Never has yarn buying been so STRESSFUL
I ordered from Herrschners because they had a specific discontinued yarn that I needed to finish a project. As it had limited availability, I was advised that I wouldn’t receive the yarn until it came back in stock, which was fine as I’m in no rush.
They finally got it in stock months later and charged me/shipped the yarn.
I have NO IDEA how, but instead of shipping to my address that I had given (SAME MAILING AND BILLING), they shipped my package to a RANDOM ADDRESS IN PHILADELPHIA.
I had to pay a friend who lives in Philly to travel to the location, show the security guard screenshots of my receipts and shipping info, then have them RE-SHIP the yarn to Virginia.
This yarn has now taken months and a ridiculous amount of money and I STILL don’t even have it.
Then? Their customer service hours to call are during my work hours, so I can only communicate via email during the day and they “don’t use email as a main source of communication”. WTF? It’s 2026! Answer your F-ING EMAILS.
Never again will I order from them.

Mother called back, she told her she's responsible for returning the item and then they would "consider" a return on something they fraudulently charged on an elderly woman's credit card and was RUDE! Disgusting service.
Bad customer service
When u received my order of 4 skeins of Red Heart Itty Bitty Stripes yarn in the color Unicorn Mane it did not look like the correct yarn. I called customer service and they were not helpful. I sent photos and called again but the person who took my complaint was not there. U have been a good customer of Herschners for many years but I will not be ordering from them again.
Do not waste your time or money
Do not waste your time or money. I never received my package--after $18 in a shipping charge--and when trying to call them about it, it seemed the mailing address was off. Instead of trying to fix the issue and work with a first-time customer, they told me what I already knew: it was "returned to sender." I am still being charged for S&H because "it did get shipped out," and then was told there might be a "restocking fee" as it was a "big order." Ironically, after the useless company support, they said I could shop for the St. Patrick's Day sale and try to recoup my supplies. In the middle of this, when shocked by the prospective restocking fee, they said that they're not sure I know this, but they're a "small company." Then do better.

Thanks for sending me something I never ordered and I returned it at my expense. Then you continue to bill me for the item and are now threatening to turn me over to a national collection agency? Thanks for nothing after being a customer for over thirty years. Don't want to be on your customer mailing list anymore. Remove me.
Customer service downgrade
I have been a customer of Herrschners for decades, but recently I have been having issues with my orders. This time they said they had a shipping deal for $4.95 on orders over $35.
Mine was well over that! I went to checkout and backed out three times looking for a place to enter the code. I decided maybe I needed to go one screen further so I clicked on Continue. Not Pay Now but Continue! That's when it thanked me for my order. I searched each page looking for a place to enter the code and never found one.
I went to my orders, and there was no chance to cancel the order or anything. It went right to "Processing Order" even though it is Saturday evening and no one is there.
It says if I want to cancel or change my order I need to call customer service, which is closed until Monday morning, within 8 hours.
I clicked on the email link for customer service, and wrote them an email about not being able to enter the code anywhere, and asking them to fix it.
I got an automatic reply:
"To assist our customers more efficiently, we are no longer using email as a standard form of communication."
I suppose this is meant to make sense in our current state of alternate reality, but to me it just says "We don't want to hear from you until you are really good and steamed up, after waiting two days until you can call and talk to someone."
I am not going to spend anymore time on it, for my own peace of mind, but they have lost a good customer, and hundreds in sales to another yarn seller. I hope they feel that was worth the extra $15 worth of shipping they got.
Well first of all
Well first of all, when calling the store, all they have is AI sales pitches. If they have a valid phone number it is apparantly a secret. Second of all, they say "free shipping" using order code CHIRP26 which is invalid. Then in the cart, it says shipping is "$0" (order was for $65 of yarn) and then when you go to pay, 16.95 "magically" appears as a surpise charge. I AM DONE WITH THIS COMPANY.

I've shopped for yarn at Herrschners for many years,one thing, I would like them to do, employ the tab at the beginning of the yarn ball,fantastic idea. I like bernat super saver, not many knots, very good working. I especially, like worsted eight yarn,lots of colors,made it fun.
Shortchanged on refund
I placed an order for $60 something dollars worth of products. It was not shipped properly and the USPS ended up sending it back to Herrschners. It took weeks for my refund to come thru and then it was only $30 something dollars. It has been no help calling. I will not be buying from Herrschners again.

