What I liked: the price.
What I didn't like: the food. The menu options are very unique in regard to what I'm used to in the United States. Most meals lacked flavor and the options seemed to weigh heavy on Indian cuisine. Had an incident with the first delivery being misdelivered by the 3rd party shipping company but was refunded.

Taste is so personal, and you're right that our menu reflects the chefs we work with, many of whom specialise in South Asian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking, so the flavour profiles can be quite different from what you might be used to in the US. There's a wider variety beyond Indian dishes on the menu too, including Italian, Greek and Thai comfort food, so worth a browse if you ever fancy giving us another go.

I like the way the driver called Ramel…
I like the way the driver called Ramel is always on time and friendly. Also the way I can email Octavian when I am having any issues on the computer ordering my weekly food, skipping a week, etc. I am still also really enjoying the food.

I enjoyed the food tasting
I enjoyed the food tasting, balance, and portions. The only issue I found was that the packaging was poor — not suitable for store storage, preservation, or oven cooking. For example: the last delivery box came with a spill of sauce from one of the dishes.

Amazing taste, would recommend
After trying many different services we came across this one and stuck to it - the meals are absolutely delicious, the flavours are great in every meal we had so far, and we tried about 20 of them already.
Good variety of veg and meat dishes, and when one time a meal did not arrive they re-sent it straight away (with a small compensation bonus no less)
Only drawback so far is the meals repeating each week, but there is so much choice it has not been much of a problem so far for my girlfriend nor I :)

Used to be amazing, degrading now …
My fave meal from home cooks used to be Beef Bourguignon but since they changed it recently, it’s not as good as it used to be before. It used to give home cooked, delicious and satisfaction when eaten. Now, the packaging has improved to being more sustainable and the plastic no longer breaks. But the actual recipe is now worse because they have added veg but that means there is less meat and the quality of meat is worse because you get a lot of fatty bits so about 25% of the meat has to be thrown out. So it’s giving we’re trying to save money by adding veg to seem healthy but actually we’re trying to decrease the amount of meat we add and the quality of it to reduce on costs. I wouldn’t say it’s a cheap option for a frozen meal, so it’s sucky that they’re starting to compromise on quality already this early on in their business.

Food is awful. Automatically added 2nd order after one-time purchase
It is not clear that this is a subscription. I made what I thought was a one-time purchase, only to receive a second delivery the following week.
You already know this since the first option in your list of reasons for cancelling a subscription was "Thought it was a one time purchase"
This is scam to get a second order - probably knowing that you would not otherwise get return business. This is not the behaviour of a reputable company
Some of the recipes did included additives.
The food was not authentic, at best average, most is sloppy and inedible. And definitely not chef quality. The portion sizes are small with low protein content. They are not good value for money. The advertising is false.

On the subscription point — HomeCooks is, and has always been, a subscription service. This is made clear at checkout, where customers are informed before completing their order that they are signing up to a recurring delivery. It's also explained in our FAQs on the website. A reminder email is sent ahead of every upcoming order, giving customers the opportunity to skip, change or cancel their delivery. Every customer has full access to their subscription account at any time, where they can pause, skip or cancel deliveries themselves without needing to contact us.
The cancellation reason you've referenced exists in the dropdown because we want to capture every reason customers cancel, including misunderstandings, so we can keep improving how we communicate the subscription model. It's there to help us, not to indicate that the model itself is unclear.
We're not in the business of taking orders from people who don't want them — that's why the skip, pause and cancel options are built directly into every customer account and flagged in every reminder email.
On the food itself — taste is subjective and we're sorry it wasn't for you. Our meals are developed by independent chefs and produced in food-safety accredited kitchens, with full ingredient and nutritional information published on every product page. If there are specific dishes you tried, we'd genuinely welcome the detail so we can pass it to the relevant chefs.

Misleading pictures, mix of fresh and frozen
Half the meals were fresh (chilled) half were frozen. No indication as to why this should be. Some ingredients (slaw) clearly not suitable for freezing and I'm not looking forward to trying them. My first meal was the chicken satay. Unlike in the photos, the protein (chicken) was in one of the smaller compartments; the biggest was filled with a huge congealed lump of rice. Tasted ok, but threw a lot of the rice out.

Delicious, healthy and trouble free
The meals are delicious and you can tell time has been taken to prepare these properly. I was previously a Hello Fresh and Gousto customer but simply could not find the time to prepare and cook if working late. Quality and taste are excellent. I’ve tried a few meal prep companies and HomeCooks help me hit my protein goals without sacrificing enjoyment for my food.
Solid selection of dishes / cuisines, super flexible service and fast customer support. The eco conscious packaging is also a great aspect of this box too.
