a full refund — within roughly 15 minutes of the order being placed. You were not charged for a service, and the full amount was returned to you promptly.
Regarding the "Paid" status: this reflects how the payment provider initially reports a transaction before a flag is finalised, and it's a detail we're refining so the status displays more clearly in these specific cases.
Our team responded to you in real time throughout, provided a clear explanation of the situation, and resolved it with an immediate refund. We're confident anyone reviewing the timeline will see the matter was handled quickly and fairly.
