This is by far my favorite of several podcasts for french learners (I am attempting to revive my ancient college french). Hugo has an amazing ability to make fascinating and complex subjects accessible to my advanced beginner level. I listen to them daily and discuss the topic of the day with my family at dinner. I am so happy to have found this resource!

Although my level of French is B2, this course really helped me review all the critical grammar. I am so amazed by the well-made quality of the learning material.

Taking the course Build a Strong Core has been a truly rewarding experience. After listening to many of the Inner French podcasts and watching the YouTube videos, I was ready for a more structured program, and BSC fit the bill perfectly. Looking forward to Raconte ton Histoire to get me comfortably to level B2. Thank you Hugo.

This is an excellent course. There is a great deal of emphasis on motivation to really help students stay on track and spend real time every day listening and thereby absorbing vocabulary, grammar, fast French, and generally pushing harder than most other courses. Hugo has a great talent for pacing the material so that students are making genuine progress based not (too much) on memorization but on training their brains similar to how children learn.

Great experience! It's intensive, but you can study at your own pace, as the course never expires. Comfortable material presentation, simple explanation, and moderate Hugo's speech speed make learning enjoyable. All the rules are given with examples (not just "dry" grammar), and tests at the end of a unit help to memorize better. During the course, I learned many curious and surprising things about France and the Francophones' world in general, which I'm thankful for.

Build a strong core was such a great B1 course. Thirty lessons and quizzes, interesting content, great explanation of key grammatical concepts, instructors quick to respond to questions. Would highly recommend the podcasts as well, have helped me so much.

This is a great website, the podcasts are perfect to refresh your school French, the courses are smart and enjoyable (but not easy). And everything is a pleasure to use, with modern design and good technology. Overall my best web based learning experience I can wholeheartedly reccomend.

J'ai adoré les podcasts d'InnerFrench sur lesquels je suis tombée en ligne, suffisamment pour essayer le cours en ligne « Build a Strong Core ». C'était génial - je ne voulais pas que ça se termine ! J'ai trouvé que c'était un mélange intéressant de grammaire, de vocabulaire et d'exploration culturelle. Je me suis déjà inscrite au nouveau cours, « Les connais-tu ? » Je le recommande vivement !

Great course "Raconte ton Histoire". One of the best courses for those at the intermediate French level

This is such a well thought and highly detailed french course. It really is exceptional and just what I needed. What I really like, apart from the structure is that once purchased the course is available to use again and again. I am now re-doing the course to immerse myself once again before starting the B2 course.

There is feedback available if required, and the tutors are so helpful and prompt with any queries.

I am amazed at the level of detail of this course. Highly recommended!

'Build a Strong Core' is a program that does exactly what the name says... it is very well crafted and plugs the gaps that are missing. I had been trying to do it on my own for a while but this course has saved me months, possibly years... The phonetic exercises and videos of French speakers, although difficult at first, were particularly helpful and I find myself amazed at how much more French I understand when it is being spoken fast in the real world.
Throughout, there is also a feeling of great understanding and empathy from Hugo which is appreciated when the French-learning journey is challenging. In short, a highly recommended program and huge thanks to Hugo!

Fantastic course, highly recommended. The interviews are interesting and help improve your listening comprehension while the culture sections deepen your understanding of French culture. Both set up the grammar sections, which are explained clearly and reinforced with several comprehension quizzes afterward. It's a challenging course but very effective, and one you can revisit multiple times.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing the course and then repeating it to consolidate my learning. Hugo is easy to understand and very encouraging.

I’ve listened to many of the innerFrench podcasts, viewed many innerFrench videos, and I recently completed the innerFrench course “Raconte ton histoire”. I strongly recommend inner French.
I’ve learned a lot of very useful vocabulary and expressions from InnerFrench. And the podcasts, videos and the “Raconte ton historie” course are incredibly interesting. I look forward to new podcasts and videos, and I just started the advanced course “Visages de Paris”.
Another big advantage of innerFrench in my view is Hugo’s (innerFrench’s Director) teaching style— clear, easy to understand, friendly and supportive, which I really appreciate.
Intermediate level learners looking to improve their French on line should seriously consider innerFrench.

I've been listening to the Inner French Podcast for a few years now, which is how I discovered Build A Strong Core. I appreciate Hugo's teaching style—it's clear and comprehensive, whereas with other teachers, I often find myself with many follow-up questions. Most recently, I thoroughly enjoyed Raconte Ton Histoire, and I can see myself revisiting the course in the future. There's a chapter with nuanced explanations of les prépositions de lieu that would have been incredibly useful earlier in my learning journey, and I’m so grateful that Hugo included it.

At the beginning of the course, I felt intimidated, but with patience, I rewatched many of the interviews multiple times, and by the end, I truly felt my listening comprehension had improved. I also noticed a difference in my ability to understand French in other outlets, such as videos on YouTube—I’m no longer as intimidated when I click on a video, and I can pick up much more than before.

At first, I relied on reading the transcripts before watching the videos, but by the end, my approach had flipped—I started by watching the videos a couple of times to see how much I could understand, then used the transcript to check my comprehension. It made the learning process really enjoyable. The interviewees have fascinating stories, and now I really want to visit Chernobyl! As of now, there are two additional Inner French courses that I plan to take.

I'm a long-time listener of the InnerFrench podcast, which was what first led me to the 'Build Your Strong Core' course for learners of intermediate French. I haven't formally learnt French for at least 20 years and although my reading and listening levels aren't bad, I know that my grammar is rusty and I'm not confident in speaking or writing. I'm really glad that I did the course - over the 30 days, I feel I made a lot of progress in my comprehension but also deepened my understanding of aspects of grammar that had eluded me so far (for example, when to use "il est" as opposed to "c'est"). Key grammar points are explained clearly with an excellent range of exercises to help you put the theory into practice. There are still elements that I need to revise (bonjour, relative pronouns!) and I will be able to do that through the course materials and exercises as you get lifetime access. I thoroughly recommend the course, and have already signed up for two other InnerFrench courses.

I have been trying on and off to learn French since about age 35 ( I am now 81) I bought various courses in that time, visited France often but had little success. After seeing Hugo on YouTube I bought his ‘Build a Strong Core’ course. After 4 days of the 30 day course I shelved it for a year, deciding that online speaking with a French speaker would be better. Still little progress. Finally I knuckled down and sat every day for a month ploughing through the course and got to understand the basic nuts and bolts of the French language which is vital for making any progress. Basically I had had the jigsaw with 5000 pieces in front of me for all those years. Hugo’s course was the lid of the box with the picture showing me where all those pieces fitted in.

I absolutely love the InnerFrench podcast and eventually decided to purchase the Build a Strong Core course once I felt like I was at the appropriate level. I am so happy I did! This course felt like it was made for me - Hugo & team picked the exact topics that I struggle with and broke them down in easy to understand ways with a lot of targeted exercises for practice. I've gone through the course in its entirety and I plan to go back through the videos and exercises multiple times (you have access forever, including any updates made in the future). This course gave me much needed structure and I look forward to taking the other courses in the future
