We had a Great experience with Jumbo rental car company! The staff were waiting for us at the airport, they were very helpful and knowledgeable. They just opened this car rental company in Liberia by the airport.
We come to Costa Rica regularly and this will be this new rental company. We are very impressed with their costumer service!

Would recommend no one go through this company.
The car broke down, terrible service and increased charges.

1. They did not pick us up at the arranged time from the airport. They were one hour late, despite us calling them that we had arrived and they stated they were “five minutes away”
2. They charged us two hire car deposits rather than one, and did not return our hire car deposit. Following the return to our home country it took our bank 2 weeks to return the money to our accounts.
3. The break pad fell off the Suzuki jimney in the middle of the jungle, and the breaks failed. After taking it to a mechanic and they assessed the problem. Jumbo car took 3 hours to respond to us notifying them of the problem, and did not provide support. Despite approval; the receipt, we still paid the repair out of our own pocket.
4. They charged us for a tiny crack on the windshield, saying it was $445 dollars, and upon charging us charged $455. When told they charged the incorrect amount; they “refunded” the $455 but it never came through and charged an additional $445.

They took our money, provided us with an unsafe car and failed to provide the service as promised.
I would suggest not going with this company.
It was a scam

Súper buena elección para rentar un auto. Nos recogieron en el aeropuerto y nos llevaron a las oficinas, no había el tipo de auto que pagamos pero nos dieron un upgrade de auto sin pagar nada más. No hubo cargos sorpresas, fue bastante rápido recogerlo y devolverlo. Sin duda, muy buenos y amigables en las oficinas

A fuir ! a fuir ! a fuir ! Je mets une étoile mais ils ne la méritent même pas. Nous avons loue un 4x4 jimny pour 10 jours au Costa Rica. A la prise du vehicule (assez expéditive ) et malgré la pénombre et la pluie nous signalons 3 impactes sur la carrosserie du vehicule.
Pas de problème pour eux. A la restitution la femme qui n’avait pas la même amabilité qu’à la prise du véhicule constate des micros impacts sur le pare brise (invisibles à l'oeil nu), nous ne pouvions les apercevoir qu’avec avec la lumière du téléphone. Elles nous facture alors 400 euros sous prétexte qu’ils doivent changer le pare brise, et que c’est le règlement du pays et de l’entreprise. Nous vérifions alors sur les autres véhicules mis en location qui ont qui les mêmes impactes. Ensuite Ils nous disent qu’il n’appliqueront pas la facture mais ne veulent pas nous donner de justificatif et nous disent qu’en retour nous ne pourrons pas bénéficier de leur navette pour nous emmener à l’aéroport prévu au contrat. Nous tentons de résoudre au départ gentiment la situation mais rien ni fait alors nous haussons le ton et là elle appelle la Police et nous débite les 400 euros. Une fois arrivée la police tente de débloquer la situation mais rien n’y fait et nous explique que ce n’est pas la 1ere fois que cela arrive et que cette entreprise aurai des difficultés financières. Finalement ce sont eux qui nous ont ramené gentiment à l'aéroport. Bref cette agence présente des tarifs défiants toute concurrence mais on comprend pourquoi car finalement cela nous a coûté plus cher que chez un loueur qui a a fait ses preuve style avis ou europcar qui sont en plus situés au sein de l’aéroport.

Je précise que ces impacts étaient forcement présents lorsque nous avons récupéré le véhicule mais nous n’avons pas pris la peine de vérifier avec une lampe ( et nous n’avons jamais eu à le faire avec les autres sociétés de location ) Dans tous les cas au regard de la réponse c’est bien la mauvaise foi qui domine car nous avons roulé 10 jours avec et pour autant le pare brise ne s’est pas fendu ! C’est ce qui s’appelle de l’escroquerie et comment ne pas s’énerver face à cela.

These people are real crooks. They charged us for a windshield crack/dot on the windshield that we didnot do!

When we took the car, the guy doing the inspection did not inspect the windshield. He went around with a clip board and just observed the body of the car which by had scratches and damages. This was not a new car, it had prior damage and had 38,000 km on it. We took pictures of the damages on the body of the car, but he didnt look at the windshield at all or point out this "dot."

