I’ve worked alongside HOKO on a number of projects now, and I can honestly say they are excellent to deal with. As a builder, having clear and detailed drawings makes a huge difference on site, and their plans are always well prepared and thought through.

On the occasions where we need additional information, whether that’s sizes, details, or clarification not already shown on the drawings.HOKO respond quickly and get us what we need without delay. That level of communication really helps keep projects running smoothly and on schedule.

They’re professional, organised, and easy to work with, and they consistently provide a steady stream of quality projects. I’d highly recommend HOKO to anyone looking for a reliable and proactive architectural team.

I first contacted Hoko hoping to rejig the ground floor of our semi-detached house with the intention of adding a Bathroom and Utility room. Our existing kitchen was out-dated and we had a bit of 'dead' space in an underused dining room. As novices to planning/building regs and costs, we took up the Viability workshop and Cameron presented the first design concept and rough costs. We approved of most of it - mindful that Cameron was been boxed in a bit by our budget! We upped our spend a bit to give extra space in our new kitchen/diner area. The rest of the renovation used the existing space efficiently as per Cameron's design.

We opted to carry on with the Delivery process and the plan evolved some more going forward with Simon. He led us through the more formal design and planning stage, We are happy to say the build went out to tender and Hoko recomended suitable builders for our project - all within a year of our very first contact. I'd commend Simon and Cameron for their professionalism during the process and we are excited to see the end result very soon.

As clients we did not see-saw much around different plans. Hoko and ourselves mosty stuck to the brief and we trusted the process. From memory we moved a window and created a new door before the design was submitted for planning.

The aspects of Hoko that were really convenient for us was the email contact, online bookings/billing/documents/signatures. Hoko are very clear mapping out timescales for navigating through the delivery process. I was very satisfied that everything was being taken care of and it was relatively stress-free which was why we were attracted to Hoko.

I engaged HOKO Design (Glasgow) for a residential project and paid £2,580 for their project viability workshop and concept stage.

Unfortunately, the outcome did not reflect my brief and has left me with no usable material.

The brief included clear priorities such as driveway extension, garden development, and specific internal layout requirements. What was ultimately provided was limited to a single sketch and kitchen visuals that did not align with the agreed direction. The whole exercise that took unusually long (several months) and did not align with any budget discussed. No developed garden plans were shared at all, and key details were either missed or altered from what was discussed.

When I raised concerns, there was no structured review process offered to properly realign the design. Instead, I was advised by Simon that further development would require moving into the next stage at an additional cost of approximately £21,000. I was effectively being asked to commit to significant further fees before the initial concept aligned with the brief.

I formally requested a refund. That request was not directly addressed. The only option presented was to pay for additional workshops or progress further in the paid process, again by Simon.

At no stage did I sign off confirming that I was satisfied with the concept stage.

I have since engaged another experienced design company who delivered aligned, professional plans very clearly, quickly and efficiently, which suggests the issue was not project complexity but process and service delivery.

HOKO has a strong online presence and polished brand positioning. However, my experience did not reflect the collaborative and structured process that is presented publicly.

I remain open to a professional and constructive resolution and would welcome engagement from the business owner to review the matter properly.

We used Hoko for a small extension and garage conversion. Simon made the whole process stress free, if you’re looking for a one stop shop for building work I’d definitely recommend Hoko

Misleading from the outset.

We discussed our requirements and budget (£65k) clearly from the beginning. During the initial visit to our home, we explained what we wanted, and when we later visited the studio, we noticed that the main feature — the master bedroom — was missing. To their credit, they rectified this on the spot. However, this should have been there on first design!

However, the second studio visit was a horrendous and awkward experience. Despite having emphasized our £65k budget multiple times, we were presented with a plan that was more than double that amount! I had to stop them mid-presentation, yet they continued explaining the plan, completely disregarding the budget constraints we had repeatedly stressed.

In the end, we wasted over £2.5k with nothing but a CAD to show for it. An incredibly disappointing experience with Hoko — a real waste of time and money.

