I would give a 0 star if possible but…
I would give a 0 star if possible but as I cannot a 1 will have to do. I am currently visiting family in Ireland and am not familiar with public transport at all over here. When I tried to purchase a ticket the machines didn’t work and when it did it was extremely confusing and I didn’t understand at all. I am originally from wales and usually in wales you can purchase your ticket from the train conductor if you don’t understand the machine or simply just don’t have time to buy one, I assumed you could do this on this train as Ireland is still in the UK and this is the same throughout England ect. When the security asked for my ticket I asked if I could purchase one from him and he laughed in my face and said “yeah for £45” I took this as a joke and laughed it off only to realise it wasn’t a joke and he had stated I would be receiving a fine which I was in total shock and tried to explain my reasoning for not having a ticket. I payed the fine which in all honestly really upset me as I have never been fined in my whole life but what really got to me was the security was quite hostel which honestly sent me home crying. This has completely ruined my stay and made me see Ireland in a negative way, I will NEVER be using this transport again (the security also watched me cry for around 6 stops and laughed about it with the other 5 security).
Very Disappointing Experience with LUAS – Unprofessional and Aggressive Inspectors
I am writing this review not because we were caught without a ticket—quite the opposite, we always paid for our tickets properly. However, our experience with the ticket inspectors on the LUAS during our three-day stay in Dublin was extremely negative.
The inspectors, dressed in black uniforms, are consistently unfriendly, arrogant, and at times aggressive. In all the years we’ve used public transport, we have rarely encountered such unprofessional and unpleasant individuals. These inspectors behave more like an intimidating squad intent on harassing passengers rather than politely assisting them during ticket checks.
We were checked several times daily, and each encounter was unpleasant. A condescending and overbearing attitude was often displayed. If we didn’t respond immediately to their demands, their tone quickly became sharper, which is simply unacceptable.
This kind of customer service is completely inappropriate for public transport. Who wants to travel in such an environment? It’s a shame that LUAS failed to select a team that embodies professionalism and courtesy. Unfortunately, due to these negative experiences, we cannot recommend using LUAS in Dublin.
The behavior of these inspectors makes traveling with LUAS an unpleasant and stressful experience. Dublin has so much to offer, but this aspect of public transport leaves a bitter taste.
Taithí an-díomách le LUAS – Cigirí Míthrácha agus Ionsaitheach
Táim ag scríobh an léirmheasa seo ní mar gur gabhadh sinn gan ticéad—os a choinne sin, d’íocamar as ár dticéid i gceart i gcónaí. Mar sin féin, bhí ár dtaithí leis na cigirí ticéad ar an LUAS le linn ár dtréimhse trí lá i mBaile Átha Cliath thar a bheith diúltach.
Tá na cigirí, atá gléasta in éidí dubha, míthrácha, ardnósach, agus ionsaitheach ó am go chéile. I ngach bliain atáimid ag baint úsáide as iompar poiblí, is annamh a casadh orainn daoine chomh míthréithrialach agus míthaitneamhach. Gníomhaíonn na cigirí seo níos cosúla le scuad scanrúil atá tiomanta do bhulaíocht ar phaisinéirí seachas cabhrú leo go béasach le linn seiceálacha ticéad.
Rinneadh seiceálacha orainn cúpla uair sa lá, agus bhí gach teagmháil míthaitneamhach. Bhíodh dearcadh óinsíoch agus ardnósach le feiceáil go minic. Mura ndearnamar freagairt láithreach ar a n-éilimh, d’éirigh a dton guth níos géire go tapa, rud atá go hiomlán do-ghlactha.
Tá seirbhís do chustaiméirí den chineál seo mí-oiriúnach ar iompar poiblí. Cé ba mhaith taisteal i dtimpeallacht mar seo? Is mór an trua é gur theip ar LUAS foireann a roghnú a léiríonn gairmiúlacht agus béasaíocht. Ar an drochuair, mar gheall ar na taithí diúltacha seo, ní féidir linn moladh a thabhairt d’úsáid LUAS i mBaile Átha Cliath.
Déanann iompar na gcigirí seo taisteal le LUAS ina thaithí míthaitneamhach agus struis. Tá an oiread sin le tairiscint ag Baile Átha Cliath, ach fágtar blas searbh ó thaobh seo d’iompar poiblí.

