Good consistent high quality experience
Our experience was great because we didn’t need to make a long term commitment. This gives us the flexibility to have our lawn in good hands while we travel or life gets too busy. The lawn care team was communicative in person. Our lawn care needs were met and I’m pretty happy with that.

The purpose of this review is to warn future customers and subcontractors of the egregious way that Lawnstarter is treating its customers and subcontractors. (Please note, this review is not written by AI.) This review is written by a disgruntled subcontractor who was terminated by Lawnstarter on December 27th after one customer dispute, and not allowed to prove his case. It has also been written to find out if enough people have been treated unjustly by Lawnstarter to file a petition for a class-action law suit.
The Better Business Bereau has several documented instances that justify a pattern of wrong-doings by Lawnstarter, however, each claim is bound by a region or specific geographical proximity to over 125 affiliated branches, and another company they acquired, so this makes each individual claim seem ambiguous and very small as it relates to the overall reviews and grand scheme of wrongdoings that Lawnstarter engages in. Negative situations such as this are hidden behind a huge amount of solicited 5-star reviews.
They acquired Lawn Love Inc., based out of San Diego California, in a cash-and-stock deal back in August of 2021, and since Lawn Love has several branches as well, this makes it extremely challenging for anyone trying to file a complaint against the company (Lawnstarter) as a whole. This review is designed to get a feel for the number of people who have been seriously injured by Lawnstarter, and who have lodged complaints that have gone unsettled, unanswered, and literally swept under the rug.
Subcontractors are getting railroaded because Lawnstarter has not implemented any form of arbitration or restitution for subcontractors who have been terminated or injured as a result of their negligent policies. Since we now know that both Lawnstarter and Lawn Love are the same company, the next step is to find out if there are enough customers and subcontractors out there reading this review, who have also been treated unjustly by this company?
A petition has been started in an effort to garner enough support and signatures to launch a class-action lawsuit against Lawnstarter. In order to keep this as a review, and not as a promotion for the proposed class-action suit, please Google “Demand Accountability from Lawnstarter.com” at Change.org to find out how to sign the petition and join the cause. This will hold Lawnstarter Inc. accountable for the injustices it continues to inflict upon its customers and subcontractors. One thousand signatures are needed to prove that a vast number of people have been adversely affected.
Here are the facts. Lawnstarter uses a flawed mobile app to charge a customer’s rescheduled jobs against the subcontractor, without giving him a chance to prove or refute the claim. These “reschedules” are then used against the subcontractor’s tier rating to inevitably determine how many future jobs he can get as well as how much money he can earn. Many times, after these reschedule percentages have been exploited against the subcontractor, he is demoted and kept at the Intro level, without recourse or restitution.
Reschedules can be proven through statistics accumulated by the app, but Lawnstarter won't allow it. They'll immediately delete the subcontractor from the app so that he has no way of proving his case. Lawnstarter told me that, “a reschedule is a reschedule, regardless of who initiated it,” but this inevitably went against my tier rating to keep me from advancing within their system. Lawnstarter’s tier rating has four levels – Intro, Blue, Silver, and Platinum. The highest level is Platinum and a subcontractor can achieve this level by completing a high percentage of jobs without rescheduling. Reaching this level gives the subcontractor the best choice of jobs, and Lawnstarter also promises to match his tips from each satisfied customer. However, at the Intro level, Lawnstarter doesn’t acknowledge the total amount a customer tips. They take a large portion of the tip from him until he reaches the Platinum level. At the Intro level, when a customer tips through the app, the subcontractor receives a text that says: “Congratulations, your customer was extremely pleased with your service and left you a $4.29 tip.” The problem is that they never tell the subcontractor what the total amount of the tip is. So, a subcontractor who has been kept at the Intro level, has to wait until he receives his tax statement at the end of the year to find out how much each customer tipped. The bottom line is; Lawnstarter’s doesn't allow its subcontractors to arbitrate or prove their case before they are terminated. When they terminated me, it took away my livelihood and ability to earn income without allowing a fair and equitable method of recource.

I’ve used LawnStarter for a while now, and it’s been fine. I understand that it’s just a lead generating company that works with independent contractors. However, I recently had an issue where a contractor marked on the app that they had completed a lawn mow, a bush trim, and a leaf removal (totaling ~$450 before tip) when in fact only the lawn mow had been completed. I tried to contact the provider directly but got no response. I went to LawnStarter customer service and they scheduled that same provider to come back out to complete the work. Due to rain they rescheduled that service. Then the rescheduled service day came and went and no response from the provider again. I reached out to LawnStarter again and suddenly the provider has rescheduled my service “due to weather” there was no inclement weather that day. I asked for my money back and the LawnStarter rep said that a refund would not be approved at this time. It has been a week since the initial issue and I’m beginning to think I will never see my money or get my promised lawn care.

would give zero stars if I could. This company completely ruined my ivy bed and provided absolutely no help through their customer service. To make matters worse, they denied my insurance claim without reasonable explanation. Furthermore, they reactivated account without notification, then charged us for a service we did not want. Extremely disappointing experience from start to finish. Stay far away from this company.
