I work as a proofreader already, and have done for some years, with many comments on the quality of my work. I thought I’d try this, and did enjoy most of the course, but the final test left me bewildered. I did terribly! After some very kindly encouragement from Becca, I’ve decided to have another go, at some point.

It’s great to hear that you enjoyed the course, but we’re sorry to hear the assignment didn’t meet your expectations.
You took the final assignment in April 2022, and things have changed a lot since then!
The assignment used to involve a minor formatting component, but this was removed from the test more than two years ago. In terms of the proofreading aspects, every error in the original text relates to something taught in the course, and the detailed feedback we provide pinpoints the relevant lesson so you can brush up on the material. If you need a copy of the feedback from your first attempt, just get in touch, and the tutors can find this for you!
We’re so glad to hear that you’re going to try again! Since you completed the course two years ago, we have developed new and improved mock assignments to give learners even more practice – please reach out to the tutors when you’re ready to get started again, and they’ll be happy to help!

The Knowadays Courses Are NOT Worth The Money
I do NOT recommend taking the Knowadays proofreading or editing courses. You will not "become" a proofreader or editor with either.
If you are interested in academic proofreading and/or editing in the academic or scientific fields then you may be happy with the course materials. However, having a degree at a masters level and higher seems to be a prerequisite for obtaining work -- no matter what courses you take as a novice.
The quality of the online course material for both proofreading and editing leaves a lot to be desired. Both courses are filled with errors, especially the editing course which has to make one wonder! Perhaps they need to hire a proofreader for the editing course. They love their "ensures" and "e.g.s," and you will have your fill of them by the end of course/s.
The Try It Yourself and exam materials are infuriating. They ask for one thing in the instructions and then provide answers (or inline comments) that defy explanation. Do not attempt anything to do with fact checking because you will NOT be able to compete with the tutors who I swear, are out to make you look like a fool.
I understand that if you pass both the proofreading and editing courses with a score of 80+, you will be eligible to work for FREE for Proofed until you complete a ten-document trial period. Then you will be able to work at a cut-rate fee and compete with hundreds of other Knowadays graduates. The work will most likely include ESL resumes and academic documents for university students.
I thought I did enough research before I paid for the Knowadays "bundled" courses. Needless to say, I did not. I wasted my money. It would be much better to join an editorial or proofreading organization and get to know the industry from people who have established careers and are qualified to give good advice as to where to invest money for education to "become" a proofreader or editor.
Based on Knowaday's reply, below, I confirm that my review is accurate. No one will become a proofreader or editor by taking the Knowadays courses. If anyone would like to pay the money and experience the frustration, I invite them to do so. Buyer beware.

We’re very sorry you weren’t happy with the quality of the course material and practical exercises. You emailed the team a few times while completing the course, and a tutor responded in detail each time to your questions and comments. It seems you only emailed regarding one of the Try It Yourself exercises, to which you received a thorough reply. You kindly flagged an issue with the answer options in one quiz question in Becoming A Proofreader, and we were able to correct the question for other learners because of this (for which the team sent their thanks!).
It doesn’t seem that you raised any other issues about the practical exercises or the accuracy of the course content with our team, although you were invited to send us any further questions.
Our tutor team works incredibly hard to answer queries, provide further information, and support learners’ progress through their courses. They are always on hand to help and do so with kindness, patience, and respect. If you feel this was not the case in any of the replies you received, please contact us directly, so we can investigate further and follow up if necessary.
Regarding the work guarantee with Proofed, new editors do not work for free during the trial period. All our materials, including our dedicated guaranteed work page, clearly outline the details of the offer and state that this is a paid trial. If you have found inaccurate information on another site, please let us know. Proofed does not expect editors to work for free, and we are proud to be able to offer distinction graduates the chance to access paid work soon after completing their training.
Yes, work at Proofed includes ESL texts and academic essays, along with every other type of document you could think of! As you scored over 80% in the final assignment in Becoming A Proofreader, you are halfway to finding out for yourself what work at Proofed entails.
It’s not clear why you think having a master’s degree is a prerequisite for obtaining work. Some proofreading agencies may ask for this level of education, but this is not a requirement of our courses or the work offer with Proofed.
When you first signed up to Knowadays, you had a lengthy call with a member of the tutor team, who discussed the courses with you, explained the processes involved, answered your questions, and described the value of the material in the context of your own experience and background. Further email conversations offered more information about the course and working as a professional proofreader.
The team will continue to answer your questions and offer support if you need it, and you are welcome to reach out to us anytime.

