My father had a heart attack at fifty eight and I turned fifty six in March. I hadn't had a real lipid panel since my thirties, and if I'm honest that was on purpose. Easier not to know. Ordered the Advanced panel at $199 mostly because it includes ApoB and Lp(a), and Lp(a) was the one I actually wanted, because it's largely genetic and my doctor had never once brought it up. Kit came fast. Collected on a Saturday morning, dropped it in the mail Monday, had results the following Tuesday. About a week, which is what they say. My ApoB came back higher than I wanted and my Lp(a) is elevated. That is not good news. But I walked into my doctor's office two weeks later with a printout instead of a vague worry, and we did something about it in that same visit. I'd have paid three times this to skip the four years of not looking.