Not the experience I’d hoped for: I’ve spent several frustrating months with very little communication, waiting 4 weeks to get an updated plan based on discussions and feedback that I’d had from the outset, where none of my initial feedback was taken into account.

This was all compounded by a key part of the build being missed - the roof, resulting in an almost doubling of the initial estimates.

So disappointed to have to write this but I wouldn’t want anyone else to have this experience and their time wasted. Despite showing the VR as part of the viability workshop in advertising, it is not part of the initial workshops at all.

We have an old cottage that needed reconfigured and an extension added to it. Great designs and initial service from Fraser the architect who sadly left just as the project started. It resulted in a glitch with communication with building control and engineers etc which cost us a few weeks delay.

However, once we got back on track the support and advice from Adam was exceptional. He really was on our side and as I did the project myself with individual trades his help advice and support was brilliant and just what we needed.

I would have said 5 out of 5 had we not had the glitch but bottom line is we love the new space we now have AND we got great technical support to get us across the line... so thank you Hoko and Mark in particular!

We have had a great experience with HOKO. we had a tricky layout to make work and HOKO managed to come up with a layout that was the best use of the space and worked well for us. They handled the applications and planning efficiently and we would definitely recommend them.

We had a very good experience with HOKO. The team led by Cameron were great and provided a great package of drawings and helped us with our building warrant application, which helped everything to go smoothly. The 3D visualisation really helped to bring the proposal to life for us. We liked that everything was straightforward and we knew what we would be getting at each stage in the process.

Communication was very good and the team were prompt in responding to queries.

The whole process from initial concept to final completion more than met our expectations. Danny and Fraser have always been on hand for support when we needed them.

Used Hoko for my loft Fraser the architect was very helpful from start to finish constantly kept me updated also recommended the builders what a fabulous job done would highly recommend.

Used Hoko for a medium scale bungalow renovation. We worked with Catherine who was really helpful from the outset. She explained what they do, outline of costs and the entire process against what our intentions were. Fully supported throughout the phases. Highly recommend.

We were fortunate enough to work with 2 architects from HOKO, Caroline and Fraser, and both were fantastic. The concept stage took ages - all down to us, not HOKO - and toward the end of the process Caroline left the company and Fraser took over. The handover couldn't have been any simpler or smoother, and nothing was lost during this time. Fraser picked up exactly where Caroline left off and ran with the project as if he'd been on it from the beginning. We used HOKO to take us through the planning phase, which they did with ease, very much taking the sting out of it for us. I thoroughly recommend them and would gladly use them again if needed.

As a construction company we have been working alongside Hoko and have found the team to be really focused on serving the residential market in a professional and efficient way. Collaborating with Hoko and their customers creates real value and saves alot of time and money. Great team!!

Hoko was a godsent for us after several failed attempts with local architects. They instantly understood our requirements and came up with an inspired design that we love. We went through many iterations of the concept design and Hoko didn't charge anything extra nor did they apply extra charges for our project to grow from a modest extension to a self contained annexe. Communication throughout the Concept phase was excellent and without delay. We recommend Hoko unreservedly.

These guys were great, efficient and got the job done, even when it got a bit "sticky".

Architect assigned to me was helpful and I like the overall concept of Hoko. Hoko might need to work on overcoming / mitigating the remote aspect of the concept so as to make things more personal. To be fair this may be less about Hoko and more about the nature of remote working but it's something they probably want to look at going forward. I have been very disappointed by Hoko removing some free services that were promised when I signed up and now asking for additional money for them. if you're not doing something with too much creativity needed, give Hoko a go.

When you think of building design, you do not often think that someone will be willing to provide architectual drawings at a fixed fee irrespective of how many revisions you ask for. However, that is exactly what Glenn at HOKO Design promised and delivered! He was always available and came to our home 3 times during the process of working up designs and taking us through the planning application process. We were very impressed and would highly recommend Glenn and HOKO Design to you!