We drove the car locally, and did not have any rock as they claim hit the windshield. If we did we would gladly report and pay for it!

Well we returned the car after 3 days, and they went to do the inspection of the car and magically found this "dot" on the windshield which she couldnt even see without leaning it and cleaning the windshield.

They are passing other peoples damages on to us, and charging us $435 bucks for something we didnt even do! They also charged us insurance for each day but said that the windshield isnt covered. The guy who inspected the car, was there and he said he inspected the body of the car which we followed him while he was doing it and when asked if he checked the windshield, he didnt want to say anything. He didnt even check!!!!!!

We will be disputing with Expedia and will report them to banks, and all over the net!

BE AWARE of these crooks!

Dont bother responding to our review unless you got proof, which you dont! The guy inspecting did not take pictures or even look at the windshield!

Absolute shambles of a company. They prey on holidaymakers especially families. Read the reviews before renting.
I’d give 0 if possible.
We hired through them with Jumbo car rental in San Jose, Costa Rica. The car started making noises mainly on braking within 50kms but we were on our way to catch a ferry. When we retrieved the car 2 days later, the noises persisted intermittently. We reported it and were asked to submit a recording. Bizarrely they banned us from driving the car and would only supply us with a new one if we agreed to pay an extortionate sum of money whilst they ‘inspected’ the car. Rather than have a local mechanic assess it, they insisted upon sending a collection truck at our expense. Nearly a week later their mechanic finally came back with a diagnosis of overheated brakes which cost them $40 to resolve. We were charged $900 for this and the collection, when it was neither our fault and equally could have been addressed by a local mechanic. We had done less than 300km in total in the car on the flat with no accident.
Clearly looking at other reviews, this is a tactic they use especially with families with young children. This behaviour is extremely despicable and the owner should not be allowed to trade.
Use at your peril.

No confiábamos demasiado en ninguna empresa de alquiler de coches porque siempre hay cargos extras en cuanto a seguros, sobre todo. Finalmente nos decidimos por jumbo cars para alquilar un 4x4 para nuestro viaje por Costa Rica y estamos muy satisfechos con la experiencia. No hay sorpresas, lo que contratamos en España fue lo que pagamos. Son profesionales, rápidos y están cerca del aeropuerto. Hay que entregarlo en condiciones, puede estar sucio pero no con signos de haber sido demasiado descuidados. Nosotros no lo llevamos al lavacar antes de la entrega, por lo que tenía arena, polvo… pero del uso diario. Lo recomiendo.

Rented a 4x4 for 2-weeks in June. Jumbo impressed me with their professional staff; clean office, and pristinely clean vehicle. I had a puncture during my trip (there was a spare and a jack the boot) and I was even more impressed when they didn’t charge me any extra for using the spare. I don’t usually leave reviews for car hire companies but felt compelled to because of their excellent service.

I don’t usually review car hire companies but wanted to as we had an excellent experience. Both check out and in were quick, with staff very friendly and clear in explaining what we needed to know. The price was reasonable and included all compulsory insurance, and this was clearly stated. Would highly recommend this company

Through rentalcover.com, I booked with Jumbo Cars in San Jose (Costa Rica). The insurance I booked through Rentalcars (320.00 euros) was not accepted by Jumbo Cars. I had to purchase another insurance from Jumbo Cars for 780.00 US dollars, or I could pay a deposit of 32,000.00 US dollars.

We had a long flight with our young children, so I had no choice but to purchase the extra insurance. There was no form of compassion. No warm welcome in such a beautiful country.

Although terrible traffic meant that it took almost 2 hours to get from the airport to Jumbo Car, the rest of our experience was exemplary. The staff were very helpful (speaking good English too), and the car was almost brand new (it wasn't permanent 4-wheel drive, but did have a 'snow' option, which was handy on some of the rougher roads). Drop off was very smooth and quick. Although I was initially concerned about the $1,000 deposit we had to find, and was a little worried that it was not returned to us immediately, it seems that the money was never in fact taken out of our account, only set aside, and this was wiped out soon after we returned the car. Overall, a very positive experience.