Horrible inspector/customer services
Absolutely not
This is one of the most useless transportation services I have ever used. Never comes on time. If in a hurry to get somewhere DONT USE THE LUAS!! Currently been waiting 30 mins still nothing and the timetable digital board has been broken for the past 2 weeks. Worst thing I have ever used. They don’t even seem to care either.👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾
Lovely agent in luas
I would like to express that there is one of the agents who check the costumers travel in Luas Dublin who is ABSOLUTELY A LOVELY LADY..
I unfortunately don't know her name, but she's very often in the Luas green line in Dublin, she's got long black hair always tied up, has a lot of tatoos and very long nails.
That woman is just SO FRIENDLY, she makes everyone comfortable by the way she greets us in the luas when she asks to see our card. LOVELY 👌🏼👩✈️🚈🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🥰

This is the most unreliable public transportation you will ever come across. This service will ditch you when u need it the most. It’s in shambles.
Worst service
Worst service. I got fined from luas. I tapped the leap card in bus after that I had to take luas but unfortunately I was not aware of that I had to tap again when getting luas (I thought that I don’t have to tap for next 90 minutes). It was a genuine mistake not intentional. But the inspector caught me and fined me. He already knew that I taped in the bus and I told him that it was a genuine mistake. Or else why would I not tap the luas after ten minutes of tapping from the bus. I send an appeal and they said I don’t have a valid ticket. How could I have a ticket if I don’t tap it on luas. At least the inspector could have allow me to tap it from next luas station. And they say I will get a criminal record if I don’t pay the fine. I think they don’t know that we are human and human can mistakes. Anyway, I don’t have any problem to pay you 45 euro. It’s cheaper(as luas said it on the letter). So thank you so much for allowing me to pay the 45 euro. I really appreciate that. And I never taking luas ever again for travelling.
Rude staff and shamble of a service
Got fined for not tapping my leap card because their tap on machines are out of service and late for work. been taking Luas for years and watching people jumping on and off the Luas without paying all the time. Anti social behaviour all over the place. They are nowhere to be seen. The only thing they do is abusing their power to bully regular commuters and some random tourists who simply doesn’t understand the rule. Absolutely shame on them. The reality of ireland now. It’s an absolutely shamble. Advice if you can avoid use the service. Take the bus it might be slower but least you don’t get fined for their own system flaws.
Luas system doesn't respect the client
I would like to express my disagreement with the fine system of LUAS, a transport company that does not give customers the right to travel with the so-called 90-minute TFI fare.
Last week, 14/03, I validated my Leapcard at the Stillorgan stop at 6:36 am (2 euros paid with Leapcard 10330 54515 1022). I got off at O Connell GPO and went to the Abbey Street stop and validated again at 7:10 am. Luas only arrived at 7:14 am and I forgot that I had already validated and strongly concerned to pay... I validated it again. Then I saw the message TAG-OFF and validated again, reading immediately after the message JUST VALIDATED.
The inspector came towards me, I gave my Leapcard and it appeared as not validated. Why????
I explained that I was within 90 minutes, showed the validation history with three validations in 34 minutes. I was fined SFN l448213951 AT 7:20pm. Ref 1407126. There I owed nothing. I paid 2 euro for 34 minutes at 6:36 am. Then I filed a dispute form on the website and they kept the fine, despite my complete information with pictures of my Leapcard transactions as a proof of previous payment.
Unsatisfied as a customer, today I called to the call centre to understand the reason, and the attendant said that “I would have to validate the ticket when leaving tram for the first trip”. It is not written in ANY PLACE. I did it several times and was never been fined for that.
This is absurd. And I paid 2 euro to use it for 90 minutes. It is very easy to check all this movement. But LUAS DOESN’T CARE.
My question is: is it fair for a worker to pay a fine of 45 euros for not validating their exit from the first tram – and validating twice after that at the same stop in just 34 minutes - being inside the 90 minutes and considering that the person paid 2 euro??
Who cares about such injustice????
I paid the fine to not wait for a worse amount. And we don't have another transport. I need to use it everyday, crowded, delayed and feeling disrespected.
The entire Luas team
The drivers, security, and office team are so kind and helpful.
I had a bag taken as it turned out accidentally, but from the moment it happened, every person I met was so helpful and even arranged for me to get my bag back after it had been returned with all my belongings inside.
People only ever complain, but I was travelling solo and my laptop and clothes were inside, so the stress was high but they all helped and made the situation much better with their helpful and cheerful attitude.