I highly recommend it!
First of all, I loved the content of the course. Everything was explained clearly and throroughly. Almost every time I had a question, it would be answered in the next paragraph! This points to how well this course was written and layed out.
The tutors were extremely helpful and answered any questions I had (the few that were not answered in the course itself) within hours - if not minutes. I highly recommend this course to anyone dreaming of becoming an editor!

Great experience
The course material was easy to understand without needed live instruction, and I liked that is you did need help, someone was always available. The tools needed to complete the course were free and easy to use. I enjoyed the whole experience.

A comprehensive proofreading course
The Knowadays learning tool is structured and the content is comprehensive. The resources and reference materials are great. The lessons are clear, and specific references and proofreading rules are made for the language, whether US or UK English.

Makes you do the hard work.
This program does more than just outline the principles of a freelance business. It makes you do the work. I had to consider how serious I was about freelancing as a career. Once I decided, I had to dig in to get the answers. (It was tough, but well worth it.) It also, brought things to my attention I hadn't thought about before. I read through the program once, then I decided to dig in. I am still working through it, applying all the applicable instructions.
All in all, I am glad I purchased the program and I believe my business will be built on a solid foundation.

Fantastic support from the tutor team
Working through the 'Becoming a Proofreader' course was a brilliant experience! The course is very engaging and covers a lot of information, so it's definitely great value for money (especially given that some other proofreading courses cost thousands!). I also appreciated the course's advice regarding the practical side of freelance proofreading (e.g. client communication).
The Knowadays tutors are also really supportive and helpful. When I emailed the tutor team to ask for clarification on some of the course material, I received a very detailed and friendly reponse (thanks Simon!).
I would definitely recommend Knowadays if you're thinking about working as a proofreader – or if you want to improve your communication/writing skills!

PROOF READING HARDER THAN I REALISED
Did not realise what was involved in proofreading professionally. I was a typist for 20 years plus, accurracy essential. The course IS harder than I expected, BUT, well written, easy to follow, quizzes. Began the course last year, stopped due to ill health, told to complete at my pace. The course is keeping me occupied (60% now complete) and could give me a part time income. GO FOR IT

Becoming a Proofreader course
I can't speak to the guaranteed work trial with Proofed because I haven't gotten that far, but I did enjoy the Becoming a Proofreader course. It took me 11 days to complete the coursework, including all the practice exercises, and then another 2 weeks to finish the final assignment, have it graded, and go over what I got wrong with one of the tutors. I passed with distinction (over 80%) on my first try with a few points to spare, which was great because it costs $75 each for a second and third try. My favorite parts of the proofreading course were the number of quizzes and practice exercises with accompanying answer keys to test whether you fully understood the material in each section and the wide-ranging information about the different industries where a proofreader can find work, as well as the different types of documents and styles that might be required. I'm looking forward to starting the Becoming an Editor course.

Knowadays–Yes!
Writing is hard work.
(Note: I'm a little nervous here in this review as I hope to avoid any grammatical errors:)
That said, I think Knowadays has delivered an effective online program that thoroughly covers and teaches the art of writing, or should I say, the artistry in support of the writing.
I have completed the Proofreading course and am now in the middle of the Editing course. The lessons are all easily digestible, with mini-quizzes and useful exercises. Support staff: All great!
Already working a business from home, I'm hoping to hone my previous writing skills into another pursuit. Whether it is with Knowadays/Proofed or independently, the learning gained here has been worthwhile.