We rented a Suzuki Jimny for 30 days. We drove around the normal routes in Costa Rica. Where at one point the transmission broke down. We were in the middle of nowhere on a hill STUCK! This was our 4th time driving this road, so we knew how to do it.

Luckily a local person helped us and towed us to his home. Also he called and arranged everything with Jumbo Car, also the pick up of the car. Yes, you read this well. Jumbo car was not intended to pick us up. We were in the middle of nowhere with our next stay 2,5h drive from there. Luckily the guy who picked us up wanted to bring us to our destination for $ 250,- a lot of money, but, Jumbo cars would pay if the damage was not our fault (which we knew it wasn’t).

The mechanic guys that came to pick up the car immediately checked the transmission oil, which we both saw, was very low. So we asked them, what do you think the problem is? They said it was a maintenance problem, the oil was low so the automatic transmission got overheated (not our fault). Happy and with good faith we went to our next stay and hoped for a message from Jumbo cars. The next day they said to us “Hello, good morning. We are just waiting for the mechanics to check the car, during the day We let you know about the process”

So, we did not hear anything that day and I had to text again myself the next day. When she said “transmission box was over heated cause misuse of the gear and 4 wheel drive” which was definitely not the case, we know how to drive a car and we knew from the 1st mechanic that the oil was low. (we took pictures of the whole car, but because of the long wait and it was dark already we off course forgot to take a picture of the transmission oil level)

The car was badly maintained and now they pin the damage to us. I think because we have an insurance with booking.com and they this. Their statement to us was “no worries, your insurance or credit card provider is going to cover it anyway”. Sounding like they do this more often and let the insurances of their customers pay for their badly maintained car!!!

The Suzuki also had really old tires on it, and the new car we got had a hole in the bottom plate of the car (which my boyfriend saw after laying under the next car we got to check everything because we didn’t trust them anymore). But they say they maintain their cars very well??!

I would definitely NOT recommend to rent a car here, these people are con artists and lie to you in your face and use their power because they know your a tourist and do not speak the language.

A la lecture des avis sur les loueurs "classiques", j'étais un peu inquiet sur la qualité et la probité des loueurs de voiture à San José. Les arnaques qui consistent à doubler le prix de la location initiale avec une assurance le plus souvent inutile, des rayures de carrosseries surfacturées, des cartes de crédit jugées non valides au dernier moment, semblent y être largement répandues... Rien de tout cela avec Jumbo Car que je recommande. Il faut appeler à l'arrivée en sortie de l'aéroport, 5 mn après arrive une navette. en 15 mn vous récupérer une voiture propre et en excellent état. Idem au retour : un check out avec restitution de caution en 5mn. Merci à l'équipe locale !

Peor experiencia en Costa Rica con esta compañía. Después de contratar un seguro que cubría llantas y vidrios resulta que desafortunadamente pinchamos en la zona de Corcovado y nos cobraron 360$ por traer la llanta hasta donde estábamos. Nos sentimos completamente estafados por esta compañía y no la recomendamos a nadie. Matrícula: BVY971

Worst experience in Costa Rica with this rental car company. After taking out a car insurance that covered tires and car windows, it turned out that unfortunately we had a puncture in the Corcovado area and they charged us $360 to bring the tire to where we were. We feel completely ripped off by this company and do not recommend it to anyone. Plate number: BVY971

We had a great experience with Jumbo car hire and would highly recommend them. Not only was it much cheaper than some of the better-known companies but there were no hidden charges and we paid exactly what we expected to pay. We heard lots of people have problems with extra insurances, etc, but everything went smoothly and there were no surprises on pick-up or drop-off. Staff were friendly and responsive, and the car was in great condition. Thanks for a great trip - would definitely use Jumbo again.

Superbe expérience avec jumbo car. Échange en amont via WhatsApp, une fois à l'aéroport, un message et ils arrivent nous chercher. Formalités rapides, récupération de la voiture nickel. Au retour, l'avion a été décalé au lendemain, nous avons pu garder la voiture sans supplément, top. Merci encore, vous êtes très professionnels et en plus super sympa. Côté tarifs vous êtes également au top. Je recommande vivement.