I have been buying from Herrschners for years and now that my beloved Joann's is gone, will probably buy more from them. Recently, a frame kit did not fit together properly; I reported it with photos and, within ten days, received a replacement. This has always been my experience with Herrschners, quite unlike that other company in Oklahoma which refused to make any kinds of amends for the faulty cross stitch kit. Wish I could show you a photo of the finished project!
Bad customer service
I bought a gift card and wanted to change the order an electronic gift card instead of a physical one. I tried to get in touch with them through phone and their chat on their website. They never answered a call or a text. Their customer service is horrible. You can't talk to anyone! I don't know about their yarn, but if you need any questions answered about your purchase, or need to speak to someone, forget about. They ghost you. Bad, frustrating expereince.
I love this store
A great variety of crafting items. Arrive well packaged, as described. Ships fairly fast, arrives in good condition. Yarns can be backordered & sometimes take quite a while to be sent... months even. Enjoy the shipping sales which makes a big difference to me in when I can buy from them.
Would recommend. Have shopped & will continue to shop with them.

I got literal junk mail in the package itself! The labeling for crochet hooks is also very confusing. I order a Prym hooks labeled as "G-6" so I assumed it was a 6mm, but it was a 4mm.

Have left 2 voice mails and sent one email to customer service about issues with directions for an afghan. That department doesn't know the meaning of the word "service." This is not my first go around with this company. The time before this I was told they had reviewed a pattern 3 times and would not do any more reviews, I was on my own and had to sink or swim. They may have reviewed it, but they didn't correct it.
I used to place orders with Herrschners frequently but now I'm finished. If they can't help customers with merchandise they sell they won't be getting my $$$$$.
Stay far away from this company
Stay far away from this company, the returns department is horrible, they sent an item we did not order it was returned back to them, we keep getting billed for this item we have called them several times they tell us it takes months to process returns and to ignore the billings now they claim they are going to turn us over to collections if we don't pay the bill.
How Much For Shipping???
The shipping charges are ridiculous! $13.99 from Wisconsin to SC for a small package?? Everywhere else offers free shipping. Now, I am getting bombarded by daily emails to order even more! Never again will I order from this company unless they get with the times and offer free shipping like everyone else does.
Good price, yarn quality - mediocre
My order of the Holly Jolly Granny Afghan came fairly quickly...it was slightly delayed but also was right after the holidays. The pattern is well written and easy to follow...printed up in a typical pattern style with a colored picture of completed afghan on front. The kit came in a zippered plastic carry bag which is really nice to have to keep the project organized. I was surprised at the cost of the whole kit, around $40 plus shipping and tax. I don't think I could purchase that much yarn for that price. However, the quality of the yarn is slightly less than yarn I've gotten at other hobby or yarn companies and I saw it is made in China; many of the other yarns I buy are made in Turkey. I'm not sure if that is a factor but it isn't a big deal. I was happy to make the afghan - it was more because I was curious of the unusual pattern; it's kind of an optical illusion when completed. Now I have a pattern I can make again if I so choose. I asked about just getting the pattern and they responded instantly. (Only comes in kit)
I will not shop at Herrschners again..ever
I ordered a latch hook wall hanging kit. The whole thing came to over 100.00 with the shipping. It isn’t particularly good quality. Apparently they do not print the design on the canvas anymore. If I had wanted counted cross stitch project I have plenty of that at home. You get a couple of copies of the “design” that you have to sit down and color so your eyesight doesn’t fail looking at a black graph full of tiny squares with symbols for each color. The yarn is very thin and it looks like you would need more than one strand to fill a hole in the canvas. I can just see the yarn running short and then what??? So I wasn’t pleased with it and decided to return it.
The return lady was not at all helpful. Spoke to me as though she had no time to deal with customers. She said shipping it back was up to me (duh) and I could decide whether I wanted to send it back or not. I paid 18.95 to them to get it to me. I found out I would be paying 37.94 to send it back. I was told I wasn’t promised return of the first shipping fee and I wouldn’t be reimbursed for the second. When I asked how long before I saw my refund she said probably a month maybe more.
So I guess I am keeping it. I have 60 days to get it back to them for a “full refund” whatever that is to them. Live and learn. Herrschners is not the company it used to be. Buyer beware.
No effort to assist
The phone agent was not helpful. She abruptly ended the call. I expressed concern about package being stolen. I wanted to have it delivered to a business. She said it couldn't be done. I asked if they would use the parcel lockers. Couldn't answer. Told me I signed out as a guest. I logged in to my account. I thought I was dealing with ARC employees. I don't want to remain a customer. Quality of service has been going downhill.
My order was over $35. Update - Still owed money
My order was over $35, so I could receive free shipping. They only sent two items. Claimed the third item was not available. This put the order under $35, so they charged $12.95 to ship. They did not contact me about the change or to ask if I still wanted the order. Customer service would not refund the shipping charge.
OCT 26 UPDATE. Orig order was 3 items total $42.35. They refunded 12.95 shipping, however, they never adjusted/refunded original order to reflect that they did not send $16.97 3rd item. I am still owed $16.97 (not counting tax adjusments which I am willing to ignore at this point if they would refund the $16.97)