Nearly 50% of the times getting the tram to the Point the operator announces that the this tram is now going to Connolly, it is really a joke, specially when is raining and the trams as packed with people, last Monday I was getting the tram at Spencer Dock, there was a tram due, to Saggart but when the tram was there suddenly went out of service, I tapped my leap card because the tram was due, then I had to walk because I wouldn't make it if I waited for the next tram (more than 20 minutes) the price is so expensive for the bad quality service given as passengers treated like cattle.

In last day off year it's first Luass to town. We stop in Red Cow we're this amazing black hair lady(staff member who checks tickets) with this amazing attitude to approach each person with kind words. It's so nice to see persons like this in mornings it's makes our day so much better.
Poor service overall
Poor service overall. Not aligned to the governments strategy to improve public transport. When complaint made response is rapid but poor. One email said services were under review. 2 weeks later said no plan to review!! Generally overcrowded during rush hours which is dangerous and unhealthy. There are too few trams in service during peak hours.
Commuters are left standing in the rain as shelters are too small and too open to the elements. Sometimes this can be 19-20 minutes- despite assurances saying they are scheduled every 2-4 minutes.
Also constantly changing destination with passengers having to get off to wait for the next tram or even the 2-3 trams later. Very poor reflection in public transport in Ireland.
What an anti social show on the…
What an anti social show on the redline LUAS tonight at 7pm got on at tallaght and a gang of teens got on swinging out of the bar behind the driver shouting and holding the doors open at certain stops . They were no more than 14 .i got hit off one the young fellas swinging in the air I told him to shut up and stand away and the ginger girl piped up to her pals further down that I had told her male pal to shut up they were scum no tickets paid for and they got off at Drimnagh and shouted abuse in the door at me why I pay for my ticket everyday baffles me when these knackers travel for free and provide anti social behaviour where were the LUAS security and where are the plain clothes cops after all the grief last Thursday in town . I don’t want to travel on the LUAS and I know lots of people won’t. So what are the LUAS going to do about it ??it was tram number 4007 if you are charging people to travel there is a responsibility on you to provide safe passage . Your customer service is a joke and it’s just an email with a number that relates to your enquiry
It’s not safe for normal people or visitors and the unsocial behaviour is rampant on this transport shame on transdev ..

Do the Luas allow electric scooters on their transport. I was on a luas this morning the driver had to make a sudden stop a lady nearly fell over the scooter. Who would be libel.

I was on the Green Line Luas.As soon as I got off Stillorgan I realized that I had forgotten a shopping bag.Contacted Broombridge customer service immediately.
The following morning I received a call to come collect my lost goods.
I just want to thank the staff , for their professionalism, kindness and respect while dealing with me over the phone and in person
The so called organisation who is…
The so called organisation who is carrying out the forever weekend engineering works on the green line, seem to have forgotten their customers. Each weekend there is engineering works, yet the luas people provides no bus service between the affected areas, to assist their customers, after all, we the customers has to take the bus or taxi to get to our destination which cost us to do so, but the most important activity for the luas is the harassment of their ticket inspectors, constantly asking literately each stop for your ticket. Now let's look at customer service here, first we have engineering works accepted, it has to be done. No link transport, so we have to pay again on the bus to get past the engineering work to carryon our journey and to add to that the inspectors, WHY? Unfair advantage. Lousy service. Learn customer service please
Too much random
- Monday-Friday: you can catch trams from around 5.30am in the morning until around 12.30am at night.
- Saturday: you can catch trams from around 6.30am until 12.30am at night.
- Sundays: you can catch trams from around 7.30am until 12pm at night.
The last Luas is really random. Sometimes you can catch it at 00:45, and sometimes you can't at 00:15.
I'm leaving near of a Luas Station, it's the 2nd time the Luas isn't working in a month, so we need to commute with Taxi or Bus.
Really annoying services.
Edit : There is only 2 lanes for the trams, and there is often technical issues. If you fill a complaint, they will answers with a template. Terrible services.
