I am so disappointed with how I’ve been…

I am so disappointed with how I’ve been treated by Higlanders after purchasing my Land Rover Discovery Sport. Within two weeks of having it my brakes went on the motorway, this was due to the flexi pipe of the breaks not being in their rightful place. Thankfully no one was hurt as this could have been very different. After having the flexi pipe fixed I was told that the engine and timing chain did not sound right. I took it to a specialist Land Rover garage who identified numerous of problems with the car, that should have and would have been picked up on the inspection before selling it to me.
I have since rejected the car, where I have been told I need to bring the car back to them. I’m unable to drive it as the engine light has now come on with three faults being identified on top of all the other faults. They are now ignoring my emails.
They did not sell me a car that was fit for purpose and their after care has been awful.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. However, we would like to clarify that your comments do not accurately reflect the full context of events.

You initially reported a loose brake pipe several weeks after taking delivery of the vehicle. Due to the distance between us, we promptly recommended that the issue be addressed locally and immediately covered the cost of the repair for your convenience.

Almost a month later, you contacted us again regarding an engine light related to low AdBlue levels as you advised us. As you may now be aware, AdBlue is a consumable item that requires regular top-ups by the vehicle owner, much like fuel and is not considered a fault affecting the overall quality of the vehicle sold to you.

Regardless, we advised you to follow our standard returns process, which was fully explained and acknowledged at the point of handover. Unfortunately, you have not yet complied with this process, which has delayed our ability to progress your complaint.

We are always committed to supporting our customers with any genuine concerns, regardless of the issue or cost but it is important that both parties work together in good faith.

We remain happy to assist and resolve matters amicably.

Very very helpful staff

Very very helpful staff. OJ was brilliant and transparent throughout. Didn’t feel like typical car sales. Really happy with them and would definitely use again.

Much like another review for the same vehicle posted here, I too found issues. I was incredibly enthusiastic to see that the vehicle had a clean, recent MOT, however upon inspection of the vehicle I quickly noticed that the tread of the tyres was very low. I queried this at the time and was told it would be looked into. I also noted that the front brake discs were looking worn. I was concerned that they weren't highlighted as advisories but was told the MOT was completed by an impartial service.

After a test drive, I preceded to sign a deposit of £1000 to hold the vehicle while I arranged funds. During this time, I then found that the MOT the previous year had advisories relating to the front brakes and rear tyres and I was never shown any paperwork to suggest these had been resolved.

I contacted them at the next available moment (first thing, next business day) to say I'd like my deposit back. I thought that being relatively fast in this regard would allow us to come to an arrangement where the deposit could be returned, while the vehicle still remained on the market so there was no monetary loss from their perspective. Highlanders don't view it this way. As soon as the deposit is made, they believe that money is theirs and having what I view as genuine reservations and trying to back out as quickly as possible will not see this returned. This is highly predatory, anti-customer behaviour that seriously brings into light how they operate. You MUST do your due diligence with them, as issues after this point will not be considered.

Anyone considering buying with them should be highly sceptical. And I seriously doubt their "third party" MOT service claims.

IN RESPONSE TO HIGHLANDERS:
While I agree with their statements around my initial impressions of the vehicle (the body work was immaculate), I think it somewhat misses the point.

My main gripes are with their predatory deposit taking practices, their anti-customer views on refunding it and what I believe to be the disingenuous nature of their "third party" MOTs.

Further, they say they removed the vehicle from the market, but this is just not true, the adverts were never taken down. Additionally, I messaged them the next day when they were closed and phoned first thing when they reopened to tell them of my intention to withdraw my interest. So, it's impossible for there to be any loss of business. If they are willing to lie about this, what else is being covered up?

I'll reiterate, buyer BEWARE with this company.

The vehicle passed a valid MOT carried out by a third-party, independent testing centre, as is standard procedure for all our vehicles. You mentioned concern about one tyre’s tread during your inspection, and we promptly agreed to re-check all four tyres. Following this, we confirmed that all tyres were within the legal limit. At no point during your visit, including after your extended test drive, did you raise any concerns about the condition of the brake discs.

We were therefore disappointed to read your review, as it does not reflect the events accurately. Our team ensured you had every opportunity to thoroughly inspect the car, review all available documentation—including MOT history, service history, and logbook—and ask questions, all of which we answered in full. You even remarked positively on the vehicle’s clean condition before choosing to place a deposit.

As explained at the time, placing a deposit secures the vehicle by removing it from the market, potentially resulting in the loss of other interested buyers. Our non-refundable deposit policy was made clear to you before the payment was taken.

We understand that after reading another customer’s review that was amicably resolved, you had second thoughts. However, no fault or misrepresentation was found in your case, and the MOT and vehicle condition remained valid and transparent.

We do not pressure anyone into a sale. Our goal is to offer a professional and respectful service to every customer, and your positive feedback during the process reflected that. We regret you now feel differently, but we stand by the fairness of how your enquiry was handled.
