Booked thru Kemwel with a rental with Avis Rome. Avis Rome overcharged me and added options I did not want or ask for. Several hundred dollars. Pure deception. After several emails to customer service with Kemwel ( as they do not offer customer service by phone), I received ZERO responses. They do not stand behind their contracts and they will NOT go to bat for you and try to resolve any issues after the rental. Will avoid in the future, terrible third party provider.

A very good company that provides excellent service

I’ve used Kemwel for all of my overseas car rentals for over 20 years. I guess I was just lucky. This time around my luck ran out. The rental car company (Avis) had an issue processing credit cards for the security deposit that they routinely hold when renting. Each time however we called Discover and they said the charge was approved. So the issue was on the Agency’s end. In the end, Avis, the company Kemwel contracted with in Malaga, Spain, refused us the car. We went to Sixt and rented a car, now for more money, using the same Discover card that Avis claimed didn’t work. I figured we’d have no problem getting the prepaid voucher amount back from Kemwel since we didn’t get the car. Think again! Kemwel’s contract is loaded with sneaky gotchas that let them keep your money. Basically they say they’re only in the reservation business and they’re not responsible for anything that happens with the actual rental agency. They say they’ve fulfilled their end of the contract by giving you a discount reservation rate even if you don’t get the car. They say you have to cancel (for a fee) 48 hours in advance of the rental pickup time or no refund. If you have issues at the time of the rental then you need a time machine to rectify that one! Or you could have paid them even more money at the time of the reservation for a “cancel anytime” privilege. If the trip is a go who would think that is needed? In any event, thanks for nothing Kemwel. You’ve lost my business after 2 decades!

I’ve dealt with them in the past they have always treated me fairly.This is my 35 X to Italy so Im keenly aware of how things function in Italy.If they have a diesel in stock of course I’ll take it.

On the negative side: multiple tiers of pricing, depending on the level of protection (Basic Rate, Inclusive Rate, Zero Deductible) yet with additional add-ons even after I've selected which tier. This page of add-ons makes comparison of the actual price unnecessarily difficult and gives me the uneasy feeling that it just isn't a clear price.

Great website that is easy to use and navigate. More information should be available about the specifications of the auto, mileage, hybrid etc.

We were given a rental with Dryyve in Budapest when we booked through Kemwell. The GPS we got was a plug in to the cigarette lighter version. The data is not up to date. Car has a service engine light on. We had to take a cab to the Dryyve desk at the airport. It is far away. The man at the Dryyve desk told us that Kemwel refuses to update the phone number for Dryyve even though they have been told repeatedly they are giving the wrong number to customers.

I have booked at least 20 car rentals in Europe with Kenwel. They always have the best rates and the zero deductible option is the only way to go. For the few times I actually needed to speak to someone in person, an agent was immediately available and very helpful.

Leasing is a better option compared to renting for a longer stay. Pricing was competitive and included zero deductible insurance. Past experience is the pick-up and return process is less than 15 minutes.
